I have 3 kittens at 6 weeks old looking for a new roof. The black females have dark brown stripes and one has a really cool crooked tail that points to the back of her head and a white heart on her belly. The 3rd is a grey striped tabby male. They are shy of strangers but quickly warm up. All are eating/drinking and litterbox trained!
Please share.

HEADS UP!!! Coastal feed and farm supply has failed! They have merged with another company and have NOT ordered any Haystack Rabbit for the foreseeable future due to a recent unannounced merger!!!

What you can do, call the new Corporate: 208.523.3359 option 4 and complain

In the meantime, you will want to do transition Local or orchard grass hay and get a bag of whatever alternate you prefer and start transitioning immediately until Coastal gets their s**t together.

The more we complain, the more likely they will work on this. I cannot be the only one complaining as me alone will not make a difference.

I have been looking at hay racks and testing a number of them. The biggest things for me was waste prevention and hardiness. I found the solution!! Very, very little waste. Solid construction, easy to hang, easy to load hay into (meaning you can pull the rack out to load it or not as you choose), wide bars for bigger bunny noses and good price for solid construction

REPTIZOO pet hay feeder can keeps hay clean and fresh, the back and bottom is solid, minimizing waste and helping to maintain a clean living environment for your pet. Made of metal, firm and durable. No chewing issue!

If you have bunnies that are not Tamuk:
Here is a way to help keep your bunnies cool in the heat. No freezer space needed!
This method helped me before I turned to Tamuk rabbits. After using this, I never lost a rabbit to heat again. I hope this helps you like it did me! Stay cool my friends!

Get a metal casserole dish, line it with bricks then add rocks around it. Fill with cool water just below the top of the rocks/bricks. This will pull heat from your bunnies that lay on it better than anything and they won't get wet.
No need to freeze water bottles that bunnies chew on. The only things you need to do is keep the dish full and clean out at least once a day.

If you are worried about weight, you can get shelving racks to ziptie under the dish to spread the weight out.

I want to share with you my favorite waterers for my buns. Easy to set up, remove and clean. The rabbits drink better from them as well. I purchase them from Rentacoop. The water reservoir is 2x the size of most bottles. No more removing the whole bottle just to fill. Just lift the top lid and fill easily! The cups are also sold separately. I have had only 1 bunny chew on the arm that hold the cup and that happened only once.

Yesterday it came to my attention that there are 2 people in Oregon selling what they claim to be REW tamuk that are from Joe in California (a big Tamuk breeder) for $35 each.
All breeders on the West coast that I know of, don't sell for less than $100. Some will sell for $60 under certain circumstances

I had a nice chat with Joe yesterday and he reminded me that he is VERY picky on who he sells to and there are very few people he has sold to in Oregon...he has 3 fingers left on his hand after counting.

He also stated that when he sells his tamuk, he includes a card with each rabbit he sells that names the parents of the rabbit.

Starting this week, I will also be doing the same for each sale. For previous sales, I will be contacting those I can find and giving them those cards as well.

My cards will be stating this fb page, where the rabbits that I got originated from and other pertinent information. I am hoping to head off the scammers and protect us breeders a bit more.

If I may suggest to my fellow tamuk breeders to please do the same that would be amazing. If a tamuk breeder cannot prove where their buns are from then those buns could potentially be fake. Those buns that are fakes would risk death in high temps because they were sold under the Tamuk name. This would lead to a bad reputation given to Tamuk and it would take us a lot of work to reverse that.

Thoughts?

Keep an eye on your pellets my friends! I normally feed 16% protein Haystack and just found the protein level was lowered tk 15%. My 18% pellets were also lowered to 17%.
So, what to do when you see that and raise that protein level back up? Alfalfa pellets or BOSS (black oil sunflower seeds. It is not advisable to feed pure alfalfa even in pellets form as the high mineral content could lead to kidney stones. So add just a level tsp of the alfalfa pellets at feeding time. Mix well with your other pellets. BOSS is the same, but can be too hot for your bunnies to handle during summer months.

Now is the time to prep for summer heat. Tamuk don't start saying it is HOT til about 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Many people use frozen tiles or water bottles. I use a metal casserole dish filled with bricks. I then fill the dish with cool water. This creates a cooling induction that helps keep the bricks cool even while the rabbit lay on them. Just keep refilling the dish with water as needed and dump and rinse as you feel necessary. No more using my valuable freezer space!

This coming summer, I am also setting up this solar fan. One fan for each cage (not including the grow out cage which will get multiple fans) for use when it is hot and there is no air movement. No cost to energy for me to run these fans either!
