I don’t use this account anymore because I no longer live in Quimby. BUT this should be screamed from the rooftops!! This dog deserved better!
I wanted to give an update on the Quimby dog. First thing this morning, I got In touch with Derek with the Cherokee county sheriffs department. Derek is the Sheriff that has been overseeing this case. He said the dog was in real bad shape when he seen it last night at 5 o’clock and he couldn’t use his front legs. Derek also said that nobody had contacted him looking for this dog. Kudos to the people that got this guy out of the ditch and called for help. I let him know that we would like to give the dog every chance possible to survive. He was tickled at the offer. He even offered to have one of his deputies (Zach Wingert) make the hour drive here to Sioux City so the dog could receive the medical attention that is needed. I have named the dog, Derek.
This is where the story goes south. The dog arrived here in Sioux City this AM. Dr. Saulsbury and staff were ready for when Zach arrived with Derek. The bad news is Derek was shot in his front leg days ago. He is now septic, and his chances of surviving are very slim. Dr. Saulsbury said he has infection throughout his body and is hanging on by a thread. They have him on antibiotics, two pain meds, and IVs. Dr. Saulsbury said there are two holes one where the bullet went in and another where it came out. There’s also bullet fragments up towards his shoulder.
He is giving him top-notch vet care. They are providing him with everything he needs to help save his life. Please help us fight with him. For days through the rain and snow not even being able to get food or water. He has fought alone to stay alive. It’s time we surround him with our love and help him with the fight. Welcome to our family.
