Due to the shelter staying at over capacity with a waiting list of 80 people waiting to bring multiple animals in, due to rescues staying full and not pulling and due to adoptions being at an all time low basically halted and the stray population in Floyd county being out of control and continuously getting worse..
We come to you with heavy hearts to announce that the Floyd County Animal Shelter will have to start euthanizing animals for space until the issues gets semi-resolved.
Please do not call/comment negative comments or threats towards us as we have done everything in our power to avoid this.. This is the absolute last thing we want to see happen to any innocent animal, however this is now out of our hands..
We have screamed, we have preached and we have prayed that people will open their eyes and get their animals altered, we have handed out brochures for low cost spay/neuter clinics. we have shared educational posts, we have done everything humanely possible other than just taking your animals and spaying them ourselves which trust us if we had the funding we would.
Innocent animals will die because irresponsible people simply don’t care. To the people who say “I just want her to have 1 litter!” Or “I love my cat I want 6 more of her, so she needs to have babies” to the backyard breeders who swear “I’ll find them all good responsibly homes!” To the people who give up their senior animals at the time they need you most. To the people who abandon their family when times get rough. Shame on you..
This year (past 7 months) has been the absolute worst year of heart brake and anger between all the intakes on puppies, kittens, pregnant animals, neglected animals, beaten and scared animals, etc. being in this line of work you have to expect some tough days but tough months are exhausting. We are tired, we are angry and we are ALL at a braking point.
We want to apologize to all the people on our list who have been waiting for months to bring animals in, we are working non stop to try and get room but it’s not good enough. We get threats daily, we’ve been cussed at we’ve been threatened and we’ve had stuff thrown at us. So we are sorry. But please do not blame us for this..
We know our adoption prices is higher than most shelters, but we have less funding and we promise you that any animal you adopt will be healthy, happy and full of love. If you’ve been considering adding a member to your family now is the time.. if you can’t adopt sponsor an animal help a family be united. If you can’t sponsor share their picture and story, we know they have a family out there somewhere they just need help finding each other..
Our adoption fees are as follows..
Dog- $130
Vetting includes:
•spay/neuter
•heart-worm test
•age appropriate vaccines
•rabies vaccine
•3 day deworming
•groomed
•ear cleaning
•flea and tick prevention
•nail trim
Cats- $100
Vetting includes:
•spay/neuter
•age appropriate vaccines
•rabies vaccine
•3 day deworming
•groomed
•ear cleaning
•flea and tick prevention
•nail trim
We also offer microchipping for an additional $25
We do have small requirements to be approved for adoption such as the following..
•any animal currently in the home has to be altered and UTD on vaccinations
•if lookin for an outdoor dog, you must have a secure fenced in area with adequate shelter (majority of dogs will wonder that’s how they got here..)
Before we get the comment “just give them away for free” we would love to do that, but that will make the population worse. We HAVE to insure these pets are spayed and neutered and vetting isn’t free..
so for the love of god people please be part of the solution and not the problem, spay and neuter your pets!!!
