Pet Nanny Hello Pet Owners! www.petnannyphx.com

Hi neighbors! I'm Mikell, founder of Pet Nanny. I keep your pets happy while you're away from home!
(1)

I offer reliable, trustworthy, and loving pet care to my neighbors in North Central Phoenix and surrounding areas. I've had a passion for pets for as long as I can remember. My journey began with a persistent plea to my parents for a dog, which finally paid off in 7th grade with Lucy, a beautiful one-year-old black lab who became my best friend until she passed away in December 2023. During high s

chool, I found fulfillment volunteering with the Arizona Humane Society, helping pets find their forever homes. I started my first paid gigs pet sitting for family friends and neighbors, discovering my deep enjoyment for caring for animals. After exploring various career paths, I've come full circle to realize that pet sitting is not just a job but my true calling. I look forward to sharing my love and dedication with your furry family members!

Dog treats are more than just tasty rewards—they play a role in training, bonding, and even health maintenance. Here’s a look at the science behind them:

1. Flavor and Smell: Dogs have an incredible sense of smell, so treats are typically made with strong, appealing scents, often from meats or animal-based ingredients. The flavors are designed to be more intense than typical dog food to make them enticing and reinforcing.
2. Palatability and Texture: Dogs have a unique taste profile that tends to favor umami (meaty/savory) flavors and fat. Texture is also important; for instance, crunchy treats can satisfy a dog’s instinct to chew, while soft treats are easier to digest and better for training.
3. Nutritional Content: Treats aren’t a meal replacement, but they still need to be balanced. Many contain additional vitamins or minerals, like omega-3s for a healthy coat or glucosamine for joint health, which can provide benefits for aging dogs.
4. Ingredient Selection: High-quality treats are often made without fillers, artificial preservatives, or high amounts of sugar, which can lead to obesity. Some treats use hypoallergenic ingredients for dogs with food sensitivities.
5. Training and Behavioral Science: Dog treats are a key part of positive reinforcement training, which relies on rewards to encourage desired behavior. Over time, dogs form associations between a treat and a specific behavior, making it an effective training method.
6. Mental Stimulation: Treats can be part of mentally stimulating activities. Puzzle toys or treat-dispensing toys keep dogs engaged and help relieve boredom, which can reduce undesirable behaviors like chewing.

In short, the science behind dog treats is focused on creating rewards that are both nutritionally sound and behaviorally effective, supporting a dog’s physical and mental well-being.

Fall in Arizona brings the perfect weather for pet-friendly activities! Here are some great ways to enjoy the season with your furry friends, both outdoors and at home.

1. Desert Hiking and Scenic Walks with Dogs

• Why: The cooler weather is ideal for dog-friendly hikes and nature walks in Arizona’s scenic spots.
• Where: Try trails in places like the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, Usery Mountain Regional Park, or the Phoenix Mountains Preserve. These trails are generally dog-friendly, but be sure to check rules on leashes and bring water!
• Tip: Dress your dog in a lightweight coat if it’s chilly, and pack a doggy water bowl for hydration.

2. Outdoor Pet-Friendly Markets and Holiday Events

• Why: Arizona often has open-air farmers’ markets and seasonal events where pets are welcome. It’s a great way to socialize and enjoy the festive spirit together.
• What to Bring: A leash, some treats, and maybe a blanket for your pup to rest on if you decide to sit and people-watch together.

3. Pet Portrait Day with Holiday Backdrops

• Why: It’s the perfect season to get cozy photos of your pets. Set up a holiday-themed corner at home with blankets, lights, and maybe a little pet-sized Santa hat or reindeer antlers.
• For Cats and Dogs: Cats might need extra treats to stay in place, while dogs may love the attention and have fun posing.

4. Backyard or Patio Playtime with New Winter Toys

• Why: Cooler temperatures make it more enjoyable for energetic play outside.
• Toy Ideas: Look for sturdy toys like rope balls or toys that can withstand cooler weather. Dogs love fetch, and cats can enjoy wand toys or small balls to bat around if they’re comfortable outside on a leash or in a safe space.

5. Snuggle Time with Cozy Beds or Heated Blankets

• Why: Arizona winters can still get chilly, especially at night, so set up a warm corner for your pet indoors.
• For Cats and Dogs: Try a heated pet blanket or self-warming pet bed. For cats especially, place it in a sunlit area where they can soak up extra warmth.

6. Puzzle Games and Indoor Training Exercises

• Why: Mental stimulation is just as important as physical exercise, especially if you’re indoors more during winter.
• Ideas for Dogs: Use puzzle feeders, treat-dispensing toys, or simple tricks like “find the treat” under cups to keep them engaged.
• Ideas for Cats: Interactive toys like laser pointers, treat mazes, or cardboard boxes for hide-and-seek make for great entertainment.

7. Pet-Friendly Movie Marathon

• Why A cozy night with your pets and a holiday movie is the ultimate bonding experience.
• What to Do: Set up a soft, blanket-filled area on the couch or floor and enjoy the snuggles. Treats for both you and your pets make it extra fun!

Enjoy the season together and stay cozy!

Hey everyone! 💕 I wanted to share a little bit about why I started Pet Nanny and what it means to me.

Growing up, I always dreamed of having a house full of dogs. If I could, I’d have a Great Dane—yes, even though they’re way bigger than me!—because they’re such gentle giants. I’d also have a Black Lab because that’s what my sweet Lucy-lu was, and I miss her every day. There’s something so comforting and loyal about Labs. And of course, I’d love a Dachshund, simply because they’re the cutest little ‘hotdog dogs’ (that name always makes me laugh!). Lastly, I’d have a Beagle for their sharp minds and lovable personalities.

Since I can’t have my own pack right now, being a pet nanny lets me experience the joy of every breed, each with its own personality and quirks. I get to make your fur babies happy, comfortable, and feel right at home while you’re away. It’s like having my own extended furry family. 🐾💙

Thank you for trusting me with your pets and letting me live out my love for animals in the best way possible. 🥰
