Ready to meet the gentle giant of the cat fancy?

The Maine C**n Cat is a massive, broad chested cat with a long rectangular body and the fur is long and flowing. The males average around 12 to 15 pounds, with some going 20 pounds or more. The females are smaller, averaging 9 to 12 pounds. The head is medium in width and length with a squareness to the muzzle. They are known for a sturdy, rugged appearance, which includes an uneven, shaggy coat of three distinct lengths and a long, well furnished tail.

The Maine C**n Cat is a gentle, loyal breed. They make wonderful family pets and get along well with children and dogs. Depending on the breed of dog, the Maine C**n Cat can be bigger than Fido. They are a vocal breed, with a variety of meows, trills and chirps to make up their vocabularies. They are sociable and like to help their owners with any project, especially when the owner is reading or working on the crossword puzzle.

Just so you know part of why we are against declawing. It leads to terrible deformities in posture, causes arthritis, pain and behavioral issues.

The technical term for this flap of skin and fat, which often feels like a half-full water balloon, is the “primordial pouch,” and you can also observe this feature on some big cats like lions and tigers. This bit of loose skin and padding at the belly provides extra protection and insulation to your cat during fights when a cat’s practice of “bunny kicking” with the rear paws could result in severe abdominal injury to their opponent. In fact, cats have excess skin covering the entire body which helps them squirm out of the grasp of other predators.

Another function of the abdominal flap is to allow the cat freedom of movement to fully stretch and extend the back legs when in full stride. It’s also theorized that in our cats’ wild ancestors, the flap allowed the stomach to stretch to hold extra food when necessary, such as when gorging after a large kill in the wild.

While this pouch is part of your cats anatomy, you still want to make sure your fur baby maintains a healthy weight. 😉
