Our Doors Are Always OpenThe doors to the Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. are open to every animal in need. Because we are a "full access" shelter, no animal is ever turned away. Many other shelters, animal care facilities and sanctuaries define themselves as "no-kill" shelters. While we at the Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. salute the work of animal welfare groups everywhere, we find the label of "no-kill" to be inaccurate. Organizations like these are better defined as "limited access" shelters because they have the option of turning away animals for health, behavior and in some instances cosmetic reasons.In order to comply with their idealistic arrangement, and maintain their public image, they have to restrict their intake of animals to only those that have the best chance of being adopted. We do not have such a luxury. As a full-access shelter, the Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. takes in sick and injured animals and those that are not probable candidates for adoption. Everyday dozens of pets that are no longer wanted are turned over to the caring hands of IVHS; every day we accept pets from people who are unable to care for them anymore; and everyday our doors open for the dozens of stray animals that are lost, abandoned and homeless. At the core of the Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. is our obligation to care for these animals.We work vigorously to find new, loving and permanent homes for every healthy pet! Because we are a full-access shelter and never deny any animal entry, there is no set time limit for how long an animal will be available for adoption. As long as the animal is healthy and maintains a good disposition, we'll keep a pet for an indefinite period.

Happy ! Today is extra special because it’s Celebrate Shelter Pets Day—a perfect time to honor all the amazing pets who have found their forever homes. 🐾❤️

We’re so grateful to everyone who supports shelter pets, from the families who choose adoption to our incredible fosters and dedicated volunteers who help care for and advocate for these animals. And a huge thank-you to our adoption team, whose hard work this holiday season has made such a difference. Over the past two weeks alone, they’ve helped nearly 200 pets find their forever homes—a true testament to their dedication and compassion!

🌿✨ Wildlife Wednesday ✨🌿

Recently, our team responded to a call about a Barn Owl trapped in a Chino Hills chimney! 🦉🔥 Our animal control officer carefully removed the owl, ensuring it was unharmed. After a quick check, it was released back into its local habitat, ready to take flight again.

Fun fact: Did you know Barn Owls can hunt in complete darkness thanks to their incredible hearing? 🦉🔊 Nature never ceases to amaze! 💚

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to foster a furry friend in need? 🌟 One of our incredible foster families has opened their hearts and homes to six large-breed dogs, helping each one on their journey to find a loving forever home. 💕 Their most recent foster, Celtic, is back with us for a short stay while they enjoy some holiday travels, but their commitment to her hasn’t wavered—they’re ready to pick her back up if she’s still waiting for her perfect match when they return. 🐾 Ready to hear why they love fostering? “Our family has truly enjoyed being part of IVHS by fostering adult dogs in our home! We absolutely appreciate the amazing work the shelter does to care for these dogs. Plus, by welcoming an adult dog into our hearts while they wait for their forever home, we’re helping to create more space at IVHS and giving them a chance to socialize and get ready for their new family. Happy ! This week, we’re celebrating the joy of so many pets finding their forever homes. Two adoptions that made our hearts especially full were those of Bertha and George. Bertha, a sweet and patient kitty who had been with us for over 200 days, finally found her perfect family. And George, another long-term resident who spent more than 100 days in our care, is now happily settling into his forever home! 🐾💖

These incredible adoptions remind us why we’re so thankful for our amazing adopters. Whether it’s giving a longtime resident a fresh start or welcoming a new furry (or scaley) friend, every adoption makes a difference. Meet Jam, Our Beloved Therapy Dog 🐾

Jam is more than just a furry friend; she’s a source of comfort, healing, and connection for those in need. As our official therapy dog, Jam plays a vital role in bringing joy and emotional support to individuals in our community, whether they’re facing challenges, recovering from trauma, or simply in need of a calming presence.

Recently, Jam was requested to visit a local school to support students and staff. Her calming demeanor and gentle spirit made a profound impact, helping them feel more at ease and supported during a difficult time.

Therapy dogs like Jam remind us of the incredible bond between humans and animals, showcasing the power of love and compassion in creating a brighter, healthier community. 🐶❤️

One year ago today, Tiny Tim was left on our doorstep in the middle of the night, struggling to walk and in desperate need of care. With time, love, and lots of TLC, he made an incredible recovery—and found his perfect forever home! ❤️ Now renamed Porkchop by his amazing adopters, this sweet boy has blossomed into a happy, playful pup who gets along with every pet he meets. But that’s not all—Porkchop is also working toward becoming a certified therapy dog, spreading joy wherever he goes! ✨ We couldn’t be more proud of how far Porkchop has come and are so grateful for his wonderful family. Recently, we witnessed an emotional reunion that warmed our hearts and highlighted the life-changing impact of microchipping! A sweet beagle, missing for two years, was brought into the shelter by a kind-hearted Samaritan. Thanks to her microchip, we were able to track down her family and make the call they’d been waiting for all this time. 🎃🐾 It’s a spooky surprise! This weekend, a generous little girl donated Halloween-themed toys and treats, bringing extra joy to our shelter pets! 🦉 Wildlife Wednesday Rescue Alert! 🦉 This majestic Great-Horned Owl found itself in a tough spot, tangled in a soccer net in a La Verne resident’s backyard. Thankfully, our skilled team was quick to respond, bringing the owl back to our medical center where our vet staff carefully cut it free from the netting. After a full check-up and some much-needed TLC, this beautiful raptor was given a clean bill of health and released back to its natural habitat! 💚 🌲 A big thank you to the resident who spotted it and reached out to help save a life. #WildlifeWednesday #GreatHornedOwl #WildlifeRescue #BackToTheWild
