Trying to teach your dog to stay but she won’t stop following you? Here’s an easy tip!
Get a ten foot leash or string and put around a stable object. Hook your dog up and grab the other end of the leash. Back up after saying “Stay”. Only repeat if the dog attempts to follow. Remember as always to use your body language and energy to keep the dogs attention. Back up and increasing distance and the dog can not follow. Then drop the leash and say “come”! Immediately reward. 3/4 times and most dogs will understand. Then practice a few times a week. Take it outside and use a tree or post and do same with distractions! Remember if we do t practice making our dog listen when he or she is distracted, they’re not really trained!!

Trouble trying to display the dog version of no look, no talk, no touch! Duncan refused to be ignored! Sometimes I wish Troub wasn’t so tolerant, she has incredible patience.
Excessive Jumping upon Arrival
HOW CAN I STOP MY DOG FROM JUMPING WHEN I COME HOME?
One of my favorite mantras is “control the energy, control the dog”! When coming home your dogs are very excited to see you. You don’t want to come home adding a bunch of energy by greeting them with excitement. We need to ignore our dogs in order to control the jumping and craziness when we get home. So if your dog is showing an over zealous amount of jumping and crazy energy, that’s an unwanted behavior. What do we do whenever our dogs show any unwanted behavior? Disengage! No look, no talk, no touch! This doesn’t mean no correct, we can still use a noise to communicate our displeasure or one word corrections, “No. Off. Stop”. Also, try to keep moving forward when your dog is jumping. Standing still or backing up will just keep the dog engaged. Walk by, no big deal. Don’t yell or get emotional, ignore and move forward. Sometimes it might take more than just body language and energy to control the dogs jumping. In those cases I use a distraction technique like and air can to get the dongs mind out of the crazy and issue a stern correction! If we come home and boisterously say “hi I’m home, who’s a good doggie etc”, we are just adding energy and that will lead to excessive jumping! We control our dogs behavior with our behavior. Always be aware of how what your doing affects what your dog is doing. It’s not about what we say, but what we do! The more our dogs aren’t listening, the less we should be talking and the more we should be doing!

Watching football just waiting for Monday Night Football and the Eagles game. More exciting sporting event going on next to me on the chair! George and Num Num are besties.
If you listen with the volume you’ll see Georgy., and hear my rescue Shar Pei I adopted around four years ago when he was two. He is literally THE WORST dog on a leash I’ve ever seen, and I’ve worked with thousands. However, loose in the back yard if he goes too far on either side of the property lines, he is super obedient. Every dog is unique and needs customized training for that dog and that owner. That’s why I always do in home training. To see the energy of the home and how everyone interacts. Then I can customize a training curriculum that considers the needs of the individual dog and hooman! Call today 941-662-9955 to start!
