The summer heat is taking a toll. The girls have hardly laid any eggs this past week. It is always stressful making sure they all stay cool enough. Did you know that the average body temperature of a chicken at rest is between 106 to 108 degrees naturally?!?! What are you doing to combat heat exhaustion and heat stroke for your chickens????
We do lots of frozen watermelon and spray all the pens down with water a couple times a day. The watermelon I cut up and just put in a large casserole dish in the freezer so it's ready to go. I also keep ice trays readily available. In the late afternoon I will use the ice around the edges of the water to keep the water that's readily available to drink as cold as possible.
