It’s been a looong time since we’ve posted some informational cases. Below are before and after photos of severe dermatitis (skin infection) caused by atopy. Atopy (at-toe-pea) is an exaggerated response of the immune system by an allergen (Al-er-jun). Allergens may be ingested, inhaled or come in contact with the skin. Atopy aka allergic dermatitis can be mild to severe. Many cases take several weeks to months to completely resolve. Atopy has no cure but can be managed under the direction of your veterinarian. Please contact your veterinarian if your pets is struggling with allergies!

If you notice a large swelling under the right or the left eye on your dog there’s a good chance that there’s an abscess in one of the major upper chewing molars. The abscess that forms at the tip of the root has no place to go except erode the facial bone create an abscess then rupture and drain. The only way to fix this is to remove the tooth! Antibiotics are only going to mask the infection and it will inevitably come back!

December 15 is the last clinic day for St Martin’s. January dates have yet to be determined. I am sorry for the last-minute notice and any inconvenience this may cause.
