Monday Mustang Update 🐴♥️
We currently have 8 beautiful mustangs at Harmony Hollow. These beautiful horses (which should still be wild on the range but were ripped from their home unnecessarily 💔) have been settling in nicely with us. 5 of these are young mustangs , a handsome gelding and 4 little fillies were rescued from a killpen where they were bound for slaughter. The whole killpen /slaughter pipeline situation is so horrific but we try to do our small part to save as many as we can.

A little update on the recent successful rescue and how those 6 beautiful horses are doing, after settling in. Sadly we lost the sweet and kind mare Kisses and her unborn foal Easter, but even if just for a brief moment, Kisses got to feel loved, safe and experience a different existence. RIP to a young innocent horse that got abused and discarded so inhumane, but Harmony Hollow had a chance to rewrite her story and close her book with a last chapter of love. This little lady is Lyric. Her and her mom, who I will introduce in a separate video, got saved from the killpen months ago. They were first at the farm with our mares, but due to their trauma response got moved to our dear friend Robert. Back then human contact was impossible, due to their extreme abuse they saw every person as a threat. If you came to close biting, kicking with aim, rearing and what they could do to defend their life's. So they moved and got introduced to Robert's herd to ease their minds and let them mentally come back in a healthy environment. They still don't want to get touched, but they are not a danger to us or themselves anymore. So now the hard part begins.
I lured her buddy Skip in the roundpen to get her in there without stressing her. Thankfully she followed and we could start calm and collected. Usually I do pressure and release, where I approach and fall back. Since Lyric probably never had someone approach without wanting something and successful fought all attempts off, I did something different to get her curious and redirect her brainflow. I stood at the opposite side of the pen and everytime she made a step towards me, I stepped away and kept space. As you can see in her facial expression it threw her off and she didn't quite know how to handle it.
Good for me it worked. After about 20 minutes she approached me and when she was just about to touch my hand i pulled away, opened the roundpen and let her out.
I didn't want her to touch just yet and leave her with not every contact means I want something. She was brave enough to come all the way beside me and I could have easily reached out for the touch. To not get into old behavior and get an successful outcome with her, I will not touch her for a few more sessions and wait until she feels at ease with my presence. While it is urgent to make progress I can't push it. Both ladies need vet attention and a farrier but even sedated to the fullest the vet was not able to touch them and
She is not a rescue horse. I was hanging out with one of our Arabians, that can't be touched or caught for bond, to bond and gain trust. This bundle of love walked over and laid down close to me, so I thought I enjoy the sun with her for a minute. She suddenly lays to the side and cuddles her head on me. She got back up, but because it was a special moment I want to have a memory of She kindly posed it 1 more time for the camera. This was so unexpected and made me so so happy. And just like that I am madly in love with this sugar snoot.
He had the big pasture for himself unrestricted for the first time. New places, much exploring to do, the entire herd to our right at the fence line, and he still felt like being my partner is worth it.

Meet Rebel, he is Lori's first rescue, she took him over due to the owner getting sick and unable to care for him. She had him for many years, but he makes 20+ look amazing. He spent the last years as a pasture buddy to his long time friends and was enjoying early retirement with his companions, so they can stay together. Due to unforseen circumstances we had to move him today, away from his little herd to a for him strange place after all this time. But since he is still full of energy and now at one of the 2 farms where we keep our animals until we purchase our own, we will start exercising him again and after a tune up and muscle gain he will enjoy some rides again and liberty work. He is in best health, and took his move better than we hoped. He met most of his new herd through the fence today, but we keep him in the paddock for a day or 2 to let them adjust before turning him out with the crowd. He is stunning and quite the personality. Yall will see more of him and his process. 🥰💞❤️

This was a training session to desensitize her and while flowers may be unconventional, so can be life. You never know what kind of moving, noisy things cross your path. I do this not just for people's safety but also to have a relaxed horse instead of a stressed one at all times.

The love she has for her animals goes beyond imagination. Being a part of this moment today at the hospital just showed again what an incredible strong and sacrificing woman she is, and how grateful rescues are to get this unconditional love.
