🎉🐾 Meet Hector, the courageous 5-year-old Lhasa Apso whose journey has been an inspiration to us all! From facing challenges to achieving triumphant moments, Hector's story stands as a testament to the power of unwavering determination and compassionate care.
Last Christmas, a sudden yelp marked a turning point in Hector's mobility: he had suffered a herniated disc in his spine. His people acted swiftly, and he underwent hemilaminectomy surgery to repair the damage. Once a spirited walker, covering distances of up to 3 miles with ease, Hector suddenly grappled with newfound endurance struggles. Through it all, his spirit burned brighter than ever.
After a setback this spring, Hector embarked on a path to recovery with Steel City K9. Tailored physiotherapy exercises and dedicated care formed the core of his healing process.
Today, Hector's progress continues to amaze us. His steps are steadier, his zest for life undiminished. His courageous nature radiates as he perseveres!
Hector's journey is a living testament that triumph over challenges is achievable. It's a story that underscores the significance of support and the dedication to surmount obstacles. To all those whose four-legged companions are walking a similar path, remember that we stand beside you, offering unwavering support and steadfast guidance.
In honoring Hector's recovery, we celebrate the indomitable spirit that resides within each of us. Here's to Hector, a true embodiment of strength and perseverance! 🌟🐾
At Steel City K9 Rehab, we believe in earning our canine patients' trust, one step at a time. Zina arrived last year as a fearful rescue, but with unwavering dedication, patience, and a pocket full of treats, we worked together with her mom to help her overcome her fears.
This clip shows the very beginning of Zina's journey with us. We took all the time she needed to desensitize her to the noise of the underwater treadmill, offering her reassurance and positive reinforcement every step of the way. It wasn't always easy, but seeing her progress was incredibly rewarding.
Fast forward to today, and Zina has transformed into an Underwater Treadmill Superstar! 🌟 She confidently steps onto the treadmill, embracing the therapeutic benefits it provides. We couldn't be prouder of her incredible transformation and the trust she has placed in us.
Zina's story is a testament to the power of patience, love, and perseverance. Every dog deserves a chance to thrive, and at Steel City K9 Rehab, we're here to provide the support they need.
Join us in celebrating Zina's triumph and inspiring other dogs to overcome their fears. Together, we can make a difference, one wagging tail at a time! 🐶💙

Spinal Injuries 101
We got a great response from our post yesterday about preventing ACL injuries in dogs and today we're back to share more tips to keep your furry friend safe and healthy! 🐾🥰
Many of our patients come to us for recovery after spinal cord injuries. It's important to ACT FAST if you notice any symptoms like paralysis, difficulty standing or walking, or loss of bladder or bowel control. Don't wait – get your pup to the vet right away!
So what can you do to PREVENT trauma-related spinal injuries?
• Avoid letting your pup jump on and off high surfaces.
• Use a harness instead of a collar when walking or exercising.
• Provide a cozy and supportive bed for your furry friend.
• Make sure your pup gets regular exercise.
• Schedule regular check-ups with your vet.
And remember: certain breeds like Dachshunds, Beagles, and Corgis are more prone to spinal cord injuries, as are older or overweight dogs.
While many spinal cord injuries are caused by accidents or trauma and can be prevented, others are caused by degenerative diseases that can't be prevented.
Degenerative diseases such as degenerative myelopathy (DM) or intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) can affect dogs, particularly as they age. These diseases cause the spinal cord to deteriorate over time, leading to symptoms such as difficulty standing, walking, or jumping, and loss of bladder or bowel control.
Unfortunately, these degenerative diseases cannot be prevented, BUT...early detection and treatment can help manage the symptoms and slow the progression of the disease. Regular check-ups with your vet can help identify any potential issues before they become more severe.
If you notice any changes in your dog's behavior or mobility, don't hesitate to contact your vet. Early intervention can make a BIG difference in the quality of life for dogs with degenerative diseases, letting you spend more years with them.
Your dog is counting on you to keep them healthy and happy. By taking steps to prevent s
