Plus, lots of friendly and knowledgeable advice on how to keep your house rabbit happy and healthy.

Rabbit Advocates is hosting another vaccine clinic soon! I am unfortunately unable to help with this one as I'll be out of town, but that shouldn't stop you from going.

For more details, read below.

Who should sign up for this Rabbit Advocates RHDV2 clinic:

1) your bunny has not been vaccinated against RHDV;
2) did not complete the Medgene 2-dose regimen; or
3) was last vaccinated 9+ months ago with Filavac vaccine.

Once the series 2-dose is complete, bunnies will need a yearly one-dose booster of Medgene.

This event is not a one-dose booster clinic as most of our region's bunnies were either previously vaccinated with Filavac, or are unvaccinated. We apologize for not being able to accommodate bunnies who only need boosters.

This event is intended to help individual bunny owners access affordable vaccines. To ensure that the maximum number of homes may attend, no more than 4 rabbits may be vaccinated per household, rabbit rescue, or other rabbit organization. Please consult with your veterinarian and visit the Medgene Labs website if you have questions about the vaccine.

Did you know that Godsend Pet Care is many, many things...one of them being a Pet Taxi or in this case, a Bunny Bus!
This past Sunday, 3 of my bunny patients had vet appointments but their owners were unable to bring them in themselves. They didn't want to cancel their plans or their appointment...so what were they to do? What other option did they have?
GODSEND PET CARE, THAT'S WHAT/WHO!
Terms and conditions do apply though!
1.) Call your veterinary clinic ahead of time to let them know Godsend Pet Care will be bringing in/picking up your pet and you give authorization for this to happen.
2.) You must be either available by phone or email for the veterinary clinic to contact you regarding your pet's appointment. In the event that you will not be available, please type/write out a THOROUGH AND DETAILED history of what is going on with your pet, what you approve/decline for services, etc. for me to present at drop off.
3.) You must be available to pay your bill at the time services are rendered. Whether that be calling your veterinarian to leave a card on file, or being available by phone to process the payment over the phone, etc.

The price you paid for the pet can sometimes be very misleading

For example: I see budgies at the pet store going for $30-50 (max). So some people are mislead by the price tag thinking it's an easy pet to care for. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Same story goes for the ones buying dogs for $2k-$5k. That's just for the dog alone, folks! Those same ones think because they spent so much on the pet, they don't need to spend any more on anything else. Also...not the case.

With any pet, no matter the size, species, or price tag, they all need exercise, enrichment, appropriate diets, living arrangements, and especially VETERINARY CARE!

Not only is September but it is ALSO !

Service animals go through years (and thousands $$$) of training to learn specific tasks to assist a human counterpart. Whether that be for the blind, the deaf, the paralyzed, the diabetic, the seizure-prone, you get the idea.

These are not to be confused with therapy dogs or emotional support animals. These types are completely different from Service Dogs. It is quite sad how anyone, anywhere can buy a "Service Dog" vest online and place it on their pooch. This unfortunately degrades real service dogs with real training.

So while September seems to be speeding away, let us remember our hard working service dogs and show them appreciation...from afar that is because we don't need to pet or distract a service dog from their tasks ;)

I've heard of 2 cases already this week where pet owners have cut their cats skin trying to remove a knot! Cats skin is very thin and just one small nick can open up the skin like a tomato in hot water!
Many well-meaning people just want to take that pesky mat off their cat or dog, but they’re actually performing unwanted surgery. Then actual surgery by a veterinarian is needed to close the laceration created by them!
Taking a pair of scissors to your pet’s body is never a good idea.
Most mats will come out with brushing, but hard mats can require extra work and often need shaving by a professional.
If you’ve cut your cat while trying to remove matted hair, and the cut looks serious, please see your vet! People usually get a double-whammy dose of guilt when they accidentally cut their pet’s skin.
Put down the scissors now!
Don't even try!
Call your groomer or Vet!
