HALO PUPDATE: Q&A and what we found out since yesterday

09/06/2025

GREAT NEWS!!! HALO ATE!

She’s still on the mend, but eating is huge! We are putting a video together of all she went through since last night, but I figured I’d post this right now so everybody could see her perfect face with her perfect song as she does a little bit of cuddling. She still has a long way to go, but we are feeling better. Thank you to all of you who sent love, juju, prayers, support, and who called in the vet to add a little contribution towards her bills.

She’s very worth it! She matters! 🙏🏼❤️🐾

This is the big dog that I was trying to get last week when it was raining.

I sat with him long enough for him to come close to me with treats and he took one out of my hand, but more people pulled up and it spooked him. He is very scared. I

Someone contained him in the dog park and I got a call, but by the time I got there, somebody had open the gate and let him out.

I don’t have a trap that big. Please do not chase him out of this neighborhood. This is a good neighborhood to be able to trap him in. We just need the trap. I will try to reach out and see if anybody has an available trap for a very large dog for us to be able to contain him. Do not approach him in numbers🙏🏼❤️‍🩹🐾

Friends, I’m tired. I can’t tell whether I’m sad, mad, disgusted or disappointed. I’m not numb but I’m not feeling all of it anymore. I’m undecided on how to label this feeling.

Halo’s previous owner came clean about specifics of her home remedies so we could make sure to treat her correctly. A new team member has been in communication to help figure it all out. The things we learned that this dog was given in just the last 10 days has me in ruins.

Just pray. Or send good juju. Light a candle. Whatever you’ve got, we’ll take it. This is a nightmare and the word failure doesn’t cut it.

Two things: First, a healthcare professional reached out to us and told us that Kratom affects the hypothalamus, which regulates temperature in humans.
Second, do not give your dogs over-the-counter medication that you buy from the store. Do not give your dogs human pain medication. Do not give your dogs human temperature relief medication. Do not give your dogs children’s medication. Do not google things and trust what Google says. Google is not your veterinarian. It’s a wealth of knowledge collected by popular vote and pushed by money. That doesn’t always make it right. You know who is right? Those underpaid veterinarians that went to school for over a decade to make sure your dog lives. The ones who risk living with a broken heart nonstop as they face the many challenges of our animals in need. Simply put, go to the vet. Not the local drugstore.

HALO PUPDATE!

Parvo negative!!!!!!!!!🎉🎉

We are taking her home to administer IV’s tonight and give her liquid antibiotics and Neutrocal for her low blood sugar and to get some calories in her. The hope is that we can break the fever and get her on the healing side of things. If she still feverish in the morning, then we will be heading back to the vet. Thank you for all of the prayers and love and good juju you are all sending for Halo. I’m going to go live to share her story details very soon.

Here is her invoice for her care today. Thank you to those of you. Who asked for Veterinary information to call in help towards her bill. We are so thankful that Dr. Courtney was able to get her in today to help her with this so we did not have to go to a terribly expensive emergency room. Thank you, Dr. Courtney! You are amazing!🥰

HALO PUPDATE:

The main thing Dr Courtney wanted to test four was liver shunts. Her Blood tests came back with some elevations but nothing that screamed liver shunt. There is a specific test for that. Her testing for that can come at a different time because it has to be done when she’s healthier. results did show that her white blood cells are definitely fighting something big we just don’t know what. Her blood sugar was low. She took x-rays and the x-rays look pretty boring.
We are doing a parvovirus test next.

The care plan is to continue IV fluids overnight and an IV antibiotic is being given right now. We wanna try to break that fever because it keeps coming back. Fluids are bringing the fever down and then as the fluids are absorbed, the fever shoots right back up.

We will post more when we know more. We have several people asking for the veterinarians information so here it is.🙂

HALO PUPDATE

We were able to get the owner to FINALLY surrender Halo, who is a 6 month old puppy. Could not have done this without Shanna!

When we got her she was very dehydrated, breathing awkward, reported no drinking or eating for 48 hours, drooling and high fever. We gave her an IV and got her a little cooled and she got more color. Her breathing was better also.

Dr Courtney said we could bring her in an emergency visit at 2, so we are currently at Care Animal Hospital.
