I can't believe my eyes, I must be dreaming.
Our last kennel for the contest comes all the from the town of
Halloween. Rex is certainly dreaming of a home for the holidays. He’s
a fan of all things spooky and festive. The eerie charm of Halloween
meets the cozy joy of Christmas. Rex definitely knows somewhere deep
inside of his bones an emptiness grows for the home he longs for. The
sights, the sounds. He wants it for his own, he's got to know. What is
this place that he has found?
Rex came to LCR in February of 2022 , this will be his third holiday
season with us.

Walking in a winter wonderland
Our next entry comes from Aspen in her snowy forest. Aspen is an adventurous pup who’s ready to take on the winter wonderland! 🌲With frosted trees, sparkling snowflakes, and soft, snowy vibes she has a peaceful, frosty hideaway where she can curl up and dream of snowy adventures with you.❄️ If you're looking for a pup who loves the winter magic as much as you do, Aspen is ready to share her snowy forest with you! Come meet this sweet girl, and maybe take a little winter magic home with you.

Together We Advocate...
For those without a voice, for those who need one more chance. Aspen is one of more than a dozen dogs we have treated for heartworm in 2024. A terrible disease that is easily preventable, but expensive to treat. Each year we knowingly accept dogs that require the extensive 120 treatment protocol to restore their health. We advocate for the animals that are discharged for conditions that can be treated and just need someone to give them a chance to thrive.

Together We Rehabilitate...
Zeus is a yearling Percheron draft horse who was rescued from auction in June. He was likely dropped off there because of some confirmation abnormalities and injuries. Since his arrival, this big guy has required extensive orthopedic rehabilitation due to his injuries. It has been a slow process, but he is doing well with his rehabilitation, gaining much needed weight, and growing like a weed! We are unsure what the future may hold for this big guy, it is likely that he is going to be unrideable, but we are happy he is safe and recovering from his past trauma.

Together We Heal...
Broken bones and broken spirits. Birdie is a sweet shepherd mix puppy who came to us when he was only four months old. Shortly before arriving to our rescue Birdie sustained an injury to his right hind leg. We took him to an orthopedic surgeon at Valley Central Emergency Vet who was able to fully restore his ability to use that leg! Birdie's unexpected leg surgery cost $5,820.82! Thankfully donors were able to support the care that Birdie needed at that time.

Together We Rise Above...
Leah arrived several hundred pounds underweight after being rescued from a neglectful situation in July. As we started her rehabilitation process, she unexpected colicked after receiving proper dental care (essentially restoring her ability to eat hay...a little too enthusiatically). Luckily, it was a mild colic that she was able to work her way through after a short stay at the veterinary clinic. Since that time she has been vaccinated, treated for ulcers, and has gained almost 200 pounds! This girl still needs another 100 pounds of weight or more, but at 28 years old she is slowly regaining her former self.

Together We Lend a Hand...
We received an urgent call in July about nearly a dozen sheep that needed assistance. Unfortunately their owners were unable to properly care for them for several years, leading to significant wool growth. Immediately upon arrival to LCR we assessed the situation and scheduled our sheep shearer. Carefully, they removed years of neglect to free the sheep imprisoned by their own bodies.

Together We Overcome...
Tahoe and his brother Yukon were rescued from Georgia in March. Tahoe arrived scared and sick... his sickness quickly worsened to a severe upper respiratory infection with pneumonia. This scared little guy needed to be hospitalized immediately to receive the care he needed to overcome his sickness. After a week at the emergency vet hospital, one of our dedicated volunteers offered him a quiet place to heal. He started to come out of his shell and demonstrate his loveable nature. Tahoe is still very scared of new situations and people but thrives with the companionship of other dogs. His emergency medical care cost almost $5,000!

Together We Persevere...
Pia, one of our resident ambassadors, almost died in January. She presented signs of colic one evening and was immediately hospitalized. The vet said the only way to save her was surgery. She was able to receive surgery because our supporters immediately sprang to action, raising over $8,000 for her medical care! Pia recovered with the help of a foster home and has been doing well ever since!
