The boys were so sad to see their birds head to a new home this morning, but we are so thankful to know that they are in good hands with Deere Run Ag.
*For those that don't know, we will be moving in January for work, and we will only be allowed to take 4 hens and the rabbits with us. It will be a big change for us all.

Winter animal round up and release!

Reorganizing happening in the animal houses before winter hits. Keep your eyes open for available rabbits, ducks, and chickens.
My little apple helper... Daddy and the boys collected 5 bushels of apples - lots of apple sauce, butter and pie filling.
Pumpkin harvest day! The kids are quite proud of the giant pumpkins.
Around here late summer means mushroom hikes. The kids were thrilled to find a giant chanterelle hiding place this year. A bushel, cleaned, split, dried in the sun for a couple of days, and stored in 2 half gallon jars so we have mushrooms all winter.
Did you know that mushrooms are a great source of vitamin D, and that the level of vitamin D increases when dried in the sun? Perfect for adding to so many things through the gray Pennsylvania winter.

16 Muscovy fluffies up for discussion. The males were both lilac pied and the other contributing egg layer not pictured is black pied.
We have Muscovy babies. The ducks belong to the 5 year old, and he is over the top excited. This is the first clutch we have let them hatch in the two years that we have had them, so it's a big day here at Sparrow's Rest Rabbitry & Roost.
Lynx and Lilac Otter Rex (not mini). Full pedigree but not strong for showing (all have small/tight shoulders). All handled by kids regularly and would make nice pets or starter meat. PM for details.
Sparrow’s Rest Rabbitry and Roost Customer Policy
You must be 18 or older to purchase animals or eggs from Sparrow’s Rest. If you are under 18, please have a parent or legal guardian contact Sparrow’s Rest for animal or egg purchase.
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to hold any animal or eggs. Any cancellations by the buyer will result in forfeit of deposit. If Sparrow’s Rest has to cancel for any reason, the deposit will be refunded in full at the time of cancelation.
Animal(s) must be picked up within 1 week of the deposit being made. After 1 week there will be a holding fee of $5/day/animal. If pick-up is scheduled within the one week holding period, but is then canceled by the buyer, the $5/day/animal holding fee applies starting the day of the missed meeting. Pick-up will only be rescheduled once before the deposit is forfeited and the animal(s) is no longer on hold.
Eggs must be picked up within 3 days of deposit being made. Eggs will not be held longer than 3 days, and the deposit will be forfeited if they are not picked up.
Sparrow’s Rest is not responsible for the hatch rate of eggs.
For biosecurity reasons, we ask that pick-up be made off site at a location agreeable for both parties.
All sales are final. However, if you are unable to keep your purchased animal(s) and the animal(s) is in good health, Sparrow’s Rest will take the animal(s) back no questions asked. No refund will be given.
Payment will be accepted through Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, or in cash - no checks. If you want to use the goods and services option on any of the above payment forms, the fees will be added to your final payment.
Sparrow’s Rest does not keep a wait list, but does regularly post what animals and eggs are available on their page. It is the responsibility of the interested party to keep track of what is available.

The beginning of the week brought baby bunnies. The end of the week, baby chicks. Black Copper Marans chicks from extra dark egg laying lines. Looking forward to being able to offer some of these guys next season.
Our last litter came early this morning. Kesie (paired with Peregrine) decided that she didn't want them in the nesting box which I'm not too pleased with, but it looks like there are 7 in her litter with a range of "gray" colors from light to black.
Litter #2 has some brokens in it. Wren (paired with Pigeon) had 6 or 7 this afternoon too. One more to go.
Our first litter due today is here! Dove (who is paired with Pigeon) had her first litter this afternoon. I think there are 9 or 10 in there, but I didn't want to mess too much. Our biggest litter ever for this first time mama.
