🐾 POEM OF A DOG
I'm the one who's always waiting for you.
Your car has a special sound that I have imprinted on my senses, I can recognize it in a thousand.
Your steps have a magic bell.
Your voice is music to my ears.
If I see your joy, it makes me happy!.
Your scent is the best.
Your presence moves my senses.
Your waking up wakes me up
I contemplate you sleeping and for me you are my God, I am happy watching your sleep.
Your look is a ray of light.
Your hands upon me, hold the lightness of peace and the sublime display of infinite love.
When you leave, I feel a huge void in my heart.
I keep waiting for you again and again.
I am the one who will wait for you all your life today, tomorrow and forever:
I am your dog.

⚠️INTERSTATE 95 AREA OF NC⚠️
$5000 REWARD— SUSPECT IN A CARJACKING DUMPED THE VICTIMS BELOVED 10 YEAR OLD DOG, “LUCKY”

SUSPECT CLAIMS he dumped lucky at a Rest Area on Interstate 95 at either the 99 Mile Marker or 48 Mile Marker or possibly the 5 Mile Marker in NORTH CAROLINA

Lucky belongs to an 87 year old veteran who is undergoing radiation treatment and had gotten the dog from his son who died in 2020 from a medical condition. Lucky is his best friend.

Lucky was taken when the 87 year old went to Tractor Supply in Mt Pleasant PA and when he exited the vehicle KENNETH CRIDER from MD approached the vehicle and forcibly took the keys and took off with the vehicle with Lucky inside. CRIDER went to Myrtle Beach SC in the stolen vehicle and then was arrested on his way back North when he led deputies on a chase in NC on Interstate 95 from the 141 mile marker to the 180 mile marker when he crashed.

When he was apprehended the dog was not in the vehicle.

When questioned, he advised deputies that he dropped Lucky off at a Rest Area on Interstate 95 on his way back up into NC. He thinks it was the Rest Area at the 99 mile marker or the 48 mile marker. But could possibly be the 5 mile marker.

Family and Friends are offering a reward of $5000 for the safe return of Lucky.

Lucky had a black collar on with a flea collar that was zip tied to it. (Could have been removed) He is chipped.

Keep your eyes open and pass along.

Everyone who is thinking of getting dogs should read this because you need to understand this reality:

***I am a 21st century dog.***
-I'm a Malinois.
Overskilled among dogs, I excel in all disciplines and I'm always ready to work: I NEED to work.
But nowadays I get asked to chill on the couch all day everyday.

-I am an Akita Inu.
My ancestors were selected for fighting bears.
Today I get asked to be tolerant and I get scolded for my reactivity when another approaches me.

-I am a Beagle.
When I chase my prey, I raise my voice so the hunters could follow.
Today they put an electric collar on me to shut up, and you make me come back to you - no running - with a snap of your fingers.

-I am a Yorkshire Terrier.
I was a terrifying rat hunter in English mines.
Today they think I can't use my legs and they always hold me in their arms.

-I'm a Labrador Retriever.
My vision of happiness is a dive into a pond to bring back the duck he shot to my master.
Today you forget I'm a walking, running, swimming dog; as a result I'm fat, made to stay indoors, and to babysit.

-I am a Jack Russell.
I can take on a fox, a mean badger, and a rat bigger than me in his den.
Today I get scolded for my character and high energy, and forced to turn into a quiet living room dog.

-I am a Siberian Husky.
Experienced the great, wide open spaces of Northern Europe, where I could drag sleds for long distances at impressive speeds.
Today I only have the walls of the house or small garden as a horizon, and the holes I dig in the ground just to release energy and frustration, trying to stay sane.

-I am a border collie
I was made to work hours a day in partnershipwith my master, and I am an unmistakable artist of working with the herd.
Today they are mad at me because, for lack of sheep, I try to check bikes, cars, children in the house and everything in motion.

I am ...
I am a 21st century dog.
I'm pretty, I'm alert, I'm obedient, I stay in a bag...but I'm also an individual who, from centuries of training, needs to express my instincts, and I am *not* suited for the sedentary life you'd want me to lead.
Spending eight hours a day alone in the house or in the garden - with no work and no one to play or run with, seeing you for a short time in the evening when you get home, and only getting a small toilet walk will make me deeply unhappy.
I'll express it by barking all day, turning your yard into a minefield, doing my needs indoors, being unmanageable the rare times I'll find myself outside, and sometimes spending my days sunk, sad, lonely, and depressed, on my pillow.
You may think that I should be happy to be able to enjoy all this comfort while you go to work, but actually I’ll be exhausted and frustrated, because this is absolutely NOT what I'm meant to do, or what I need to be doing.
If you love me, if you've always dreamed of me, if my beautiful blue eyes or my athletic look make you want me, but you can't give me a real dog's life, a life that's really worth living according to my breed, and if you can't offer me the job that my genes are asking, DO NOT buy or adopt me!
If you like the way I look but aren't willing to accept my temperament, gifts, and traits derived from long genetic selection, and you think you can change them with only your good will, then DO NOT BUY OR ADOPT ME.
I’m a dog from the 21st century, yes, but deep inside me, the one who fought, the one who hunted, the one who pulled sleds, the one who guided and protected a herd still lives within.
So think **very** carefully before you choose your dog. And think about getting two, rather than one, so I won't be so very lonely waiting for you all day. Eight or ten hours is just a workday to you, but it's an eternity for me to be alone.

All of Them.
by L'aura Marie

It was September in Kanab, Utah I decided to return to New Mexico and shift gears towards the animals. All of them.

I took a place in Ojo Caliente near the mineral springs. I took Rhody, my faithful Ridgeback companion, and set sail for yet another time in New Mexico. There were so many over the years. This one would be a little different. The focus was nature, Rhody, and the animals.

By the time we arrived, we were greeted by five loose dogs in the neighborhood which is more like western Kenya I've been told. Everything is free, wild, and dangerous. None of the dogs were wearing collars, let alone looked well nourished. But they were happy, and curious about who I was and why Rhody smelled so good.

I started feeding them, of course, I did. They were soon part of our morning walk which actually felt safer to me having them there than without. As I said.. free, wild, and dangerous.

" To travel is to take a journey into the self "
- Danny Kaye

By the second month, Rhody declared it was time for him to cross over - and so there we were. All of us. The pack of five and then some... the neighboring horses, a few felines, and three human soulmates to help me bury his body and pray over him.

Rhody is my soulmate and those of us who have dogs know what this means. You have that one that just 'got ya' and you 'got them' and though at times they pulled every stretched fiber of patience across your tightly knitted fascial suit, you still loved them and protected them. You are bonded.

Rhody passed in late November, and I traveled back to one of my homes. I went all the way to Pennsylvania to grieve, to work, to see my mother, to eat almond croissants, and to be. I ate so many croissants I started emulating the color and texture of marzipan.

It was time to get back to what I set sail for in New Mexico, the animals. All of them.

While I was in Pennsylvania, I was hired to care for a property in Taos, NM. I accepted with the intention that I would gratefully receive what was placed in front of me - animal-wise. That I would table moving my canine therapy work and Rolfing and just BE with what came.

What presented out of the gate as I landed back in New Mexico were two cows at the door of the property and about six feral cats. As if they knew... cats just have a way of knowing what's about to happen as though they themselves willed it to be.

Little buggers.

And so there I was. All of them. All the cats and cows and no dogs. What?! Good lord what is going on. I know nothing about cats or cows.

So I look into the community to see about feral catch and release programs. I try to catch a few. I fail. I fail and fail and fail again. Meanwhile, my social life is also significantly paused. It is the deadest of dead of winter in Taos, New Mexico which means DARK, COLD, and unless you ski... you will be very alone. Alternatively, you will get very creative and write or drink yourself into a tizzy. I do the opposite and care for what is presented to me. Cats and cows. All of them.

I eventually captured one cat and took her in to be spayed. After the debacle of releasing her, she actually fled back inside the house instead of outside while nearly catching herself on fire by getting a wee too close to the stove. Cats.

I pause. Recenter. Laugh. Cry.
And move back towards mission 'All of Them.'

Thank you for reading.

The upcoming visual journal I am still organizing and will release in a few hours time. It is a visual memoir of each and every animal since the winter of 2023 while on this journey towards nature and animals.

I do hope you enjoy it.

With love and so much happiness and gratitude for the Animals,
L'aura Marie

N and Fritz.

Today I met with N and her dog Fritz. N is traveling all over the US while Fritz lives out his life. Fritz is 21. They had it good in North Carolina when her home sold and now she is moving around the US seeing friends and exploring unvisited areas. She will soon be overseas but while Fritz is here... so is she.

Dedicated canine person here.

N reached out to me as Fritz is having stress and anxiety. They are now in a small, dusty area in New Mexico where the altitude is kicking their buts as well as the sun. I walked her through some basic CST techniques to calm Fritz and it took hold immediately. What I noticed more than anything was how the dog was responding to her overall. Every time N went into something sad or hard, Fritz displayed discomfort.

This can sometimes be hard as dog companions. To see when our stress is affecting our beloveds' state of well-being. Dogs are notably sensitive, honest, and don't lie - why many humans are drawn to them. And they pick up on every little nuance.

Our session toady was brief. We will do more in the coming days but for now, both N and Fritz are on board with developing newer patters to ease stress as they move forward through the remainder of his life. And getting a good night's rest.

Today's session was over Zoom where most of my one-to-one out-of-state sessions take place.

A tragic story of this sweet angel being attacked in the shelter providing space for her. I suspect it's a story that is all too common that goes unreported. FORTUNATELY he is getting care and will recover from this! You can still contribute..

We want to share an update with you on Elso and address some of the comments we saw on his initial post last night. Elso is in a critical care hospital, being closely monitored. He is on IV antibiotics and fluids, and the doctor cleans and debrides his wounds every 4 hours. Despite his severe injuries, Elso has been an excellent patient thus far; he is sweet and gentle and allows the staff to manage his care without any trouble. Thankfully, the X-rays show no trauma to his trachea and no fractures. To everyone who donated towards Elso's care, thank you. Because of you, he is on his way to recovering from this nightmare.

We understand the outrage that Elso's images and videos have sparked in our community. We understand the desire to "fix things" or hold someone or something accountable. However, we do not condemn the dog that did this. We do not condemn them to capital punishment. We do not wish for them to be euthanized, and we are saddened by how many comments demanded that call to action.

Please, try to imagine how traumatizing it is to live in an overcrowded shelter. These dogs are in a strange, cold environment, surrounded by dogs and people they don't know. Most have just been abandoned or were found wandering the streets. They're cooped up, frustrated, scared, and waiting for their turn to see some sunlight.

This is not a shelter problem. This is a direct result of overpopulation. This is a societal problem. This is what happens when legislation prohibits a massive community of dogs from entering housing. This is what happens when animal abuse goes unpunished. This is what happens when backyard breeders and puppy mills get more support than rescues. This is what happens when people feel more comfortable with dropping their dogs off at a shelter than working with a trainer. We know that life happens, but this throw-away society we live in starts to take a toll.

As far as the question of how two dogs are able to reach each other through neighboring kennels: shelters are underfunded and overcrowded. They are constantly running out of room. Either they make room where they can or they are forced to decide between life and death. Human error can play a part. Animal stress can play a part. We do not know. All we know is that Elso needs help, and we are going to help him.

We encourage everyone to move away from pointing fingers and to become a part of the solution by donating, fostering, and adopting from their local shelter or rescue.

RE::: NEW MEXICO FIRE EVACUATIONS

🔥 Resources for evacuees with pets and for those wishing to help displaced pets: we will continue to update this post as we know more. 🔥

The City of Santa Rosa, NM is welcoming evacuees to the Blue Hole Convention Center with crates available for pets.

Bernalillo County Animal Care and Resource Center has been deployed to the Glorieta Conference Center exit 299 address 11 NM-50 to set up a 911 animal evacuation center. Pets are not allowed in rooms so families are sheltering pets outside their doors; a large tent is housing displaced dogs who don’t have shelter and pet food and supplies are being distributed to those who need it.

The Downs at Santa Fe (former racetrack) on the frontage road is welcoming evacuees - campers and their pets!

The SF County Extension Office next to the Rodeo grounds has set up a temporary shelter in the small animal building for Animal Welfare Coalition of Northeastern New Mexico’s evacuated dogs. They need help with walking dogs, cleaning, and laundry. On-site coordinators are organizing volunteer shifts and there is more space available for displaced pets and livestock (large and small).

From Felines & Friends New Mexico: Cat owners in areas under fire evacuation orders: Santa Fe Cats has space available for caring for your cat(s) while you are evacuees. For those without insurance reimbursement for pet boarding, a donation is appreciated. No cat will be turned away for lack of insurance or inability to donate. Call SFC at 505-216-5141 to make arrangements.

Poeh Marketplace next to the Poeh Cultural Center in Pojoaque is accepting donations of dog and cat food to distribute to evacuee locations.

Evacuation centers are located in Peñasco and Angel Fire, pet status is unclear; Taos Rodeo/fairgrounds sheltering displaced livestock.

Pecos Rodeo Grounds have space and feed for livestock.

URGENT CARE NEEDED.

URGENT CARE NEEDED.

🆘911 URGENT HELP NEEDED- DOG MAULED IN SHELTER.

No shelter personnel would ever want to wake up to the sight of one of their dogs in this condition.
When the staff arrived in the morning, they found Elso in his kennel clinging to life and covered in blood. In the middle of the night, a nearby dog broke out of his kennel and broke into Elso’s, and mauled him.He is left in critical condition with severe, life-threatening injuries. His neck has been ripped open near his jugular vein, his body is covered in deep bite wounds, and part of his ear has been ripped off. He has lost a tremendous amount of blood.

Elso literally brought the entire shelter to their knees, and it is understandable why. This poor boy has been a resident at the shelter for weeks. He is a sweet and gentle boy who has been patiently waiting for his forever home; now, Elso waits for his life to be saved. The shelter staff tried their hardest to stabilize him but it became more clear as they examined him that they do not have the resources to save him. They reached out to us and there was no way we could walk away. We immediately agreed to help.

We apologize for the footage, but obviously, we are posting this so you can see the severity and reality of the matter. We are a medical rescue, and he needs the funds for his critical care. We wasted no time and pulled Elso from the shelter. He has been rushed to a 24-hour critical care hospital for treatment. We cannot predict the outcome, but we will fight our hardest to save his life. His story cannot end this way. Please consider donating towards Elso's care today. We are his only hope.

to Nuala, for all of us.

When our consciousness expands to a breadth where there is very little of us and almost all of it is concern for our fellow beings, then we can approach what can be called “universal consciousness.

This organization was established six months to the day after Nuala, love of my life pictured above, passed away from cancer. This outreach is my way for me to give back what she gave me - Love. Compassion. Understanding. Time. Possibility and Trust.

There are SO many animals to help - they need our help, our voice and are time.

Several legs of MovingSophia are non-profit, while others such as the dog walking and bodywork and trauma therapy have fees. All of these services contribute 24% of proceeds to the cause. My aim is to educate that we are not separate, and that we need to start understanding how to live in harmony. A good dog, needs good training. If a dog comes from stress and abuse, so shall it continue. I am here to help shift this thru working with the dogs one on one.
