Obie Dog's Journey

Obie Dog's Journey Obie lost 50lbs in one year and has maintained a 54lb weight loss since fall 2013. This perception must change. Thank you, Nora and Obie

Obie is a standard Dachshund who was rescued as an extremely obese dog, at 77 pounds which is almost three times his ideal weight. He was the product of misguided love and over feeding that was not recognized as an issue until it was almost too late. Obie is an extreme example of obesity but 54% of the nation's pets are overweight and so are 2/3 of Americans. The problem is that people are no long

er recognizing what an overweight pet looks like. Some of the common weight-related conditions in dogs and cats include osteoarthritis, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, breathing problems, kidney disease, and shortened life expectancy. Obesity affects all of the body's systems negatively. Obie's 54 pound weight loss success was the product of a simple common-sense approach fostered by a loving environment including two fur brothers and veterinary care. It took almost one year for him to lose the weight safely and was compounded by skin infections and subsequent skin reconstruction surgery. Obie is a fighter and his unique personality has inspired people all over the world. He is bringing awareness to obesity, rescuing, and spay & neuter campaigns. He is a natural around people and has proven to be an effective ambassador. My degree in Animal Science from Colorado State University and 20 years experience as a certified veterinary technician have given me the tools to help him and others. Please contact me if interested in pet care consulting services including, weight loss, surgery rehabilitation, hospice care, or to network animals in need. I feel tremendously blessed to be involved in his rehabilitation and I am amazed at the outpouring of love and support that I have received. Thank you to those who have helped and supported us along the way.
