Something to ponder….🐶🐶🐶❤️🌹

I love dachshunds. When the first one ‘accidentally’ joined our family in 2005, I had no idea how that one dog would change my life. Over the years, one changed into 2, then 3, then 4. You dachshund lovers out there will get this. Whoever developed the Lays Potato Chip slogan must have been eating one when looking at their dachshund and thought “you can’t have just one…” 🤣

These beautiful creatures, angels with fur is what I call them, have stolen my heart. So fast forward almost 20 years and I find myself up to my eyeballs in dachshunds and loving every minute of it. I love it when the puppies come. It’s like a tiny miracle that I get to witness and even help make happen. Yet, this craft - and this is truly something you have to work hard at to do well - raising these 🐶 because I have learned there is a lot more to it than just having two 🐶🐶 and letting nature do its thing. There is a lot to learn and it involves a lot of hard work and devotion. Those of us who have chosen this path are warriors of a different kind and I have a healthy dose of respect for those of my peers who also do this.

The goal, to better the breed - which is a big part of any responsible program - is hard and getting harder every day. The costs to get into this and to obtain quality 🐶 are quite high. Then there is genetic testing, health testing, not to mention vet bills and food and supplies like blankets, cozy beds, and who can have dachshunds without a boat load of treats? People wonder why the adoption fees for the 🐶 are going up. It’s because to do this right you have to have the right tools and these are expensive. For example, just recently Lily had some complications and required an emergency C-section to help deliver a pup and the cost was 6k. Yes, I said six thousand dollars. It was shocking and I had to take a deep breath when I pulled out that Care Credit Card (thank God for them) and I quietly considered how long it would take to get that paid off…

So when you contact a reputable 🐶 person, and they give you a number close to what you paid for your last vacation, please keep in mind that to do what we are doing, and trying to help people have wonderful companions, is becoming harder and harder for many of us to continue doing. Thank goodness I have a day job and at night I get to be Rose, warrior goddess of the dachshunds 🤣❤️🐶🌹

Lepto is a controversial vaccine for dachshunds. Always do your research to make an informed decision regarding the risk vs benefit of this particular vaccine before giving it to your dog. I personally do not give this one on the advice of my vet who has seen a lot of adverse affects from this in dachshunds especially.

The Treidlia Auslepto vaccine, used to protect dogs against a strain of the bacterial disease leptospirosis, has been withdrawn from sale by the manufacturer after “adverse reactions”, including the death of one animal.

I often get the question, “What do you feed your dachshunds?”

Well…

Usually it’s Purina One Smartblend but today momma is home so it’s chicken breast, carrots, rice, and peas. They love it! Great treat for your doxie from time to time.❤️🐶🌹
