Silly me, I always thought Quincy was a dog until I finally realized heās actually a little swamp goblin. He will splash his way straight into any body of water, no matter how murky that water may be. Rest assured, he will be sure to shake his mud and rub against your leg to get you nice and soggy too. From Marsh Man to Quincy Mincy, my names for him are always changing. One thing has always remained constant though and that is the love and respect I have for my porkie pie. He has been with us for nearly a year and has sadly had his heart broken three times already. Through no fault of his own he always seems to be let down but never fails to handle it with grace and dignity. We expect so much from dogs and they expect so little from us in return. Quincy is just about the happiest, gentlest hippo who wants nothing more than to please his person. He has been extremely respectful of his girlfriend Chyla and always lets her lead the way. She has yet to be convinced of this whole swimming deal though. If you are searching for a wonderful, loyal companion to complete your heart then search no further! Adopt Quincy ā¤ļø#plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #shelterdogsofinstagram
Our team was thrilled to join the Somerset Patriots in celebrating National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day last week! Our sweet, ADOPTABLE resident Pearl made a special appearance to represent the wonderful residents here at PAHS. She had one heck of a tail wagging good time smelling all the tasty snacks and more importantly, making new friends! As you can see, Pearl loves everyone she meets and is even great with other animal pals. If youāre interested in adopting Pearl, or any other PAHS animal, please stop by our facility to speak with one of our adoption counselors. We will be happy to pair you with your newest family member! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #shelterdogsrock #somersetpatriots
My dearest Atlas. I will never forget the first time I saw you. You were covered in scars, soaked and smeared in your own feces. I knew nothing about you nor you about me but one thing was for certain: you lived a troubled life in the disgusting world of dog fighting. It was obvious to me that you walked this journey bearing the weight of the world on your shoulders and so I picked your name. Though I may never know your past, I am absolutely sure that you are destined for a brighter future. I will always remember the conversation we had when you were too sick to stand shortly after your arrival. You looked up at me with the saddest brown eyes and I promised you that no matter the outcome I would never leave your side. In return, you have shown me more love and loyalty than any human ever has. You have the kindest, most resilient spirit that the monsters in your past never understood or even deserved. With your freckled specks of hair and deep scars you are still the cutest boy to me. Never once have you made me feel bad about who I am, or better yet who I am not. I promise to look after you until you find your forever home, even if it means having to watch everything from the sidelines due to the trauma you endured. We mostly sit on the ground and watch the cars pass down the road. Some people may find it silly, but it really is the highlight of my day. Truth is, Iād rather be nowhere with you than somewhere without you. Love you forever! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #fightabusenotdogs
Abandoned Kittens 4.24.24
Today at 5:55AM, this individual decided to abandon four grey and white kittens on our front porch. Staff brought these scared and cold kittens in, placed them on a heating pad and fed them a delicious breakfast. If you have any information on who this individual is, please contact our Animal Control Department at 908-754-0300 or [email protected]
Join King on a day date with his kennel mom! This handsome boy is searching for an adult only household that has experience with under socialized dogs. He has made tremendous progress since his arrival and is looking to continue his adventure with a new family ā¤ļø #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptsontshop
Hey friends, just me again. I know my adorable face graced your page the other day but I somehow only got 8 likes on Facebook š„ŗ I know, itās heckinā bananas! My kennel mom put together this video of our adventure today to show how sweet and wonderful I truly am. We met some birds, made new human friends, picked out my very own toy, and even stopped for a tasty treat! So many people stopped to tell me how handsome I am except for one meanie who had some not so nice things to say about me. Mom told me not to listen to the haters so we kept it moving. Stay positive and enjoy your week! šø #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop
Hey friends, itās me Sky! Youāre probably wondering how a handsome fella like myself still hasnāt found his forever family. I know, itās absolute baloneyā¦.speaking of which I could go for a tasty snack! My little brother Pickle has already been adopted but I sadly have not received a single adoption application. Iām smart, sweet, and a certified cutie. What more could you ask for? The veterinary staff could not get enough of my cheeky charisma and reported back that I was a wonderful patient. (Shhh we donāt need to tell them I was secretly a big baby!) I was brought to PAHS back in November after I was rescued from an abandoned home where I was living without food, heat or electricity for nearly a week. Luckily, I am a resilient boy who is ready for my next big adventure. My kennel mom has a feeling I am going to be a water rat this summer as I love the rain and snow. Will you be the special family to give me a second chance? Stop by the shelter and adopt me today! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #gentlegiant #brindledog
Debunking the myth. What does it mean when a dog requires a slow introduction? This can mean a variety of things based on the individual dog but it most certainly does NOT mean you are adopting an āaggressiveā dog. Casper and his brother Zoro were rescued by the PAHS Animal Control Department after their former owners were threatening violence against them in their home. The marks on their body and severe mistrust in humans tell a heartbreaking story of the life they endured. Dogs, like people, have different personalities and boundaries to be respected. Just as you may not appreciate a stranger rushing up to hug you, Casper and Zoro can be very uncomfortable interacting with new faces. But as you can see, with appropriate time and trust building they are just about the snuggliest sweethearts you can imagine! If you have experience with insecure dogs and are an adult only household, please contact Allison at PAHS for more information about these brothers. Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever. #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #rescuepit
Funny, adorable and adventurous! These are just three words to describe Maxās pawsome personality. Our smiling shepherd is a sweet and spunky boy who will make a wonderful addition to an active household. From the second this pup came through our lobby, I couldnāt help but be absolutely smitten with him. His intelligence and intuition help him switch modes to reflect his favorite humanās needs. From goofy puppy to stoic guardian, Max is the embodiment of loyal companionship. He would do best in a home with children ten and older and may be willing to live with the right canine companion. Itās downright impawsible to meet this cutie and not fall in love. Try it, Max triple dog dares you! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #shepherdmix #shepherdsofinstagram

At approximately 8pm last night, an individual abandoned an emaciated senior cat on our front porch. As you can see, this cat is unaware of his surroundings and was left exposed to the elements all night. Our staff found this poor little guy on the side of our building, shivering and scared for his life. We immediately took him in and warmed him up with some food and a heating pad. He is currently sleeping peacefully in our Director's office and we will work tirelessly to ensure he gets into a forever home. If you have any information on his owner, please contact our Animal Control Department at 908-754-0300 or [email protected]
Quincy is here to provide a very special pupdate! After months of staring at toys with disinterest, our little prince FINALLY decided the time had come. King Quincy is ready to play. This moment was not only special for him, but also for me. To watch a once terrified shelter dog finally be comfortable enough to let his guard down and be silly is a very heartwarming experience. Let his journey be a reminder that it takes time for shelter pets to come of out of their shells and show us their pawsome personalities. This cutie pie is athletic, cuddly, and oh so goofy - the total bully bundle! Despite this he somehow has not received a single adoption inquiry. He may be willing to live with the right female pooch his size or larger. Our foodie likes to enjoy his meals in peace and is well suited for a family with children twelve and older. Ready to join Quincy on the rest of his journey? Stop by our facility and adopt him today! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #staffysmile

Cea is saying see ya to 2023!
This galloping gal is hoping to ring in the new year with her very own family. Before being surrendered to PAHS, Cea lived as an outside dog whose interactions with people were quite limited. She is understandably still learning her indoor manners and would do best with adopters comfortable with her high contact play style and mouthy behavior. A master of self entertainment, Cea will run in circles for hours and keep herself busy with a good stuffie. Bonus points if it has extra squeakers! She needs to be the only pet in the home but has enough energy and personality to count for ten dogs. Letās help this sweet girl start out the new year in a loving home. Stop by the shelter and adopt Cea today! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #PAHS #adoptdontshop
As we wrap up this hectic year, we are excited to share the success of our Home for the Holidays promotion! We have shattered records with the number of dogs and cats adopted just this month alone. One of our longest residents, Lando, even found his forever family. With every dollar donated, minute volunteered, and post shared know that you are directly contributing to the success of our mission! As always, thank you to our community of supporters and a very special congratulations to our pawesome alumni and their new families. Wishing you all a wonderful life full of toys, treats, and love! ā¤ļø
Does your house feel a little too quiet?
If you answered yes, then I have just the dog for you! Kai is ready to sing his way into your heart this holiday season. He would make a wonderful addition to an active family with older children who will help teach him adult manners. Our young boy is well suited to live with another dog, preferably another Husky due to their unique interaction style. As a true Husky pup, he loves to explore the world with his mouth and can admittedly get himself into a bit of trouble thieving items that are not his. Mr. Mischief himself somehow ends up on top of tables, under chairs, and always sneaking off with the pup-peroni or a soggy old toy. He is searching for a home that will provide him with the structure and mental stimulation he needs to thrive. With that said, where are all of our husky lovers at? Stop by our facility and adopt Kai today! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #PAHS #adoptdontshop
The perfect family companion ā¤ļø
We canāt say enough wonderful things about our beautiful Zucchini. Her gentle disposition makes her an ideal candidate for households that entertain often. I can already picture her loving the attention from your family and friends at the next holiday gathering! Zucchini is an older gal who may be a bit hard of hearing, but she still has plenty of energy to run and chase her squeaky toys. She is such a sweet and gentle soul who would make a wonderful addition to a family with children. If you have a mellow dog, Zukes may also consider being roommates! Our senior residents have years of experience in giving love and being the best boys and girls. Give them the priceless gift of family this holiday season. Stop by our facility and adopt Zucchini today! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #PAHS #adoptdontshop
This holiday season weāre sharing the power of second chances ā¤ļø
Just check out Thomas strutting his stuff in his brand new winter gear. To see him not only wearing a jacket but doing so with such calm confidence is something we never couldāve imagined when he first came to us. Last October, Thomas was spotted walking down the road in Plainfield with visible ribs and protruding hip bones. He was so insecure that the world was his enemy and everything that entered his space, from leashes to hands and even toys, was perceived as a hostile threat. Taking him outside was an exhausting challenge for both him and his handlers. Fast forward a year and he absolutely loves being outside with his PAHS friends. He has grown to be quite the toy master with some pretty remarkable acrobatic skills; for a little guy he is quite the high jumper! Thomas is searching for a home with children twelve and older who will understand and respect his preferred play style. He may be willing to live with a female canine companion who is similar or larger in size. Give the gift of love this holiday season. Stop by our facility and adopt Thomas today! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #pahs #adoptdontshop #transformation #dogmodel #shelterdog
Mr. Softie ā¤ļø
Here at PAHS we know how damaging breed stereotypes can be. If youāre looking for that big ātoughā Rottieā¦..well letās just say that Franz is not your guy. Our gentle flower has made a name for himself being one of our sweetest and friendliest dogs. Franz is estimated around a year old but certainly has a ton of puppy energy left in the tank! He wants nothing more than to be a pampered prince who receives endless love and cuddles. Our squeaky toy master loves to zoom around the play yard and chase his stuffies. Based on his size and energy level Franz is searching for a home with teens and older children who wonāt tumble over during his famous games of tag. He loves to play with other dogs and has been mostly disinterested in our outdoor cat colony. If you already have a dog, please be sure to bring them by our facility to meet this little firecracker. If I could, I would adopt Mr. Mush myself! Nothing beats a warm Franz hug when youāre feeling down. Help show this loving pup the life he deserves. Stop by our facility and adopt Franz today! #plainfieldareahumanesociety #PAHS #adoptdontshop
