** KITTEN CAM ** Who doesn't love something sweet after the big Thanksgiving weekend?!? And oh man, do we have a batch of the sweetest turkey day themed kittens to show you!

On today's kitten cam we have Maple, Pumpkin, Cranberry, Honey and Biscuits. They came into our shelter as newborns back in early October, were lovingly cared for by one of our volunteer fosters, and are now back in the shelter awaiting their spay/neuter appointments to get them ready for adoption.

Are you looking for a special Christmas kitty to join your family? We will open for cat and kitten adoptions starting on Tuesday December 2 at 11 a.m. We would love to have you come visit all of our special pets that are looking for a forever family!

** KITTEN CAM ** While our shelter is taking a very short pause on cat and kitten adoptions, we wanted to share with all of you a little peek at one of our newest - and best! - mamas in the shelter. So far all of our cats are non-symptomatic and testing negative; we are very hopeful that the virus detected in a kitten last week was an isolated case. Fingers crossed!

While cat adoptions are on a temporary pause, we are most definitely still doing dog adoptions. And oh boy, do we have a bunch of cute new pups that just came up for adoption.

Big dogs, little dogs, fluffy dogs, snuggly dogs, happy dogs, friendly dogs... yep, we have got them all here waiting for you!

Yesterday afternoon our shelter was notified that one of our kittens tested positive for a virus that can be highly contagious amongst cats and kittens. Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to immediately pause all cat intakes and cat adoptions for up to 10 days. That means that our shelter will not be able to take in any cats or kittens during this period (strays or owner surrenders), in order to ensure that we are taking all reasonable precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.

Here’s the good news… we have not observed any other symptomatic kittens or cats, none of our other cats or kittens have tested positive, and our staff and volunteers will be making sure that during this quarantine period that our furry friends know they are extra loved and cared for. We will continue to observe and test, and may adjust the quarantine timeline accordingly.

The other good news is that this is a feline virus, so our dogs and puppies are not impacted by the cat quarantine; we are still able to take in lost stray dogs, and you are still able to visit our shelter and adopt our amazing dogs.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this temporary pause in cat intakes and adoptions. We appreciate your support!

According to a recent poll of our shelter dogs, here are the top 5 reasons why you should buy a pet license:

#1 - “It makes me look cool"

#2 - “It helps animal control officer know where my family lives if I get lost"

#3 - “I like that jingly noise it makes when I do my zoomies"

#4 - “It helps provide animal control officers to rescue me if I'm hurt or lost"

#5 - “It helps to provide for a safe place for lost pets to stay until they are reunited with their families"

And these pups are right - it significantly helps us to protect your pet and looks super cool! Not only is a pet license required in the municipal codes of the 7 cities we serve, it is also the right thing to do.
