We are still looking for the perfect home for our internet-famous "Eyeball Twins." These two baby panthers were found during TNR work being done by local volunteers. The female was in horrific condition, with two eyes that had ruptured and become infected. Her brother was a little better but both were very small and thin. Fast forward a couple of months and they are thriving in the care of our wonderful foster "Pot Roast's Mom" (IG: and TikTok ). "Microplastics" is the sister who had both eyes removed and "Doom Scroll" is her seeing-eye brother. Although nobody can tell Microplastics that she's blind (she has discovered how to get onto the counters, fireplace mantel and other places you wouldn't expect a blind cat to explore), she does need a home that is safe so she doesn't hurt herself.

Some of the things we're looking for in an adopter include:
1) Home with no stairs, or stairs that can easily be blocked off with no risk of kids leaving doors or gates open (MP did fall down the stairs at her foster home before learning where everything was. She gave her foster mom a slight heart attack but was thankfully unhurt).
2) No small children - little kids may not understand how to handle a blind kitty and they may scare MP since she can't see them coming. Children need to be old enough to understand "kitty rules" and the consequences of not following those rules (MP could get injured or even die!)
3) The twins must stay together. Although MP is confident and capable, she does often rely on her brother so they must be adopted together.
4) Other cats are okay but if you have a dog it must be SUPER laid-back and gentle with cats. There would be an introductory period, naturally, but the right type of dog might be okay.

Ideally, a home without a dog would be best just to minimize what MP needs to learn and adapt to. Bonus points to anyone who has experience with blind cats!

Hey friends and supporters! We would love to find some folks to help foster some kittens and adults who are waiting for surgery appointments, a spot at our Petsmart adoption center, or an opening at our wonderful partner, Whiskers Cat Cafe and Coffeehouse.

All supplies can be provided including kennels if needed. Fosters only have to provide daily care and cuddles. If you’ve got a spare room or bathroom or a space that can be closed off from other pets, that’s all you need!

Cats are combo tested, vaccinated and dewormed before they are sent to foster.

Having foster homes available to help with kittens is especially helpful because kittens are like kids in kindergarten - if there is a bug or virus out there they will pick it up! Keeping them at the shelter increases the risk that they will get sick and then they have to wait even longer to be adopted.

I am going out of town for a family event and it would be fantastic if you e could move some of the kittens and cats out of the shelter to simplify tasks and care for the folks helping while I’m away.

Here are some common responses (and replies!) people give when discussing fostering cats waiting for homes.

🐱 I’ll fall in love and never be able to send them back.
❤️ you may fall in love - who wouldn’t?! But that’s why we involve fosters in the adoption process - that way you feel good about your foster’s new home. Plus, if you do decide you can’t live without your foster, we do waive the adoption fee on your first foster fail 😝 And if you’re sure you cannot keep a cat but are afraid it’ll be hard to say goodbye, we can place a cat that’s already been spoken for with you.

🐱 I can’t afford to feed and buy litter for another cat.
❤️ you don’t have to worry about that since we can provide food and litter and whatever other supplies you need.

🐱 I can’t afford vet costs - what if something happens to the cat while in my care?
❤️ we cover all vet care and costs. We even send a small supply of the most commonly used supplies (dewormer, antibiotics, etc) either each cat just in case something I’d needed - this way we can provide directions on what to do if a foster cat isn’t feeling well.

🐱 I don’t have time to drive them back and forth to the vet for appts
❤️ you don’t have to! If you’d like to drop your foster off at our shelter in Belton for a vet appt, that’s fine. But we can also come to you to pick up.

🐱 my kids will be devastated when the cat has to leave
❤️ fostering is a great way to show kids how they can help more animals by caring for them while they wait to be adopted. And when they get updates about the cat in their new home, they can see the impact of their involvement. And then they can look forward to fostering another cat or kitten!

This lovely couple made an appointment to come to Petsmart in Belton to meet two other kittens but they were charmed by JoJo and Rosie’s outgoing and sweet personalities! We are so happy these two cattens have found their forever home ❤️ ❤️

We have some really great kitties at and they would love to meet you! Possum (first video) is a gorgeous girl who is refined and quiet. She would be fine as the only cat in the house but she can also live with other laid-back cats. Minnow is also a refined, quiet girl who likes to sit back and watch the world go by. She tested positive for FIV but that’s not a big deal - she can live with cats who don’t have FIV because she is peaceful and gets along well with other cats. Molly looks like she stuck her nose in black paint - she is a very sweet girl who has been getting along with the other cats and having fun playing with cat toys. Last but not least, Nori is suuuuper affectionate and loves to be with her people. She’d be a fantastic family pet because she will never tire of kids wanting to hold her and play with her.

New dates have been added to the surgery scheduler - you can schedule online at the link below! I can’t keep up with individual texts asking about availability so if you need an appt please take a peek at the scheduler to see what dates are available and then schedule right online.

We will be scheduling another owned cat clinic soon, and rolling out a program that I know will make a lot of people very happy! So stay tuned for updates and if you need appointments, please schedule them ASAP because they tend to get reserved very quickly.

When it rains it pours.

Ollie is about a year old and came to us from a home that had intact cats who had litters…who had litters, etc. We took seven cats from the home and everyone was in great health despite the overcrowding. Ollie was very scared at the vet for his neuter appt and he would literally scream if he saw a cat anywhere near his kennel. He went to a foster for a few days and we realized he’s a huge love bug. He then went to Whiskers Cat Cafe and Coffeehouse but while he was there he started acting off - we brought him back to the shelter and treated him for an upper respiratory infection and fever. He bounced back and once he was healthy he went to Petsmart adoption center. While there he started with the URI symptoms again so back he came, with another round of antibiotics. From that point on Ollie was just…off. He didn’t look like the healthy, robust catten he’d been when he came to us. He was still insanely sweet and could not get enough attention but it was clear he wasn’t feeling 100%. I pulled out the stethoscope last week to see if I could hear any abnormal lung sounds but Instead I heard a very loud murmur and a very fast heart rate. He went with me to the vet so we could pull blood and send to the lab. Results were unremarkable - slightly elevated white blood cells which tracked with his on and off symptoms and fever. Our wonderful vet was messaging me about him and she said “cats can get an infection in their heart but it’s extremely rare - only 0.006% and 0.018% get it.” He went back to see the vet this past weekend - I was hoping she’d tell me I was crazy and there was no murmur but sure enough she heard it and we measured his heart rate at 360 bpm (normal is 160-220 bpm). He also had a 104.5 fever. We gave him an nsaid and fluids and tried to get him in for a consult at Mizzou. Unable to make that happen, our vet called a clinic near her and asked if they could get him in for additional diagnostics. They graciously opened a spot for him later that afternoon and because I had to drive back to KCMO with cats who’d had surgery, our vet took him over to the clinic. He had an xray (which is amazingly well done and clear and easy to read!) and a test to see if there was a chemical present that indicates heart damage. Heart was normal size and the test was negative. He has some mild changes in his lungs but the vet wasn’t concerned. She said that all the symptoms aligned with endocarditis and recommended he go for an echocardiogram at Mizzou. I wish I had the same odds playing the lotto - 0.006% and 0.018% of cats get this!!!!

The visit to the clinic in Columbia was $200 and the consult at Mizzou will likely be quite a lot since he’ll need more diagnostics. He’s on antibiotics and nsaids now and he is acting much better. His heart rate was still elevated but not as high as 360 bpm.

I’m waiting for Mizzou to contact me about scheduling an appointment and will post updates as I get them. But if you can spare a few bucks to help us pay for this unexpected medical problem we’d very much appreciate it!

UPDATE on the AC situation

Thank you ALL so much for the generous donations. I'm never able to keep up with who sends what since it comes in through PayPal or Facebook donations so please know I appreciate each and every one of our donors. Without your support, I'd have to sit on the corner and collect change :-)

The AC is officially back in action and I no longer have to deal with a flood of water under the flooring tiles. I have to also thank one of our amazing followers (Kelly) who I won't tag just in case she wants to remain somewhat anonymous. She reached out about helping with the freon because her husband does HVAC work on the side and happened to have the right freon type available. They came the day after I posted asking for recommendations and spent four hours working on the AC system in the awful heat we've been having and they generously donated their time and supplies. The unit did indeed need a refill and now it's not only clean and serviced (thanks to Jose at A+ Heating and Cooling, who I contacted via thumbtack) but it's full of freon and cranking out the cold air!

Jose was also amazing - he is allergic to cats but still spent 3+ hours on the first visit which was scheduled super fast. Then when I realized the unit wasn't cooling, he came back out on Sunday and spent another three hours helping to thaw the ice that had built up on the outside unit (because someone set the thermostat to 50!). He was a really nice guy and I highly recommend his company should you ever need HVAC work done - the number is 913-526-2645.

I still have a hard time asking for (and accepting) help (it's in my DNA) but when I do, our supporters always step up and it warms my heart. Thank you all so much!

The AC unit at the shelter needs freon which is normally an “easy” fix but it’s an older unit that takes R22 Freon which was - in keeping with my streak of bad luck - banned in 2020. The guys working on the unit now no longer carry it, however it IS available but expensive and harder to find. If any of my local peeps know someone who works on hvac and can help find some of this freon without me having to sell a kidney to pay for it, please let me know!

It’s been a rough couple of weeks. I lost my job of ten years in July which has been very stressful since that income often helped to fund gaps in financials for the rescue and our spay and neuter program. We have had some unexpected veterinary expenses and now the AC in our shelter building is on the fritz. It was leaking water out of the condenser and that water flooded under the flooring which had to be pulled up and thrown away. I had the unit cleaned and serviced for $350 which fixed the leaking but the next day I arrived at the shelter to find the thermostat set at 50 degrees and the room temp at 84 because the ac wasn’t cooling properly. The ac guy is coming back today to look at it and I am very worried that it’s going to be an expensive fix.

The shelter building is NOT energy efficient and I pay $400-500 a month in the summer for electric bills (for a space that’s about 800 square feet). I can’t afford to continue incurring these bills with no job and no income. Adoptions have been very slow which is normal this time of year and there are no other sources of income to help cover all the costs of running this rescue and paying for a building to house cats who are waiting for homes.

If you can make a donation we’d very much appreciate it. You can donate through Facebook which disburses payment monthly or you can donate via PayPal on our website at www.feline-fix.org

We appreciate your support!

Bobcat (on right) is a 15 pound bobtail who has a quirky but lovable personality. He knows what he wants when he wants it and nobody will tell him otherwise!

This guy was very crabby and standoffish when he first came to us but over the last couple of months he’s settled into a routine and we’ve gotten to know him better. Bobcat is okay with other cats (as you can see he likes to supervise his mini-me’s) and enjoys attention but on his terms. He loves to eat and gets very sweet and affectionate when he knows he’s going to be fed. He also likes to follow me around the shelter while I’m doing cat chores and every once in awhile he will come over for pets before returning to his nap spot.

Bobcat is a really handsome guy and he genuinely looks like a bobcat which is obviously how he got his name. He would love to share a home with someone who enjoys the company of a cat but doesn’t want one that’s super clingy or needy. Bobcat would not be a good fit for a family with young kids because of his propensity for strong opinions about when, how and where he gets attention from people.

He’s about 5-6 years old and his adoption fee is currently waived to an approved home! You can apply to adopt at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/FFMO/Cat
