Raccoons are here!
๐ฆ These young raccoons have started to trickle into our clinic, mostly for a completely preventable reason. Many arrive because their mothers have been trapped and relocated, leaving the babies alone for days before they are found. By the time they come into our care, their mothers are long gone.
If you have concerns about a raccoon, we can provide humane solutions to encourage momma raccoon to move on with her young. This keeps families together and saves you the cost of traps or services. Call the Wildlife Helpline at 412-345-7300 x. 500
Please note that we are currently at capacity and unable to intake any more raccoons at the moment. These young orphans have quite some time indoors before they transition to pre-release conditioning cages. There, they will perfect essential skills like fishing and foraging needed for survival in the wild.
Thank you for supporting our efforts to keep wildlife families together โก๏ธ https://bit.ly/3UIHte5
Wild Side - Opossum Babies!
๐คฉ Exciting news from the HARP's Wild Side! ๐ฟ Opossum babies are arriving daily, each with their own unique story of survival. This group was discovered alongside their deceased mother on the side of the road. These resilient little ones were fortunate enough to be rescued by compassionate members of the public who knew to check for a pouch! Now, under our care, these precious babies are getting a second chance at life.
๐ For the next two and a half months, they will be nurtured and cared for by our dedicated staff before they are ready to be released back into the wild where they belong.
โฃ๏ธ Your support makes success stories like hers possible. Consider donating today to help us continue providing care and rehabilitation for wildlife in need. โก๏ธ https://bit.ly/3UIHte5

Canada Goose Returns Home
This mature Canada Goose was rescued from Highland Park Fishing Pond with twine tightly wound around its left ankle. Fortunately, the patient retained sensation in its leg and suffered no fractures. Although the right leg also sustained constriction injuries, the entangling garbage was removed prior to the patient's arrival at the clinic. The adult Goose has made a triumphant recovery and was joyfully released back into its natural habitat on March 18th, 2024, rejoining its flock once more!
This patient case serves as a poignant reminder of our interconnectedness with all life on this planet, underscoring the importance of responsible waste management for maintaining a thriving ecosystem.
If you're interested in contributing to the rehabilitation of more wildlife in need, consider joining us for our upcoming Wildlife Baby Shower in April. Your support can make a world of difference for these vulnerable creatures!

It's Baby Season!
As we head into baby season, keep in mind mommas are on the move!
โจ Raccoon moms are up all hours of the day and night to keep up with her young.
โจ Cottontail mothers monitor their nests from a safe distance for their baby's protection, visiting only about twice a day to feed.
โจ And while Virginia Opossum mothers try their best, sometimes a joey falls off and gets left behind.
So, if you have any questions about wildlife as we start to see more and more activity, just give our Wildlife Hotline a ring at (412)-345-7300 x 500!

22 Cats from Cambria County Now in HARPโs Care
On Monday, March 11, two Central Pennsylvania humane societies (The Humane Society of Cambria County and The Central PA Humane Society) rescued nearly 60 cats from a hoarding situation. The animals were believed to be abandoned and found in extreme conditions, several with matted or missing fur and caked in urine and feces. All were in need of veterinary care.
Given the large intake of cats, officials with the Animal Protective Services of The Humane Society of Cambria County, reached out to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh for assistance and support. HARP Humane Officers responded to the request and traveled to the Cambia County Humane Society on March 13.
Of the cats removed, 22 of the surrendered cats were transported to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburghโs two domestic shelters. Eleven cats were taken to the East Side shelter and 11 others to the North Side shelter. Upon their arrival at HARP, the cats were evaluated by the medical and animal care teams.
Currently, the cats are receiving continued medical examinations and care and overall are in fair condition. Many have dental disease that may require extractions and a number have severe skin conditions including urine scalds that will require their fur to be shaved. HARP staff will also be working with several of the animals to help them decompress and adjust to human interaction.

30 Dogs in HARPs Care
30 dogs were surrendered to HARP after a search warrant was executed on an Armstrong County property last week. In total, over 70 animals were found on the property, living in extremely unsanitary conditions. The 30 dogs were brought to HARP's shelters to receive care.
Like many animal shelters, HARP saw an increase in animal intakes in 2023, and resources are stretched thin; your support will give these dogs the care they need and love they deserve. โก๏ธ https://givebutter.com/30dogs
