Dachshund Training 101
On Facebook recently, someone asked for recommendations for books on how to train a dachshund. I wanted to share my response as I get the training question quite often and thought it might be helpful for some of you.
“I purchased a three part book series on Amazon, Dachshund Training…. They now sit on the shelf collecting dust and I feel like the author is now happily spending my money without delivering the real message which is - You can’t train a dachshund- they train you. There are some basic principles, a Dachshund 101 if you will, that you should know. They won’t go out in the rain but will happily dance through the snow (mine will at least), they know more than you do and will c**k their heads in defiance if you say something they don’t agree with. Mine tell me when to go to bed (literally, at 9:30 they stand at the bedroom door and look at me until I comply) and they tell me when to get up. They have sensitive backs and you have to handle them with care. They bark - at everything, even the wind or nothing at all. And they will p**p 💩 where they want to, end of story. In exchange for this little unruly, often full blown holy terror, they will love you like none other, steal your heart, and wrap you completely around their little paw. You wont find a better “snuggler” under the covers on a cold winter night. It’s definitely not a journey for the faint of heart. But the most wonderful part of my life journey so far. ❤️🐶”
