Homeless Cat Management Team

Homeless Cat Management Team The Homeless Cat Management Team works to humanely reduce the population growth of homeless cats thro We do not provide relocation or adoption services.

Our program focuses on Community Cat, (otherwise commonly known as feral and stray) Colonies, and friendly kitties rescued from these colonies to be placed into loving homes. Responsible "Outside" cats caretakers must provide food, water, shelter and veterinary care when necessary, to the felines they feed. We do not operate an animal shelter. Our high volume spay/neuter clinics include the follow

ing:
Spay/neuter surgery for cats and kittens (This includes a preventative antibiotic, anesthetic and IV pain medication). Rabies vaccination for all cats over three months of age. This service is included in the Feral Cat Package. Rescue cats will incur an additional $8.00 charge for this service to defray our cost. Frontline treatment for fleas, grooming to remove fleas, ticks, ear mites, matted fur, etc. Mandatory left ear-tipping for spayed/neutered feral cats being re-released, for ease of recognition

Wonderful news from Animal Friends 👏🏻

Our sister organization Pittsburgh CAT is proud to help FeLV+ cats find forever homes. FeLV, otherwise known as feline leukemia, is a virus that impairs the cat's immune system and can shorten their lives. During the early stages of infection, cats often exhibit no symptoms and no signs of disease at all. Over time, however, the cat's health may deteriorate. We do not recommend that FeLV+ kitties live with FeLV- kitties. Cats infected with FeLV can live for years in relative good health, but their health should be vigorously monitored. These cats will best thrive in a loving, low-key home where they are fed a high-quality diet and checked regularly by a veterinarian supportive of maintaining and treating an FeLV+ cat. Controlling secondary infections and treating other illnesses as they arise is key, so these cats require a committed and loving adopter. In return, they will give much love and joy, and many snuggles and purrs!

Today is Feline Leukemia Awareness Day! There could not be a better day for us to announce our new Admissions Policy for kitties who are Feline Leukemia positive!

A few months ago, our Medical team updated their policies surrounding testing cats for Feline AIDS (FIV) and Leukemia (FeLV) in order to keep up with the most recent data known about these feline retroviruses. We have discontinued our testing practices and updated medical protocols for those cats with FIV or FeLV. With these new procedures, the Admissions Department has been able to relax restrictions for cats who have tested positive for FeLV, now being able to accept a small number of cats with this diagnosis as long as they are stable and relatively healthy. If you would like to surrender a cat who has been diagnosed with FeLV and is not currently showing any major signs of illness, please reach out to our Admissions department at [email protected] or by phone at 412-847-7078. Please know that we are only able to accept a small number of FeLV cats at this time, so there may be a significant wait before we are able to admit.

To celebrate, we are going to throw ourselves a fundraiser party!

Time: 2-7PM

Where: Sip Taproom, 3394 Saxonburg Blvd Suite 530, Glenshaw, PA 15116

We will be accepting donations of food, litter, and other cat items at the event.

Yesterday was our first clinic of July and it went off with a bang 🎇 Check out this cutie who won't be contributing to the overpopulation of community cats!

With one more clinic toward the end of the month, how many cats do you think we'll spay/neuter in July? Closest (or exact) guess will receive a HCMT sticker at the end of the month 🤩

Inky & Marvin are two cats we rescued from a local hoarding situation. Our friends at Nose 2 Tail Cat Rescue generously helped by taking them under their wing! They have been looking for a forever home for a few months now. Please share to help get them into a home by the end of summer!

Marvin and Inky have been patiently waiting for their purrfect family to come along!

They are brothers who balance each other so well that we can’t bring ourselves to break them apart. Inky is the cuddly of the two, but he is also an instigator. Marvin is a quiet, gentle giant. They can be a little shy at first, but come around quickly!

They would be best in a home without other cats as they tend to be a little rough and territorial with other cats.

If you are seriously interested in adopting, please visit our website to apply to be considered as an adopter! Not all applications will be approved.

All of our cats and kittens are FULLY vetted which means they are spayed/neutered, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, combo tested, dewormed, flea treated, and microchipped.

We know everyone is overwhelmed with kittens, but we need your help!

We were contacted today by a young lady that is in dire need of help. Her mom recently went into the hospital and when she visited her home, she found 15 unaltered cats and a litter of kittens.

We are not in the position to take the cats in at this time - but we are trying to help with getting them fixed asap so we don’t have a kitten explosion!

It will cost approximately $50 per cat to get them fixed and vaccinated. Can you help? No amount is too small! Venmo or PayPal [email protected]

In the notes put “15 cats”.

Great reminder for these hot days ahead!

Great reminder for these hot days ahead!

This week we have a heat advisory with unusually high temperatures. Extreme heat can significantly impact wildlife, leading to dehydration, exhaustion, and even death. Wildlife may struggle to find enough water and suitable shelter to protect themselves from the heat.

But you can help! Place shallow water containers around your yard, ensuring they are clean and water is changed daily. Put sticks or stones in those containers to provide escape routes for smaller animals that may fall in.

Make sure you provide shade and shelter for any outdoor cats, and that you keep your own pets inside where it's cooler. If you spot distressed animals (lethargic, panting), gently mist them or place a nearby sprinkler to help cool them down.

Pittsburgh CAT and Homeless Cat Management Team hope that you and yours are safe this week during these extreme temperatures.

Kitten season is here and like everyone else, Pittsburgh CAT is overwhelmed! If you're able, check out the wishlist to help. We could really use wet and dry kitten food 🐾🩷

We have many young families in our care and need supplies! We particularly need kitten food (canned & dry) and and other kitten supplies. If you're willing to send our fosters a donation, you can order off our Amazon wishlist (look for "Cindy Wymer's Gift Registry Address" when you check out):
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3L4LJSRCZYN2N

Or you can donate a Chewy egift card:
https://www.chewy.com/chewy-egift-card/dp/226306

Thank you! MEOW!

P.S. Our young kittens will not be adoptable until July, when they're 3 months old and can be neutered and get their rabies vaccination. If you're interested in adopting a kitten this summer, you can fill out an application in late June to be pre-approved. Approved applications are good for any cat in our care for 90 days!

Note that we do currently have older kittens in our care that need homes, and some of them have been waiting for months, as they grow up in foster homes. Please consider giving them a chance! You can find more info here:
