As we check cows daily and anxiously await the arrival of the matings that we’ve paired for this years calf crop, one can be overwhelmed by what appears to be a mess. But by mating many well known cow families with some of the best bulls of the IRBBA and implanting some progressive embryos, the benefits of the mess will appear crystal clear really soon. Your cows called, they’re ready for electronic official ID!

The new USDA rule requires official identification ear tags to be visually and electronically readable for official use for interstate movement of certain cattle and bison. The new rule goes into effect November 5, 2024. The final rule applies to:

🐄 Sexually intact cattle and bison 18 months of age or older
🐄 All dairy cattle
🐂 Cattle and bison of any age for rodeo or recreation events
🐂 Cattle or bison of any age used for shows or exhibition
