I had to take this sweet girl to the vet yesterday. The doctor was so impressed with the fact that she has lost about 1.5 lbs since her last visit, and commented on how her teeth were so clean and fur so soft. I’m so glad I started this journey of making homemade food for Trixie! I love when others can notice all the positive effects on her, without even knowing how her diet has changed. ❤️

Last week, I made a post about common parasites and worms found in our pups. I mentioned that ground pumpkin seeds is one of the natural dewormers that can be used. These are the pumpkin seeds I use. They are raw, unsalted, and contain the shell (which is the important part).

🐾I just sprinkle it on top of the dogs' food each evening when they eat. And I have never needed to stir it in the food. The recommended amount is 1/4 teaspoon for each 10 lbs of weight they have.

We’re aware that feeding our pups real foods offers numerous benefits, but did you know these foods can also naturally deworm them? Ingredients like coconut oil, carrots, apples, ground pumpkin seeds, apple cider vinegar, and bananas help deworm without the side effects associated with medications—and they come with a host of other health benefits as well!
🥥 Coconut oil--> Dog's bodies will convert the lauric acid, in coconut oil, to monolaurin, which is known to be effective against tapeworm, giardia, & other parasites.
🐾Ground pumpkin seeds--> Ground pumpkin seeds are considered a natural dewormer for dogs due to the presence of an amino acid called cucurbitacin. Cucurbitacin paralyzes parasites like tapeworms and roundworms, making it easier for the dog’s digestive system to expel them. The seeds are ground to ensure they can be easily digested and absorbed, maximizing their effectiveness.
-I grind mine in a coffee grinder & store in the bag they came in. They will keep on a shelf for months, but they can also be kept in the refrigerator.

🐾Apple cider vinegar--> ACV can be an effective natural treatment for worms in dogs because it can make the intestinal environment inhospitable for parasites. The enzymes in ACV can weaken the coating of worms, causing them to lose their grip on the intestinal wall. ACV also increases the alkaline levels in the intestines and raises good bacteria in the gut, which can't support parasites or worms.

Ground turkey, green beans, carrots, spinach, sweet potato, apples, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, quinoa, beef bone broth, beef liver, chia seeds, ginger, flaxseed meal, turmeric, & brewer’s yeast. Calcium supplement to be added to the batch after cooking.

Coconut Oil 🐾🥥🐾

I regularly include coconut oil on my dogs' meals a few times per week. I usually drizzle it over their food. Coconut oil offers antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal benefits, enhances nutrient digestion and absorption, helps eliminate parasites, prevents yeast infections, and is a highly appreciated dietary supplement that my dogs enjoy.
