Meet Big Bird - a beautiful, energetic 25 year old Goffin's Cockatoo. Big Bird is a bit bashful at first, but when you get to know him you'll see that personality come out! Big Bird has a lot to say and especially loves to greet the people he knows. Cockatoos are pretty special, so Big Bird would be happiest in a home with someone who has experience with large exotic birds. MOOSE (5-Year-old Neutered Male, 89 Pounds)

Background: Moose and Mia, formerly Zeus and Zia,  came to Lab Rescue via Susanville after a livestock rescue volunteer was alerted about 2 dogs left abandoned in a backyard. The volunteer was able to reach their owner who had relocated and told her to "just shoot them." She made a daily trip to feed/water these 2 for weeks while she searched for rescue and was connected to one of GGLRR's fosters. Long story short, a village banded together to rescue them (livestock rescue volunteer, vet, boarding facility in Susanville, volunteer pilot, GGLRR). Sadly, we had to euthanize Mia at the end of October as she stopped eating. An emergency trip to the vet revealed she had a mass, likely cancerous, and inoperable. 

From Moose's Foster:  Moose is a sweet, smart goofy guy.  Has great house manners, walks nicely on leash, sleeps well through the night, loves to meet/hang out with people.   He loves to chase 2 tennis balls at the same time so he can bring them both back in the same mouthful.  Moose is deaf.  I’ve been teaching him hand signals.  

Moose is a wonderful fella, easy to live with.  His ideal situation would be an active home with another dog from whom to pick up cues.  For anyone who wants to do a deep dive about deaf dogs, check out “ The Complete Guide to Owning a Deaf Dog” by Amanda Bradley.  Moose also comes with an in-person training session with me.  

From Moose's Rescue Rep:  Moose is a loving, resilient dog. Having been abandoned, he needs a home where he will be a cherished member of the family. Moose exhibits the lovable Lab qualities of sweetness, a laid-back nature.  We think Moose would do best in a home with another canine sibling. Mia was older than Moose but provided calm guidance. Cats unknown.

Medical: Neutered, chipped, updated on vax. Heartworm/fecal tested (neg). On flea/tick/heartworm preventative. Appears to have hearing loss.

Just look at this angel! This adorable, smiling sweetie is Dexter. He is a 4 year old Bernese Mountain Dog / Poodle mix with tons of fun energy to burn. Dexter is a very smart, very bouncy guy, and he loves to run and play. Dexter would love to have a new forever family that is active and can keep up with his dynamic and spirited personality. You just have to meet him! He's waiting at the SPCA!

This is really bad. If you give peanut butter to your dogs in kongs etc PLEASE check the label. Xylitol is very toxic to dogs.

This boy needs a foster or adopter asap or he will eventually be put down due to kennel stress. I cannot foster straight out of the shelter because I have to protect my dogs as well as my client dogs from the risk of kennel cough. Please if anyone has a soft spot for this dude to come out of the stress then his personality would come out!

Struggling Dog Needs Help!

Hello Friends!

We need your help! We have a dog here named Duke who came to us as a stray. Sadly, Duke is having a hard time in the shelter environment and is desperately needing out. Duke spends his day looking for his family and wondering when will they come for him….We aren’t able to enrich Duke’s life here in the shelter environment, despite our best efforts.

We have heard from his previous family that they had to rehome him when they moved out of the area. They also tell us that he has lived well with kids and loves them and two small dogs. They also said he loves to play fetch and is super smart! Duke’s stress level does not allow him to show his happy boy side! It’s truly heartbreaking! Duke needs all of us to rally for him to get him back to his happy dog days!

We are hoping there is a rescue or adopter out there that would consider Duke! Please feel free to stop by our adoption center and inquire about him.
