Half pass: The art of pushing FORWARD while crossing the diagonal pairs. Demonstrated here by two top athletes! Barbie Aplundh’s Gorgeous and my very own Frankie. Focus on the energy from the outside hind leg pushing through the horse’s rib cage to lift and extend the inside foreleg. Most common error—rider’s outside leg too far back and weight shifting to the outside. Always keep your weight going in the direction you want your horse to go. After creating the bend and flexion you need for half pass (less is more), think of riding the shoulders to the letter with your outside leg. Keep the horse in front of your inner leg and seat! Look at the second photo to understand how much power is required from the hindquarters to make this movement expressive. Time+Strength+Balance = Elasticity and Agility! RINGCRAFT: The art of using the geometry of a rectangle to create balance, impulsion, self carriage, flow, rhythm and skeletal alignment. Use 2 corners and the short side in between to set up the movement which follows. Corner 1: create upward, forward balance.
Short side: ride forward to a half halt which redistributes balance to the hind legs.
Corner 2: Add flexion and bend appropriate for the movement which follows. Check your flow, ride from behind. Enjoy. For more tips on RINGCRAFT, follow my account
