Grace has been quietly putting in the work, and it’s time to bring her back into the spotlight as we start looking for her perfect new home.

She’s coming along beautifully. A bit forward under saddle, but nice & responsive to your leg. Not quite the match for a timid rider, but with the right partner, this girl’s got the heart and grit to go far.

Spicy was ready to set foot out of the arena and into the "real world" this weekend, so we loaded her up & took her out on her first trail ride. It was a great intro to the various sights, new surroundings, smells while learning to navigate the hills & water crossings. We sure could have done without the heat & bugs but tis the season!

It’s been a wild and busy spring here at the barn.
I definitely took on more horses than usual this spring and now things are finally starting to slow down just a bit as some horses have gone home (a few new ones trickling in) and pony camp week came and went in a flash!

We added some guineas to help with the bug control - the horse allergies have been terrible this season all ready.

Our mini herford cow finally had a cute little bull calf.

We recently welcomed in two beautiful blue roans.
"Spicy" a sharp looking 3-year-old QH mare here to be started under saddle for 90 days.
"Loki" a 6 yr old 16-hand draft gelding from Texas working on his ground manners and gaining confidence outside the arena.

I'm appreciating the slower pace for a minute before the next wave hits. I want to give you an early heads up - I'm all ready booking into next year so if you are wanting a guaranteed spot - be sure to reach out and place your deposit.

Our newest arrival & just in time for Memorial Day weekend. A quiet, living reminder of new beginnings and the simple joys we’re free to experience thanks to the sacrifices of so many. While we celebrate this sweet life, we’re also taking time to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives so we could live ours in peace. 🇺🇸

Freedom isn’t free. Grateful today and always.

Miss Brigade is really coming into herself. Thirty days in, and she’s dropped the winter fluff, put on good, functional muscle, and started moving in a way that truly serves her body.

When she arrived, even at liberty, all she could offer was a tight, hurried trot - gaiting wasn’t even an option. But with work centered on balance, posture, and strength, she’s now choosing to gait on her own. It’s smooth, relaxed, and repeatable. No shortcuts - just a body that can support what it was built to do. And with that change, she’d become strong enough to start under saddle and carry a rider’s weight.

She’s a smart, steady-minded mare who shows up ready to try. A real pleasure to have in our program.

*Thank you Becca for riding her so I can get some candid photos!

Got some clips of both Joey & Brigade on their first couple rides under saddle. These are some nice prospects! We're gonna load up & take them on a trail ride today before we get more torrential downpours this week 😩

We’re excited to introduce Gracie to our program!

Gracie is here for continued training as we help her find her next home. She’s a pretty mover with a kind presence, and we will be enjoying getting to know her both in the arena and out on the trail building on all her strengths.

She is 7 years old. Stands 14.3 hands & is registered with AQHA.

Early impressions have us thinking she could shine as a ranch pleasure prospect, but possibilities surely don't end there.

Last week, Tucker found the forever home he’s always deserved. 🧡 I’m beyond grateful to Kim for seeing the greatness in him & giving him a place where he will be loved and cherished. Watching him leave was bittersweet, but knowing he’s in such good hands makes my heart so full.

I also want to sincerely thank everyone who shared his post, & participated in helping me showcase him. Your support truly made all the difference. It means more to me - and to Tucker - than you know. 💞

We just laid to rest one of our beloved mares due to a degenerative lameness issue. We could have bred as her bloodlines were 🤌, but we were not okay with the possibility of passing it on.

Be sure to click on the original post & read all the comments for some good insightful food for thought.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, none of the horses on the U.S. show jumping or eventing teams were American-bred. Not one.

Every mount representing red, white, and blue was born and brought up overseas, while our own breeding barns churn out thousands of foals a year. For a country as vast, wealthy, and horse-obsessed as the United States, that’s embarrassing.

It’s not a fluke. It’s a symptom of a broken system. We are not producing our own elite equine athletes because we’re not breeding for them.

In many U.S. breeding programs, the decision to breed a mare often isn’t based on her competition success. It’s based on injury. She bowed a tendon at four? Breed her. She fractured a sesamoid before she ever showed? Put her in foal so she “doesn’t just sit.” She was too unsound to make it through a futurity season? “She has a nice head.” This is breeding as damage control. Not selection. Not strategy.

We’re taking the horses who didn’t last, who couldn’t compete, and we’re passing those traits: genetic unsoundness, poor conformation, low resilience, on to the next generation. And we’re doing no better with the boys.

The U.S. barn landscape is simply not set up to support stallions. Most boarding facilities don’t allow them. Trainers often discourage keeping colts intact due to behavioral concerns and limited resale value. As a result, some of our most promising bloodlines are literally cut off before they even have a chance to contribute. Meanwhile, Europe is building stallion careers alongside competition careers, backing them with systems designed to assess, preserve, and promote excellence.

Across Europe, breeding is a science, not an afterthought. Registries require mares to pass performance tests. Stallions must prove themselves through the same performance tests as well as competition and through the quality of their offspring. Longevity, trainability, reproductive soundness, and rideability matter, just as much as flash. In the Netherlands, the KWPN registry ensures that horses with structural and genetic flaws are actively removed from the breeding pool. They are building better horses on purpose, while performance testing is virtually nonexistant in the USA. We’re gambling on foals from horses who quite literally could not even finish the race.

Why do we do this? Because our industry rewards early speed, early sales, and early burnout. We breed for yearling sales, futurities, and young horse classes. We reward breeders who produce a shiny prospect, not a durable horse.

We need a complete shift in breeding values. That means stopping the practice of breeding injured or completely unproven mares and instead selecting those who lasted, who stayed sound, performed consistently, and demonstrated resilience over time. It also means investing in infrastructure that allows promising colts to remain stallions, rather than gelding them for convenience or marketability. We must begin to track soundness, temperament, and fertility across generations, using that data to make informed decisions. And we need to embrace modern tools: genetic testing, performance records, and international benchmarks, instead of relying on nostalgia or sentiment. Because right now, we are selecting for the opposite of what we need. And it’s playing out in rehab barns, in short-lived careers, and yes, on the Olympic scoreboard.

This isn’t a crusade against breeders. It’s a call for accountability, ambition, and change. If we want to see American-bred horses wearing stars and stripes again, not just in name, but in origin, we need to start breeding for more than emotion and convenience. We need to breed horses that can stand the test of time, not just pass a vet check at a sale. Until we do, we’ll just keep buying our best from Europe, and wondering where our greatness went.

Once again, spring has rolled around and with it, my usual struggle to keep this page updated! (anyone want to help me out in this area, please pm me!) Last weekend was a big one as we said happy trails to a few we legged up and welcomed some fresh new faces into the barn.

I'm really excited to introduce you to these three:

First up is Joey. A handsome 3-year-old AQHA gelding and grandson of the legendary Shining Spark. This guy is a total knockout from every angle and has a kind, willing mind to match. He’s here to be started under saddle, and while he’s in training, we’ll also be helping him find his perfect person. If you’re on the lookout for a flashy young gelding to bring along your way, don’t hesitate to reach out if your looking for something unstarted.

Next is Brigade, a beautiful 3-year-old registered buckskin Fox Trotter mare who comes from A Blazin Ranch owned by Stefanie Zanders. She’s also here to get her start under saddle.

And last but certainly not least, a Fox Trotter mare named Peaches! If that name sounds familiar, it’s because she was here on consignment last fall and found a lovely new home nearby. Her new owner has done a fantastic job with her groundwork over the winter and sent her back for a 30-day spring tune-up. It’s always such a treat to see horses return and continue progressing!

More updates and photos to come soon—thanks for following along!
