As we gather with loved ones, enjoy the long weekend, and celebrate the unofficial start of summer, let's take a moment to remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

On this Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women who have given their lives in service to our country. We remember the sacrifices they made, the families they left behind, and the freedoms they fought to protect.

From the Revolutionary War to the present day, our nation has been blessed with heroes who have put their lives on the line to defend our way of life. They may be gone, but their legacy lives on in the freedoms we enjoy today.

Let us take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day. It's not just a day off work or a chance to barbecue with friends. It's a day to honor those who have given their last full measure of devotion to our country.

As we enjoy the freedom and privileges that we have today, let us remember those who have paid the price for our freedom. Let us strive to make them proud by living up to the values of courage, sacrifice, and service that they embodied.

Rest in peace, heroes. May your memory never fade.

Meet Charlie

Charlie is our 5 year old Catahoula who has assumed the role of “auntie” to every litter we bring into the world.

Most of your breeders will keep puppies with mom until they start eating solid food. Then it’s 4-5 weeks of puppy on puppy behavior. Biting, scratching, rough playing. All things puppies love to do. However there is no “authority” figure to the litter. It’s just a free for all. We hear all the time “I don’t want to get a puppy because we have an older dog at home and don’t want them upset”. Which is very true, this will happen.

Well that is where Charlie comes in, she sleeps, plays and stays with puppies while they are away from mom. She teaches them manners, how you can’t chew on another dog or tear on them. She isn’t unfair or mean but she is assertive. She is a critical component to our program and helps us bring you the best pup possible!

Just another reason to do your research on your breeder. 🐩 🩵

Bath day for the crew 🩵

It’s so important to find a poodle/doodle breeder that gives their litter multiple baths, uses the blow dryer and the clippers at a young age because this will set you up for success since this breed needs endless haircuts throughout their life!

A bath on the day of pick up is not enough

Coconut 🥥

This little guy came out just fine like the others however very shortly we realized he wasn’t nursing properly, wouldn’t latch well or fall off and then give up… and in a litter of 10 you just can’t afford to be a “lazy sucker” as we call them!

Coconut was bottle fed around the clock for the first 3-4 weeks of his life. Now eating solid food with the rest of of the crew and going to the vet this week to ensure he is as healthy as we think he is!

It’s safe to say he’s loves his people

The puppies upgraded to a bigger pen with a potty area. We do this with all our litters at 4-5 weeks and it helps the puppies learn to “go away” to do their business.

The next stage is to put their potty station outside the doggy door or out of their pen completely at 7-8 weeks!

Our pups will be 5 weeks Monday and we can’t believe it 🩵🥹

They are eating their mash like champs, 90% of the time they go potty where they are supposed to and the play fights are in full force!

We still have a few available looking for homes, they are ready to go April 29th after their vet visit!

🩵 ENS Training 🩵

What is it?

Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) exercises, which are conducted once daily from the third to the 16th days, a period believed to be a time of rapid neurological growth and development. Even though puppies are very immature during this time frame, they are sensitive and respond to ENS.

Why is ENS important?

Five benefits have been observed in canines that were exposed to ENS, including improved cardio vascular performance (heart rate); stronger heart beats; stronger adrenal glands; more tolerance to stress; and greater resistance to disease.

In tests of learning, ENS stimulated pups were more active and exploratory than their non- stimulated littermates, according to Breeding Better Dogs.

Everytime we have a litter of puppies in the house our existing dogs tend to lose their manners in the midst of all the excitement.

Today we are doing a crash course in our house manners 🩵

From left to right is:
Charlie- our catahoula
Schnitzel- our AKC miniature intense red poodle and also a future momma
Thelma- our AKC standard poodle who has had two litters with us. She is scheduled for one more litter and then will be fixed and retire in our home

The purchase of a well bred purebred did not sentence another dog to death.
The purchase of a well bred purebred did not cause an increase in the number of dogs in shelter.
Someone wanting a dog with a predictable temperament from healthy lineage did not cause another dog to not get adopted.
Someone's meticulous research and support of only the most responsible of breeders is not the problem. It is not what you should be mad at. It is not what you should be pushing the blame onto.
I am not the one who brought these dogs into the world irresponsibly and left them in a shelter. Responsible breeders are not the ones who put dogs into shelters either.
It is my home, my life, and my choice of what kind of dog to bring into it. Maybe I needed a working dog, a sport dog, or simply a companion puppy to raise of a breed I enjoy. No matter the reason, the choice to support a reputable breeder did not send a shelter dog to its death.
A breeder who health tests, temperament tests, studies pedigrees, proves a dog worthy of being bred, and only breeds when doing so is of benefit to the breed is not contributing to the number of homeless dogs.
The number of homeless dogs in the world is a problem, but it is not a problem exacerbated by reputable breeders and those who purchase from them.
Your neighbor down the street who refuses to contain his unaltered dogs IS contributing to the problem.
Your friend who impulse bought a dog at Pet Land IS contributing to the problem.
That guy on Craigslist pumping out the trendiest designer mix as fast as he can IS contributing to the problem.
Your relative who just HAS to let their dog have one litter “so she can experience motherhood” or because “she’s just so sweet” IS contributing to the problem.
Your old high school classmate who bought a high energy working breed without taking the time to research its needs and realize it was not a good fit for their household ahead of time IS contributing to the problem.
A reputable breeder offers their lifelong support. A reputable breeder would never allow their dogs to end up in a shelter to begin with. A reputable breeder makes it a contractual obligation to return dogs they have produced back to them should you find yourself unable of keeping it.
It is understandable to be angry about the number of homeless dogs in the world, but if you take a deeper look, you will find your anger is misplaced.
If you take a deeper look, you will find reputable breeders and those of us who purchase from them are just as angry, we are just pointing fingers at the right causes.
