🌟 CART Highlight 🌟 Amador County Animal Response Team (ACART) - When a disaster or emergency happens, preparedness makes all the difference for animals and their families. Across California, Community Animal Response Teams (CARTs) enhance disaster response efforts by providing coordinated support for animal care, evacuation and sheltering. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on the Amador County Animal Response Team (ACART) - a dedicated group of volunteers who have been committed to animal welfare and disaster response since 2009. Our monthly general meeting last night saw ACART volunteers assemble animal go bags for dogs and cats, designed to assist our senior community in evacuating with their pets during disasters. These bags contained essential goods to support the temporary housing of dogs and cats until they can return home or secure longer-term care. The distribution of these go bags will be conducted in conjunction with our local Meals on Wheels program soon. Funding for this initiative was made possible by a grant from the Amador Community Foundation. If you would like to help our team with future projects, donations can be made through the Amador Community Foundation at the link below.

UPDATE: Mandatory Evacuations have been lifted and everyone has been allowed to return. Thank you to those who offered supplies and assistance. Let’s hope this is the last event this year.

Activation of ACART is currently in progress, and arrangements are being made at the Amador County Fairgrounds, specifically within the Spur Emporium building, to provide shelter for small animals belonging to individuals evacuated due to the 'Tiger' fire.

Excessive Heat Warning!

Good morning, Amador County

Due to the Excessive Heat Warning the National Weather Service has issued, a Cooling Center will be opened from Wednesday, July 3rd through Sunday, July 7th. (Additional days may be added if the heat event continues). This Cooling Center will be at the Health and Human Services building located at 10877 Conductor Blvd, Sutter Creek, and will be open from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm daily. Amador County Social Services staff will be on-site to provide water and snacks donated by the American Red Cross.

You’re also invited to bring your household pet to this Cooling Center, and the Amador County Animal Response Team (ACART) will be on-site to help you kennel your furry friend while you cool off. Kennels will be on-site and water will also be provided for your pet.

Plymouth and Ione will also have their own Cooling Centers. Plymouth’s will be at City Hall (9426 Main Street) from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm from Wednesday through Friday, and Ione’s will be at the Ione Fire Department, Station 2, located at 600 Preston Avenue from 1:30 pm to 7:00 pm from today through Sunday. Also, you can always cool off at the Jackson Library and catch up on your reading.

In the event of a wildfire, being prepared is crucial. Ensure your emergency kit includes essential items such as water, non-perishable food, a first aid kit, tools and supplies like flashlights and batteries, clothing, and specialty items like medications and important documents.
