Mr. Buster is a brand new dog! He was a perfect gentleman for his very first groom at almost 10 years old 🤗 He will now be on a regular schedule so next month we will even out his haircut. Also his Dad will continue to come in and learn more about coat care 😁 What a beautiful beginning to a whole new chapter for these guys ☺️

Science Saturday!

A little PSA as I keep seeing these recommended on social media by influencers and in groups.

Do you have a furminator?

Throw it in the bin.🗑 🚮

"But I get so much hair out with it"

A furminator is a blade. I've attached a photo of a super short grooming blade next to the furminator blade to compare. The only reason you think it works so well and you get so much hair out is because it's actually cutting your dogs coat. It cuts the good hair, the top coat and leaves long lasting damage, you may not notice at first or ever but its definitely doing the damage and your pups coat will begin to get shorter and shorter, becoming more sparse.

I've not once, nor will I ever use a furminator on a clients dog and 100% do not recommend them. They belong in the bin.

Ms. Luna is very much a mommy's girl and was very distraught after her mom left. Luna and I spent about an hour exercising some basic obedience skills along with boundary setting to curb her frantically trying to two and scratch her way out the door. All of which provided Luna with leadership, structure, bonding with me and a confidence boost. Making her appointment a big success and a positive experience.

This is Mr Bruno's second session. He is a year and a half old sheepadoodle with reactivity history. Due to this he's severely matted. His first session when Mom left he tried to Lunge and bite me twice which he was corrected for. After that it took him an hour to warm up and acknowledge my existence. Then we spent at least a half an hour to 45 minutes of getting to know each other. Proceeded by some basic obedience, bathtub training and reintroduction to Clippers with treat Association. I was only able to shave around his neck and from behind his ears before he had his fill of the day. I still need to edit and upload those clips. So he's back again to see how much we can get off of him today. He will not look pretty when he's done but he will definitely be more comfortable with a much better foundation for grooming. Training first, pretty cuts later!

Morning! Mr. Storm is getting his pre bath blow out 😁

What a blessing and such a privilege to be able to get Mr. Milo on his road to more comfort. He's the absolute sweetest and extremely well behaved! Mr. Milo spent the whole day with me today, was my only baby and was able to take as many breaks and potty walks as he needed. Plus all the scritches just for him. No sharing 😁 Most of the fur on his body did blow out. His butt fluff, chest and neck where his collar sits got doused with cornstarch and worked through after some length trimming and shaving out the big spots. Shaved two big mats out from behind his ears and shaved his whole undercarriage. Unfortunately we had to go all the way to the skin to get underneath it and he could only tolerate it for about 10 seconds each time. However this guy stayed a snuggle bug even the couple times he started getting frustrated.... which meant another break! At only a year and a half old this guy has a lifetime of grooming that will need to be done. I refuse to make it a bad experience for them. Yes he will probably go home looking like he got run over by a lawn mower and I'm perfectly okay with that to keep stress levels low. Yes it's always nice to get a pretty cut as we are artists in this industry, however it is never at the expense of the dogs comfort. Our motto is training or comfort first, pretty cuts later. Mr. Luke had to potty! Unfortunately now I can't get him back in the tub. Since he is old, has big grooming related bite history and mobility limitations he is going to be rescheduled so that he can be groomed outside on the platform. Then he can take all the potty breaks he needs. Here it is strictly about comfort and progress-based. Luke has not tried to me since the beginning of his very first appointment. There's no sense in going backwards, forcing him to be uncomfortable when we can just simply reschedule and work around HIS needs 💜
