The Lights of Remembrance Ceremony was established to celebrate pets, both living and deceased, who have made a profound impact on our lives. Though some are no longer here by our side, the light they have brought to our hearts will never be dimmed. Let us honor their memory by continuing to care for the furry friends who need us the most. Our supporters, volunteers, and adopters come from different walks of life but are all united by one common bond - their love of animals. When we come together as a community there is no limit to what we can accomplish. This year we decided to take a different approach to this ceremony by recording a video in place of hosting a live public event. We wanted to incorporate some of our incredible residents so that all of you can see firsthand the lives that you have helped us save. It is our hope that you feel more connected to the animals you graciously support. Thank you all for being a part of our mission and loving our animals as much as we do! *please note, we will be contacting our three 50/50 raffle winners this week* #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop
Silly me, I always thought Quincy was a dog until I finally realized he’s actually a little swamp goblin. He will splash his way straight into any body of water, no matter how murky that water may be. Rest assured, he will be sure to shake his mud and rub against your leg to get you nice and soggy too. From Marsh Man to Quincy Mincy, my names for him are always changing. One thing has always remained constant though and that is the love and respect I have for my porkie pie. He has been with us for nearly a year and has sadly had his heart broken three times already. Through no fault of his own he always seems to be let down but never fails to handle it with grace and dignity. We expect so much from dogs and they expect so little from us in return. Quincy is just about the happiest, gentlest hippo who wants nothing more than to please his person. He has been extremely respectful of his girlfriend Chyla and always lets her lead the way. She has yet to be convinced of this whole swimming deal though. If you are searching for a wonderful, loyal companion to complete your heart then search no further! Adopt Quincy ❤️#plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #shelterdogsofinstagram
Our team was thrilled to join the Somerset Patriots in celebrating National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day last week! Our sweet, ADOPTABLE resident Pearl made a special appearance to represent the wonderful residents here at PAHS. She had one heck of a tail wagging good time smelling all the tasty snacks and more importantly, making new friends! As you can see, Pearl loves everyone she meets and is even great with other animal pals. If you’re interested in adopting Pearl, or any other PAHS animal, please stop by our facility to speak with one of our adoption counselors. We will be happy to pair you with your newest family member! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #shelterdogsrock #somersetpatriots
My dearest Atlas. I will never forget the first time I saw you. You were covered in scars, soaked and smeared in your own feces. I knew nothing about you nor you about me but one thing was for certain: you lived a troubled life in the disgusting world of dog fighting. It was obvious to me that you walked this journey bearing the weight of the world on your shoulders and so I picked your name. Though I may never know your past, I am absolutely sure that you are destined for a brighter future. I will always remember the conversation we had when you were too sick to stand shortly after your arrival. You looked up at me with the saddest brown eyes and I promised you that no matter the outcome I would never leave your side. In return, you have shown me more love and loyalty than any human ever has. You have the kindest, most resilient spirit that the monsters in your past never understood or even deserved. With your freckled specks of hair and deep scars you are still the cutest boy to me. Never once have you made me feel bad about who I am, or better yet who I am not. I promise to look after you until you find your forever home, even if it means having to watch everything from the sidelines due to the trauma you endured. We mostly sit on the ground and watch the cars pass down the road. Some people may find it silly, but it really is the highlight of my day. Truth is, I’d rather be nowhere with you than somewhere without you. Love you forever! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #fightabusenotdogs

Join King on a day date with his kennel mom! This handsome boy is searching for an adult only household that has experience with under socialized dogs. He has made tremendous progress since his arrival and is looking to continue his adventure with a new family ❤️ #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptsontshop
Hey friends, just me again. I know my adorable face graced your page the other day but I somehow only got 8 likes on Facebook 🥺 I know, it’s heckin’ bananas! My kennel mom put together this video of our adventure today to show how sweet and wonderful I truly am. We met some birds, made new human friends, picked out my very own toy, and even stopped for a tasty treat! So many people stopped to tell me how handsome I am except for one meanie who had some not so nice things to say about me. Mom told me not to listen to the haters so we kept it moving. Stay positive and enjoy your week! 🌸 #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop
Hey friends, it’s me Sky! You’re probably wondering how a handsome fella like myself still hasn’t found his forever family. I know, it’s absolute baloney….speaking of which I could go for a tasty snack! My little brother Pickle has already been adopted but I sadly have not received a single adoption application. I’m smart, sweet, and a certified cutie. What more could you ask for? The veterinary staff could not get enough of my cheeky charisma and reported back that I was a wonderful patient. (Shhh we don’t need to tell them I was secretly a big baby!) I was brought to PAHS back in November after I was rescued from an abandoned home where I was living without food, heat or electricity for nearly a week. Luckily, I am a resilient boy who is ready for my next big adventure. My kennel mom has a feeling I am going to be a water rat this summer as I love the rain and snow. Will you be the special family to give me a second chance? Stop by the shelter and adopt me today! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #gentlegiant #brindledog
Debunking the myth. What does it mean when a dog requires a slow introduction? This can mean a variety of things based on the individual dog but it most certainly does NOT mean you are adopting an “aggressive” dog. Casper and his brother Zoro were rescued by the PAHS Animal Control Department after their former owners were threatening violence against them in their home. The marks on their body and severe mistrust in humans tell a heartbreaking story of the life they endured. Dogs, like people, have different personalities and boundaries to be respected. Just as you may not appreciate a stranger rushing up to hug you, Casper and Zoro can be very uncomfortable interacting with new faces. But as you can see, with appropriate time and trust building they are just about the snuggliest sweethearts you can imagine! If you have experience with insecure dogs and are an adult only household, please contact Allison at PAHS for more information about these brothers. Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever. #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #rescuepit
Funny, adorable and adventurous! These are just three words to describe Max’s pawsome personality. Our smiling shepherd is a sweet and spunky boy who will make a wonderful addition to an active household. From the second this pup came through our lobby, I couldn’t help but be absolutely smitten with him. His intelligence and intuition help him switch modes to reflect his favorite human’s needs. From goofy puppy to stoic guardian, Max is the embodiment of loyal companionship. He would do best in a home with children ten and older and may be willing to live with the right canine companion. It’s downright impawsible to meet this cutie and not fall in love. Try it, Max triple dog dares you! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #shepherdmix #shepherdsofinstagram

At approximately 8pm last night, an individual abandoned an emaciated senior cat on our front porch. As you can see, this cat is unaware of his surroundings and was left exposed to the elements all night. Our staff found this poor little guy on the side of our building, shivering and scared for his life. We immediately took him in and warmed him up with some food and a heating pad. He is currently sleeping peacefully in our Director's office and we will work tirelessly to ensure he gets into a forever home. If you have any information on his owner, please contact our Animal Control Department at 908-754-0300 or [email protected]
