This Activist Appreciation Month, we honor Seuk Kim, a tremendous hero who followed his dream of becoming a pilot and aided hundreds of animals in need of rescue. Kim volunteered with Pilots N Paws, which works with a network of pilots and organizations to move dogs and cats at high risk of being killed to safety.

He tragically died in a plane crash while transporting three dogs from Maryland to New York this past November; two of them survived and are getting a second chance because of him and the remains of the third are with his family.

His legacy of kindness will be remembered by all he touched, and especially by the pilots he inspired to use their skills to help animals and those who are continuing this work as “Seuk’s Army.”

Seuk’s Army is going to start highlighting our wonderful volunteers each month! This month the spotlight goes to Maria Aldarondo!

Maria is one of our Culpeper Pup Ambassadors and temporary foster. She has a heart for the German Shepherds and helps us with all of our hard cases. Her patience and knowledge has done wonders for so many dogs that needed a boost in their confidence, especially a young German Shepherd named Sonny.

Sonny was surrendered to a tiny animal control in Heard County, GA. He was completely shutdown when Seuk flew him up to VA in November 2024. Maria jumped right in with positivity and determination and she made huge improvements for Sonny in the 2-3 months she temp fostered him. By the end of his stay with her he was confident enough to visit Lowe’s, Home Depot, PetSmart and even the groomer. He has since gone up to SNARR Northeast and is doing well in his new home!

Thank you Maria! You are very much appreciated and so important to our mission!

Some things are just meant to be.

The week Seuk Kim was tragically killed, his family also lost their beloved kitten to a genetic disease. Months later, Anna Kang Seuk’s amazing wife, mentioned they’d love to adopt a female Siamese kitten if one ever came into rescue—an incredibly rare find.

But sometimes, the universe has a plan.

A little Siamese kitten showed up on a stranger’s doorstep, and Leah Orr, who runs Best Friends Humane Society in Worth Countythe same rescue that Lisa, Whisky, and Pluto, came from
and where Seuk's passengers on the night of the fateful accident. When no owners came forward, Leah knew exactly where she belonged.

Abbie, as she was named, had a rough start and needed a hospital stay, but thanks to the generosity of Seuk's Army charity she got top-notch care. Then, a canceled flight delayed her journey, giving her extra time with Stephens and Sydney Galley.

Today, Abbie finally made it home—to the Kim family, where she was always meant to be.

Rescue works in mysterious ways, and we know Seuk would be smiling at this one. ❤️ 'sarmy
