Another remedy for drought stricken cattle and other animals is available right now after sorghum harvest. The stubble can be baled for feeding cattle or if you have the sorghum pasture fenced in you can put your cattle on the stubbles after harvest do they can eat. This is a most underutilized form of nutrition especially during a drought like we have right now in Texas.

Remedy for drought stricken cattle and other animals.
During a previous drought my Grandfather and I went out in the pasture and used a torch on propane and burned the thorns on the PRICKLY PEAR CACTUS. This gives the cattle an opportunity to now eat the cactus that they normally would not touch. You must use extreme care not to ignite any grass near by and be prepared to extinguish any fires. The cactus is very nutritious and is obviously full of moisture. You will notice them following you and starting to eat it right away. When cattle are starving and can't find nutrition, there are old time remedies that can be used.
