It’s been a while since I’ve done an update on baby Zeke! But he is doing amazing!!! He has officially started with a trainer on ground manners since he was an orphan and was never allowed the opportunity to learn proper behaviors from a horse. He’s doing great with his ferrier work. He really is just living his best life finally being able to be a regular horse. He came out of stall confinement last month from his surgery and now gets to just be a normal, growing baby boy! He will be a whole year old next month!!! Can you believe it???

Baby Zeke is growing up!

Baby Zeke is back home from the hospital! What a relief this is all over with! Now he has to remain stall bound for 8 weeks to allow for his abdominal walls to fully recover before he goes back to his baby play.

On another note, he is officially in a big boy stall with all of his horsey friends now. He was able to graduate from the dog run to the ranch! 🙌🏼

Okay prayer warriors, Baby Zeke needs prayers! He has one more big hurdle to get over. We just dropped him off at the hospital for his hernia surgery and castration. He did so good following me right into the trailer, walked around the hospital facility with me with no problem. My boy is soooo trusting in his mommy, it melts my heart. This is his first time off the property since coming home.

Prayers for a safe surgery and quick recovery baby boy! We all love you so much!

Baby Zeke had his 3rd trim today! He sure is a growing boy!

The vet came out last week for his 2nd series of his baby shots and confirmed that he does in fact need to have his hernia surgery. Therefore, we will be booking that soon. I will keep all you prayer warriors informed once I have details.

Oh my…now I’m crying!! I have always felt my rescue horses rescued me! I’ve rescued so many horses (well animals in general for that matter) and it never ceases to amaze me how much love, happiness and security an animal can provide to you! I really do believe animals know what we need for them to do for us which is exactly what they need in return from us, but they will never ask for it!

Today I adopted a human...

It broke my heart to see her so alone, walking silent from pen to pen, eyes downcast, hands in her pocket, feet shuffling like she was lame. She looked defeated. So I gathered my strength, picked up my tired hooves with all my might and went after her, following her along the fence line. Finally, she felt my breath on her arm and stopped, she turned and pet my muzzle. For the first time I saw some spark in her eyes. Her tears flowed silently down her cheeks, but as she stroked my mane, slowly the corners of her mouth turned up. I wasn’t sure what it meant but I took it as a human whinny. I silently nudged her hand and looked at her, my heart telling her, she was now mine. I would adopt her and love her and keep her heart safe. My mane would dry her tears, my nickers warm her heart and my gallop bring her smiles.

Today I adopted a human. I’m so lucky.

It’s been a while since doing an update, but baby Zeke is doing amazing!!! He was finally strong enough to get his first set of vaccines and is right on schedule for what a normal 6 month old c**t should be! Yes, can you believe it?!? 6 MONTHS OLD!!!

He just got his bed all made again since it got wet last night in the storm! 5 new bags of shavings for the Prince!

He goes out every day with his horsey friends and plays and plays! He’s a blast to watch and dreamy to look at!

Baby Zeke had his second hoof trim today. His ferrier saw some rings that are most likely from all the medications he had in his little body or he may have tried to founder. However, he looks good now but we will of course continue to monitor to ensure he does not founder on us.

On another note, look at how much growth has taken place in 8 weeks! Baby Zeke is growing up!

We were off loading hay out of our horse trailer yesterday while baby Zeke was hanging out with us, since he’s our “puppy horse”. He looked inside, saw that I was in there cleaning it out, jumped right in with me, relieved himself, then turned around and hopped right out! I love how much he trusts me, how confident he is and how easy it seams to be to introduce him to new things! I sure have a special boy!

Baby Zeke achieved yet another milestone!! He is officially off of his milk replacer pellets! Zeke is now almost 5 months old and eating like an ever bigger boy than he was already! He’s not very excited about being off his Mare’s Match, however we have reintroduced alfalfa back into his diet, which he is very excited about!

His bodyguards are making sure he has enough to eat!! Lol

He now gets all you can eat Bermuda, 3 lbs of Mare & Foal 2 x’s a day, and an extremely large 2 handfuls of alfalfa 2 x’s a day. He is still on his probiotics but completely off of everything else! He eats a ton for a little guy, but I think he looks great, and I feel he is going to be one very large boy once he fully matures!

This boy sure was built to the nines!!! He has perfect confirmation, and an amazing build on him! He was bred with a purpose, and God clearly has plans for him!

Baby Zeke got to wear his new blanket for the first time! It was cold last night, but he was nice and cozy and took the blanket so nicely! I guess it’s fair to say the desensitizing paid off!

Baby Zeke had a fun day today! Playing with his friends, killing it on his first time standing tied, and hanging out with dad while he was building the turkey coop!

Well, today is the day! After our horrible monsoons over the weekend, it allowed for the temperature to lower outside which makes for any easier transition to move to the outside for Zeke. Therefore, after much deliberation, due to his body not being able to regulate itself prior and he’s been in a temperature controlled environment all this time, his body has never needed to learn how to regulate itself.

Therefore, it was going to involve him needing a in and out stall which I do not have. We were thinking about building him a room inside of his stall outside, but then decided might as well use the dog run. This way he has some pretty good wind breaks, he’s close to my bedroom to hear him should he start coughing and it’s just a good in between while he acclimates to being outside all day and night.

His temperature threshold is 50°, so he got two new blankets today. One that’ll fit him now and one that’ll fit him in about two months. He gained 120 pounds in the last month! yay!

He will go out during the day and be with the horses while we are out there with him, so he will get the best of both worlds! Zeke is officially an outdoor horse!!!! Woohoo!!!!

Well, I’m happy (happy is an understatement) to announce that baby Zeke is finally and officially off of his medications! After lots of doctors, specialists and radiographers viewed and studied his X-rays taken 2 weeks ago, they have all concurred that what they are seeing in his lungs is all scar tissue and no more infection!!! Yay!!! He did it!!! He pulled through!

So, we just now have to slowly acclimate him to the still hot, humid days so he can become an outside horse all while watching him closely to make sure he does not relapse.

Therefore, prayers he gets through this transition smoothly and doesn’t get super mad at me for taking him away from the AC and super cozy bathroom horse stall!!! Lol

It’s crazy to think this much change could take place in 2 months and 3 days for baby Zeke’s little body!!

I’m still waiting for Zeke’s medical team to give me the “actual” results from yesterday’s chest X-ray’s. However, in the meantime, I can say we saw pretty darn good improvements! The unfortunate part of it is that it’s hard to tell the difference between scar tissue and inflammation. There’s still a lot in his chest that you can see, but how much of it is pneumonia? That’s what I’m waiting to hear.

I’d love to hear that he can come off of his medications and move outside with his friends and start his new life as a normal, almost 4 month old c**t!

Baby Zeke is getting big for the bathroom! Please say prayers that his chest X-rays go well for him tomorrow!! This is going to determine whether or not we can reduce his medications, get rid of them all together, if he can start to go outside during the day, etc. tomorrow is a big day for baby Zeke!

We did have a slight hiccup with his food intake and how his body was digesting it. So, we had to completely change up his feeding schedule because he grew so fast that it was affecting his growth plates. We were afraid of him foundering. we are already seeing improvements and I think we are going to be okay but we are not in the clear of that yet.

Other than that, Zeke has been doing great! No coughing or wheezing at all in the last couple of weeks. So I have high hopes for the results of tomorrow’s x-rays! He has been sleeping outside all night (when we don’t have monsoons) but he is of course right outside my bedroom door with the porch light on all night. I do get up and check on him a couple times a night, but he’s usually sleeping in the grass or talking to his friends through the gate. All my horses get turned out at night to stretch and play! He loves hanging with the big kids!!
