A few pictures from yesterday's visit to the For the Sake of Animals sanctuary. I had the opportunity to visit with the horses while they were eating. They still need help with the rising cost of hay to feed all 13 horses and 3 burros. The Arkansas summer drought has made hay very scarce which has caused the price to skyrocket beyond the sanctuary's budget for hay. If you can help this amazing non profit sanctuary with $5, please do! Nearly 100 animals live on the sanctuary and times have been hardest on rescues and sanctuaries. Angelo, Panther, the rest of the kitties and I want everyone to know how grateful we all are for moving out of that dangerous place and into our heavenly new home. My good friend, Diana Stockton, has been put in emergency financial strains that include rescuing and housing us, her father being put in very expensive nursing care due to aggressive Dementia and keeping her sanctuary's 70 cats, 13 horses and 3 wild burros fed and cared for during a summer long drought that has made food for the horses scarce and skyrocket in price.

I will be going on board with For the Sake of Animals, where Diana is Founder and CEO, to help keep the sanctuary afloat and hopefully grow it to help more animals. 19 year old furever foster, Whisper, playing this morning with one of the new toys courtesy of generous donors for our move, thank you!

Whisper is the last of a family of 7 cats so we are thrilled she is adjusting well to my 8 cats.

Minnie Mouse, who's in the background, is headed to the vet on Monday for her glucose curve test to get her on the right diet/medication plan best for her. Thank you to those who donated for her vet care and Frankie's medication.

It didn’t take long for the kitties to settle into our new home! They absolutely love the sunroom 😻

We urgently need a foster to save his life!
Can anyone help this little guy? He’s a good looking spotted tuxedo. He’s very friendly and appears to already be neutered. He has one cloudy eye but neither of his eyes look normal. He’s been wandering the streets here in Pontiac living in an attic crawl space that I’ve been trying to get cats out of. He’s so loving and affectionate, he deserves a home and not living in a filthy crawl space. Can any rescues take?

Quick update on our move to Arkansas.

Richard - the dementia patient, who was supposed to be my new live-in buddy, however, the hospital will not release him to go home. Instead, they want him going to a retirement facility due to the extent of his dementia. However, my good friend Diane is still moving the kitties and I into her dad’s home. Diane’s dad, Richard will likely be returning home after spending a little time in the retirement facility.

We are lucky enough to have professional animal transport drivers coming all the way from Arkansas in a huge transport van to pick us up and move us to Arkansas. Plans have been delayed and now plan to leave Monday morning.

I’ve been on the go nearly nonstop for days trying to get all of our arrangements made and packing while still taking care of everyone. I will continue to update. I have the most amazing news!!!!! I can't believe I've been given such an amazing opportunity! My long-time Facebook friend and supporter of my rescue work, Diana, offered me a solution to our housing crisis that I couldn't refuse. Thank you, Diana! Some of you may remember a fundraiser about 2.5 years ago to move to Mena, Arkansas. Unfortunately, COVID hit at that time and I was not able to get there. It took 2.5 years to figure out how to get us down there but it was surely meant to be!

I've been invited to this beautiful house in the small, quiet town of Mena, Arkansas. Diana runs a horse and cat sanctuary there and has family in the area, including her elderly father. At 89 years old, her father, Richard, has developed Dementia and he now needs round-the-clock care. Diana so generously offered me housing with her dad rent free in lieu of caring for him.

All 8 bonded senior kitties and I have agreed to move! We will be leaving as soon as this weekend but will know and update with the exact date soon.

Thank you to everyone who made this happen! I'm grateful beyond words to of course Diana and the crew of people she has preparing for us and moving us at no expense, to everyone donating, sharing, praying and sending positive thoughts our way. It worked!

That didn't take long! 😍

Sq**rt went to the vet yesterday and directly into foster. Within just a few hours, she was officially a ! The whole family, more specifically the foster's husband adamant about not adopting more cats, fell in love and couldn't let her go. Who can resist such special ? She is getting adopted in with her Doppelganger named Sunshine. Surely she will have an amazing life spoiled like every kitty deserves to be.

Thank you to 4 Paws 1 Heart for sponsoring the vet care for yet another one of our rescues. Post-Covid, they have been the driving force behind many of the lives we continue to save! Happy Gotcha Day to Minnie Mouse and Panther! ❤️🐾

Minnie was rescued 8 years ago as a kitten. I received a call about a litter of kittens dumped in a store parking stuck in a shopping cart in the August heat. She was the only one who didn't get adopted and she immediately bonded with Panther.

I found Panther being thrown around and abused by 3 young boys outside my home. Needless to say, he came with me. Poor little guy was so traumatized by the incident, he cowered into my chest and cried for 3 days. Even at 8 years old, he still has separation anxiety.

Minnie and Panther, along with myself and 6 other bonded elderly cats are currently facing a Housing Crisis. Several of the cats are needing immediate vet care along with life-saving medication in addition to all of the expenses involved in moving. And, yes, we are still rescuing every animal we can out of here until we can no longer help them. We need the help of our Village of Animal Lovers!

Update on Minnie Mouse and Lucy's vet visit:

Lucy went in for a suspected ear infection. Fortunately, the vet did not find any infection. I will continue to monitor her and treat her with ear drops as needed.

Minnie Mouse, unfortunately, didn't get so lucky. As I suspected, she tested positive for Diabetes. She is going in to another vet on Sept 6th for a consultation with a glucose test to follow to get her started on insulin. Her initial consultation is $58 and her glucose test is estimated to be $85-$100. We will need to raise an additional $58 by the 6th and the remaining $85-$100 shortly after with a date TBD.

I hate to update with bad news but unfortunately our move this Friday got called off. There were several reasons why, but the homeowner who was allowing us to move in changed his mind yesterday evening and returned my belongings that he picked up on Monday. This brings us back to square one with nowhere to go.

Fortunately I still have not received an eviction notice so our 30 day time bomb has yet to start ticking. I'm continuing to scramble and pathetically beg renters in order to save my family of 8 elderly, medical and hospice kitties. Please continue praying for us. We need a miracle!

In the meantime, I'm going to raise the fundraiser's goal since it's looking like we are going to need it to hang in here longer with the possibility of travel and rental car expenses, in addition to several months of rent and cat supplies we'll need to get me back on my feet. Sadly, going back to work eliminates my ability to do rescue but I'm hoping and praying that this all works out for the better somehow.

*** Kitten is NOT up for adoption. I'm looking for a reputable rescue to take her or an approved foster through this rescue to care for her until she is ready to go to her forever home. Fosters must be local to Oakland County, have reliable transportation and be willing to transport her to vet appointments and to her new home. Anyone interested in adopting her may apply to foster. Once she is ready to be adopted, you may then apply to adopt her. ***

This little girl was brought to me today by a kid in my neighborhood. He said someone gave him a kitten but he can't keep her. He knocked on my door to give her to me but he walked away before I could get to the door. I found him down the street just as he released her into a bush.

I'm moving this week so I cannot do any vetting or find her a home. Do any rescues or fosters have room? I am moving to a new home Friday around noon and I absolutely cannot take her with me. Homeowner will not allow more cats than my own into his house. I can take care of her until then but without a rescue or foster, I will be forced to bring her to a shelter.

She's approx 10-12 weeks old, very sweet and affectionate. She jumps onto my lap and loves to nuzzle my neck and face. She's got 3 cute little white spots on her neck, chest and belly. She's a doll and doesn't deserve to be in a shelter! Please send me a message if you can take her. Thanks!

I'm so happy to say that all 8 medical elderly kitties and I officially have a new home! Signed in black and white today, we started moving some of our belongings today and expect to be entirely moved out this Friday. However, a complication came up today. I was told the homeowner's cat is FIV+ but when calling his vet today, found out that he also has FeLV. Having a FIV+ friendly cat socializing with FIV- cats is rarely a problem, however FeLV is different. He has agreed to isolate his cat to his bedroom for 90 days (until 11-22) to keep it from spreading to the other cats. We both agree that it's not fair to keep him locked for longer than needed so we will need to find another home soon after. I still have not received the eviction letter (for breaking my lease with too many cats) and it's obviously a huge advantage to avoid it. I'm only giving him $100 this week to move and $450 monthly starting Sept 4th. This is an amazing price for a 1200sq ft 3 bedroom home in a nice, peaceful area. It's only about 25 minutes north of me so it's also to my advantage to stay local for now.

I'll likely have to buy a little furniture and the kitties will likely need some things replaced. I will post with a new registry for any items we may need.

Final update on little puppy Blu: I'm sad to say that he passed early this morning. He was doing well until he had his 3rd seizure around 5:30am. Even though it was still very mild, I couldn't bring him out of it. By the time I could rush him out the door to an emergency vet, his tiny body gave up and he quit breathing.

Rescuing in an imperfect world can have devastating effects and unfortunately not all of them can be saved. I'm grateful that he passed in the hands of someone trying their best to save him, rather than what surely would have happened otherwise. RIP little baby Blu. You earned your wings and are free from suffering 😭💔

I have updates on the kitties at the vet today and more amazing people to thank, however we got a surprise puppy emergency this morning. This little guy is Blu and was found walking down a main road through construction. The kind Samaritan who found him, rushed into the vet this morning just as I was coming in with Minnie Mouse and Lucy. He's obviously too young to be away from mom estimated to be only 2-3 weeks old and looks like he's been wandering the streets for 2-3 days. He wasn't going to get the care he needed unless I stepped in. He has unfortunately been rapidly declining since going into seizures.

He is currently being fostered by an assistant at the vet's office and is peacefully sleeping from a dose of Va**um. He's now on his way out to my home to further evaluate him and hopefully work to keep his seizures under better control until he can get in for full veterinary work. I'll be constantly monitoring him but if his seizures are causing him to suffer, he will have to be humanely euthanized as soon as possible. Please pray that we can save his little life!

I finally FINALLY after 5 long weeks have a little good news. I'm scheduled to go see a home this weekend. It's about 30 minutes away from me here and bigger than any of the homes they've lived in before. It's very affordable and the homeowner is fine with the 8 cats. He also has a cat of his own who no doubt my Angelo and Panther will love. Please keep the kitties and I in your thoughts. It's been our only yes to keep everyone together. I still haven't received the 30 day eviction notice so I still have a chance to get out before it shows up affecting my ability to get future housing 🤞

Please also keep Minnie Mouse and Lucy in your prayers as they go to the vet today. Minnie was rescued 8 years ago abandoned in the August heat in a store parking lot trapped as a baby in a grocery cart with the rest of her litter. She was the only one who didn't find a home. She's had recent sudden weight-loss that's become urgent to have her checked for diabetes and other illnesses. Lucy was rescued 9 years ago when I found her abandoned in a parking lot hungry and freezing in 2° weather. She's had a goopy eye and her ear is bothering her. I will be having her checked for an ear infection.

We've raised over $2000 for our move and thank God for all of you! We can afford to live for several months in the home I'm looking at this weekend giving me more time to find work and get my own home back.

Thank you to everyone who has been donating, sharing and praying! I was hoping to have good news for an update. Sadly, we still have no solid plans that I can make work. The fundraisers are dead and so far may not have enough funds to make the "backup plans" happen because they are cross country. With the price of gas and being unable to find a hybrid vehicle to rent that would fit us all, cross country moves may get us stuck somewhere with no way to pay for gas to keep going. I've been networking with rescues and sanctuaries for help to find us safe housing and checking with with state programs and organizations that may have resources.

We need a miracle! We need an Angel to step up to keep a loving family together. I'm currently in Pontiac, Michigan outside of Detroit. Local places to stay are the most doable but if enough funds are raised, I can take us anywhere in the US.

PLEASE! If you are local to Detroit, PLEASE help us find temporary cat friendly housing. Our lives are on the line and the difference could be you with a basement, or you with an open rental property, or you who have contacts that can house us but don't know about us. Move out to prevent eviction and possible removal of cats from my home, is the weekend of August 5th with keys returned no later than 8am August 8th. Please help in any way you can.

More good news on the home front. Oliver has been adopted!

His new dad says he opened up to him right away. In fact, Oliver acted liked like he lived there all his life. He says Oliver is "the perfect cat." Oliver's favorite thing to do is help his dad play video games.

We are still in a housing crisis and need IMMEDIATE help! We are in urgent need of housing for myself and 8 bonded senior cats. We are currently in the Detroit area but willing to relocate to anywhere in the US. I only qualify for low income housing at the moment. However, low income housing has extensive wait lists that we don't have for before we have to leave our current home. We must leave no later than 8am on August 8th otherwise we will be evicted because of the cats.

With so many terrible things happening in the world today, how about some good news?

Rouge and Cricket got adopted TOGETHER! These 2 started off as buddies running the streets as strays before coming to Up in Arms for Animals Rescue & Rehab. Rouge and Cricket are clearly happy to have a wonderful home together where they can be loved and spoiled.
