Essence of Love Animal Rescue Inc. Specializing in bulldogs and other brachycephalic(short nose) breeds as well as bully breed types. We That, we believe, is the Essence of Love!

A Pittsburgh, Pa 501c3 foster home based animal rescue founded by a local vet tech! We specialize in all bulldogs, bully breeds and brachy breeds! At Essence of Love, we're focused on ethical, responsible rescue. That means thorough assessments- we want no surprises for our adopters and safety for our foster homes. With certified behavior and medical professionals, we strive to take in and place d

ogs that are behaviorally safe and sound and medically manageable. We support our foster homes fully in this endeavor, easing their way through their foster journey at each turn by providing behavior and medical support, free training classes, and more. Rescue is a tough world, and many of our animals have been through a lot, but our focus on humane force-free training and quality veterinary care helps our dogs be as ready as possible to start fresh. EOL would like to make an official statement on our position on training techniques. We strongly believe in FORCE FREE training methods. FORCE FREE methods use positive reinforcement to motivate your dog and build a trusting and long lasting bond. However, if you disagree with FORCE FREE training techniques we would love to educate you and give you more information on it, and will do so in a respectful manner. You can also tune into Victoria Stilwell on Animal Planet! Here are a few things we DO NOT agree with when training your dog:
-Alpha Rolls
-Scruffing your dog
-Screaming at or intimidating your dog
-Hitting your dog in any way
-Prong collars to prevent pulling
-Electric fences
-Shock collars to curb inappropriate behavior
-Citronella spray collars

Here are a few things we love and support:
-Clicker training
-Taking your dog to classes to learn and to build a relationship!(Ask for trainer recommendations!)
-Physical fences(we understand not everyone can afford this)
-Using training treats to motivate your dog and build a loving relationship
-Rewarding good behavior instead of focusing on the inappropriate one
-All of Dr. Ian Dunbar, Trish Mcmillan CABC, Dr. Sophia Yin, Patricia McConnell PH.D. and Victoria Stilwell's approaches
