We drew 14 gun dogs for this event and everyone had a blast! I do think I'll move the date back next year. At least until after woodcock closes😎

The Amateur Gun Dog at Powhtan Field Trial Club drew 14 dogs with many breeds and represented. GWP’s, Brittanys, Pointers, Setters(two UK imports) and Weimeraners. Amateur Gun Dog stakes are a great starting point for bird hunters and those newer to field trials. Thanks for hosting this opportunity, Dennis!

Rule #1 Have FUN!!!
Thanks for all the interest in this event.
I’m getting lots of questions about rules so here are the basics. The gundog division of US Complete is for the average hunting dog. Judgement stops at the flush. So basically if you can get in front of your dog to flush the bird you are golden. Steady to wing and shot is not required.
You will fire a blank pistol.
Tracking collars without the electric prongs can be used. The judge will hold your handheld until the end of your 30 minutes unless you request it and if you choose to request it your dog is no longer being judged.
Those are the basics. The website uscsda.org is currently under reconstruction.

I just got PennyMac back in for more training. We just had a little remember each other run this morning. She handled nicely and punches hard. I really like this dog.

This is Lincoln just having some fun. He came here to be steadied which is coming along great. Sometimes though we just need to run around. I’ll post later some pointing pictures. This dog has a happy snappy/classy running style, handles nicely stays up front(with a little help) and looks great on point. His natural range makes him a comfortable dog to hunt with. This is the type of dog that makes a trainer look good😎
