Sweet Nala (formerly Tator Tot) is looking for a foster home through Ruff Start Rescue 💕

This gorgeous 10-month-old Pit/Shepherd mix was adopted as a puppy just 7 months ago, but her boundless energy has proven to be a bit too much for her family. They love her dearly and want to see her thrive in a home that can keep up with her playful spirit!

🏃‍♀️ Nala would love an active family or a doggy playmate to match her enthusiasm. She’s still young, so she’s learning manners — that means she can be a little mouthy and jumpy when excited, but with patience and consistency, she’ll shine.

👧 Best with older kids who can handle her zoomies

💛 Foster Needed for BunBun & Ramseys! 💛

Meet BunBun and Ramseys — two adorable brothers who were born in rescue and adopted in 2023. They’ve had a loving home, but due to a lack of time and attention, they’re now looking for a new place to land.

🐰 BunBun is the brave explorer of the pair — curious, social, and always ready to see what’s around the corner.
🐰 Ramseys is a bit more shy and reserved, but with patience and gentle care, he opens up beautifully.

These sweet boys are great with kids of all ages, already altered, and currently located in Duluth, MN — but their owner is happy to help with transport to the right foster home.

💛 FOSTER NEEDED FOR LUCKY! 💛

Meet Lucky, a 10-month-old shepherd-collie mix with the sweetest spirit and the most beautiful eyes. 🐶💫

This little survivor was found abandoned on a construction site in South Dakota, but despite everything, she’s still full of love and hope. At about 38 lbs, Lucky is a gentle, friendly girl who gets along well with adults, men, women, other dogs, and even cats (with slow introductions).

Lucky loves to explore — sometimes a little too much! She’ll need to stay leashed outdoors so her adventurous heart doesn’t wander off. She’s still learning the ropes with potty training, but with patience and consistency, she’ll catch on quickly.

She’s been around a toddler and, while she sometimes gets excited and jumps, she’s truly a sweet and affectionate pup who just wants attention and love. 💕

Right now, Lucky is being kept in a garage and outdoor kennel, and she deserves the warmth and comfort of a real home while she waits for her forever family.

🍫 FOSTER NEEDED for Milk Dud! 🍫
📍 Located in St. Paul, MN

Meet Milk Dud — a 2-year-old goofball with milk duds in her brain 🤣 and enough energy to power a small city!

This girl is a parkour master 🧗‍♀️, a professional ball chaser 🎾, and a certified goof who’ll keep you laughing every single day. She’s got a huge zest for life and would love a foster who’s ready to run, hike, and play — and maybe end the day with a pup cup or two. ☕🐾

🐶 The rundown on Milk Dud:
• 💥 Super high-energy — needs lots of exercise and playtime!
• 🐕 Dog-social, especially with the boys (she tolerated some bold smooches from a pittie during her dog test 😆)
• 🚫 No info on cats yet
• 👧 Not ideal for small kids — she’ll bowl them over like pins when she’s excited!
• 🩺 Needs full vetting while in foster care

Meet Axel, a 1.5-year-old bundle of energy and love who’s looking for a foster home to crash in while he waits for his forever family! 💛

🐾 About Axel:
• ⚡ Super playful and fast! – fetch is his favorite game
• 🐶 Dog-friendly – loves tug-of-war and zoomies with canine pals
• 💕 Cuddly and sweet – carries his favorite stuffy everywhere
• 🎯 Excellent recall – he listens and loves to stay engaged
• 🐱 Curious about cats but not a match for homes with cats or small animals
• 🚫 Not suited for homes with livestock (he’s had some mischief with chickens and turkeys!)

Axel thrives in an active, structured environment with a foster who enjoys outdoor adventures and playtime. He’s not neutered yet and will need standard vetting while in foster care — but Ruff Start Rescue provides all food, supplies, vet care, and full support! 🙌

Have you always wondered about fostering animals OR what if you have been thinking about adopting but scared to take the next step?
What would be better than signing up for our foster to adopt program? You get to test drive the animal that you choose to make sure it will be a good fit before committing. After submitting your sign up to foster form, you watch a video on fostering with Ruff Start and then are added to our closed FB group that shows all the animals in need. There is no pressure, you decide when you are ready and with the animals you choose!

We always have a variety of cats/kittens, puppies/dogs, critters that need a foster and new home for one reason or another.

We need Temporary Fosters! It is a great way to get involved without a long term commitment.
Temporary Fosters are able to choose the animal and time-frame that works best for their schedule!

Ruff Start will cover all supply and vetting costs, foster homes just need to provide love!

At Ruff Start Rescue we strongly believe that a home is many pets’ ideal environment. Foster homes are critical to the success of our rescue mission – fosters house our adoptable animals and enable us to continue our lifesaving efforts!
Ruff Start does NOT have a shelter. We have over 400 animals in foster homes at any given time throughout central MN. However, we need more!
