We are still looking for the perfect home for Ellie. Ellie is an almost 4 year old spayed female from our good friend at Golden Leash Kennels. She was recently returned by her family due to them feeling like she deserved more than they could give her. We are looking for an active home with other dogs. Ellie does well with other dogs, cats and children. She loves to play and she loves to swim. She is very well mannered, knows basic commands, and is crate trained. She has a current health certificate, up to date with vaccines and heartworm/flea/tick prevention. She just had a negative f***l and negative 4DX heartworm test. She had her stomach tacked and is fully recovered from the surgery but still growing some hair back.

Meet Ellie!

Ellie is an almost 4 year old, spayed, female AKC registered golden retriever who was bred by our wonderful friend Golden Leash Kennels in California.

Ellie was living with her family in Florida when they had to make the unfortunate decision to return her to her breeder. We currently have Ellie in our home and are assisting her breeder with finding her a forever home here in Florida so that she does not have to travel back to California (while that is also an option, we are hoping for less travel for Ellie).

Ellie is a WONDERFUL girl! She is well mannered, great with other dogs, cats and children. She has grown up with children and is very gentle with cats. She has done wonderful with my five year old. We are looking for her future home to have other dogs in the house as Ellie LOVES TO PLAY and gets along wonderful with other dogs. She is also a great swimmer and would love to have a home with a pool! She has been trained and knows many commands, but does need some brushing up on her leash skills (we are working on it).

Ellie has previously had one litter of puppies. She was a fabulous mom. She is fully health tested with OFA good hips (24 months), OFA normal elbows (24 months), OFA normal eyes (27 months) and OFA heart clearance by echocardiogram and EKG (26 months). She is fully vaccinated, crate and potty trained, and current on heartgard and bravecto.

Ellie did recently have surgery to have her stomach tacked and she does have some weight to lose which we are already working on. Before Ellie leaves our house, she will receive a clean bill of health with a veterinary health certificate.

At this time I am interviewing potential homes who may be interested in Ellie. Please keep in mind, we do want her to have at least one other dog in the house who is willing to play. I will update my website with a page for her shortly, please contact me with any interest.

This is our first time ever getting to actually spend time with and enjoy the stud dog that we have gotten to breed with. Julian is an absolutely amazing boy! He has a super sweet and laid back personality. He is a great snuggler. He loves kids, is great with cats and does wonderful with the other dogs in our house. Not only is he incredibly handsome but he is the all around full package stud dog with his personality and great lineage. We are extremely thankful to his owner for allowing us to borrow her amazing boy and we are incredibly excited for our hopeful litter this summer.

Carina and Lyra got to go swimming today at our friend’s house with her goldens! Carina was living her best life. She went from sinking to jumping into the pool in all of ten minutes! Lyra was a natural swimmer but did not have the confidence Carina had jumping in.

Alya has come into season this morning and it is time for us to make our final decision on our breeding plans. If you are on my wait list, or potentially interested in a puppy, please contact me! We will only be breeding with a full wait list. This would be Alya’s last litter before retirement.

This morning we had echocardiograms for our two upcoming girls Carina and Lyra (our keeper from Alya and Lincoln).

Echocardiograms are a very important part of health testing that should be completed before breeding. Echocardiograms are ultrasounds of the heart, which catch things that would not be found on just a basic auscultation. While OFA only requires auscultations for our breed, echocardiograms are the gold standard for producing healthy puppies.

I am delighted to announce that our keeper Lyra passed her echocardiogram, the first step in her health clearances, with flying colors!

With the good news also comes bittersweet news, our Carina unfortunately was marked equivocal on her echocardiogram. While she does not have heart disease, she has mild defects that do not make her the most ideal breeding candidate. While the cardiologists offer that she could potentially be bred, we should be extra cautious in her pairings. Carina’s mild defects would not have been found with just a simple auscultation. If we had not preformed an echocardiogram, Carina would have passed an auscultation and would have been bred potentially passing on this issue. While she will live a normal and healthy life, we do not want to risk passing on problems to puppies.

With this information, please if you are looking for a puppy then please check the dogs clearances. Look at them yourself as they should be public on the OFA website. Golden retrievers should have eyes screened annually by ophthalmologist, hearts checked by cardiologist after 12 months of age (remember that echocardiogram is the gold standard) and have hips and elbows checked after 24 months of age for final results. Not all dogs are perfect, and some are still worth breeding without perfect results, but at least take a look at the results and make an educated decision based off of them.

Our breeding plans for this year do not include Carina, and Lyra is still too young with more health testing ahead of her. We are potentially planning our last litter for Alya this year, it will be her retirement litter if we do decide to breed her. If you are interested in a Alya puppy, please check our website and fill out an application or send me a message. She would be due in season mid-April to May with puppies ready to go home sometime in August-September. We will only be breeding this cycle with a full wait list. Otherwise, our breedings will hopefully presume once Lyra is two years old in January and finishes health testing ❤️

Happy 1st birthday to my Alya and Lincoln litter!! This was our second litter ever and the first litter that we kept our own baby from. We have watched Lyra turn into a beautiful young lady along with the rest of her siblings! Don’t Buy A Dog From Me
( What reputable breeders want you to know)

If you want to buy a dog and walk away, don’t buy one from me. If you want to pick a puppy because it came to you when you sat down or gave you a cute look, don’t buy one from me. If you don’t want to take my recommendations on what food to feed or what is best for the health and well being of the dog, after years of experience, don’t buy a dog from me.
If you just want a puppy NOW, because you need it for a Christmas gift or to be in Senior Pictures, don’t buy one from me. If you never plan to update me on how the dogs is doing or send a picture once in a while, don’t buy a dog from me.
If you want a dog to live in the back yard, run loose on a farm and never share time in the house with your family, definitely don’t buy a dog from me. If you want a lawn ornament, you can buy one made of cement or plaster, not much care needed.
However, if you want a puppy that has parents with health testing, that was socialized, loved and made a priority from the day it was born. A puppy who’s temperament and activity level has been carefully chosen to fit your lifestyle. A puppy selectively and purposefully bred to the standard set forth by our breed club, then maybe you do want to buy a dog from me.
If you want a breeder who will at anytime in the dogs life take them bred back, no questions asked and refund your money. A breeder who is there 24/7 for you and your dog for questions and concerns and will work hard to help you resolve any issues. Then you might want to buy a dog from me.
If you want a breeder who loves each puppy/dog with all her heart, considers you part of the family and will laugh or cry with you at any time. Well then we might be a match.
Reputable breeders should never be lumped in with puppy mills, backyard breeders or those who broker dogs. A reputable breeder will be able to provide clearances, a five generation pedigree, an explanation as to why they bred the two dogs. While most of the time they will make little or no money. What money they might get is reinvested Into the dogs one way or another.
A reputable breeder knows their dogs, and can realistically tell you what to expect and when. They can guide you toward veterinarians, training facilities and products that will benefit your dog.
A reputable breeder will be your friend, a guiding hand and a strong shoulder.
So whatever choice you make, make it with the best interest of the dog in mind and if that’s not your plan….. then don’t buy a dog from me.

Anyone looking for a puppy I highly recommend Kelly with Show Me Goldens. Alya (Grace x Axel - grandfather is Cruise) and Carina (Harleigh x Lance - grandfather is Flynn) are both from SMG, and our beautiful Lyra is sired by their lovely Lincoln. We also had a beautiful litter with Alya x Flynn on our first breeding with Alya. I couldn’t say enough great things about their program and their puppies!

How do we do puppy placements?

We are with our puppies quite a bit. We do not have a kennel. Our dogs and puppies are in our home. We use a hybrid puppy program very much influenced by Puppy Culture and Avidog, as well as some service dog groups we have worked with. Puppies are afforded opportunities to learn and grow through various experiences, while we work to develop positive coping and problem-solving skills. We want to raise happy, healthy and confident puppies. While working with our puppies, we closely watch them so we can learn how they react to different stimuli and circumstances. During our puppy application process, we work with our puppy parents to learn their goals and lifestyle. We use all of this information to place puppies into the right home. We are not a first deposit, first pick kind of breeder. This method has worked well for us for several years.



What is our breeding focus?

Health and temperament are at the very top of our list. Our goal is to breed and raise emotionally and physically sound puppies that are suitable for families, pet therapy and potential service dog work. With each generation, we work to improve upon these goals, as well as the conformation of our dogs. Because of our goals, you will notice that we do have several male dogs and utilize outside stud dogs as well, because we pair dogs that will compliment and improve each other.



What is the process?

If you are interested in one of our current or upcoming litters, please contact us via FB messenger or by emailing [email protected], or you can fill out an application at https://www.show-me-goldens.com/application. Please allow us a few days to contact you, however if a few days passes and you haven’t heard from us, please reach back out. Between the holidays and puppies, it’s a tad crazy around here and I may have just missed it. We will plan a time to chat on the phone so we can get to know each other, and I can learn more about your goals for your puppy. If we move forward with reserving a puppy, I will send you a contract/health guarantee to sign electronically. After that, a deposit is due with the balance due when the puppy goes home. All of our puppies go home current on all immunizations and deworming. They see a vet twice and are microchipped. We take care of AKC registration, as well as microchip enrollment (lifetime, no yearly fees, with AKC Reunite). We do send home a go-home bag full of goodies, as well as some food. All of our puppy parents are encouraged to join our private family Facebook group. We also encourage all of our puppy parents to attend puppy classes and will help you find a class if needed. To encourage this, any of our puppies graduating puppy class or earning their CGC will be sent a BarkBox as a congratulations gift.

These hips belong to an 11 month old German Shepherd. This is severe hip dysplasia and will require a total hip replacement or TPLO surgery at the cost of $3500-$9500. Imagine the pain this young dog is in?
This right here, this is why I have my breeding dogs' hips, elbows, patellas, heart and eyes certified. It is what I can do to prevent you from taking home a dog with severe issues. Every time someone purchases a puppy that it's parents are not certified, is adding to the problem. People will continue to breed without testing as long as there are people who do not care about testing. Do your due diligence so you don't end up in the position that this family is in. If they can't afford surgery, either the dog will suffer or be euthanized. Yes, you may pay a little more for pups from tested parents, but it can save you a lot in the future. Rant over.
