Hi everyone. I wanted to update you what's going on at the shelter.

I wanted to let you know that we've decided to close down the shelter. We didn't take this decision lightly. It won't be sudden because we've got to find somewhere for all these animals to go. We are shooting for at least 1-2 months. With that being said, INTAKE IS COMPLETELY CLOSED! WE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING ANY MORE ANIMALS.

We simply cannot continue fighting the fight in this current situation. We are putting more money into the maintenance, upkeep and bills than care of the animals. This building is too much and is wrong for what we need. It simply doesn't work for the situation. Our light bill alone runs $700 a month. We just had to add a second ac unit so there's no telling just how big the next bill will be. I don't even want to open the envelope.

We can't keep workers here. They either work a shift and never show back up, or don't show up at all. Because of the way we have to do things, it's too hard on people. It's hot, it's loud, nasty and it stinks. We have worked our few dedicated workers to the bone, and yet, we still cannot get everything done. They are exhausted.

We don't have enough help searching for grants, working social media, taking photos, attending supervisor and town meetings, holding events, fundraising, keeping the schedule up, and keeping everything on task. Our lives, our families, our jobs and our health have suffered, and we simply cannot keep going with just us three. I have begged on facebook numerous times for help. A few will offer to help, and some actually do, but most of the time its a one time thing or never at all. After six years of this, we are tired. Us three board members have never received a dime of pay for this as by law we aren't allowed to. We have volunteered 20-40 hours a week every week. We didn't do it for the money, but it is a full time job. Others simply don't want to dedicate many hours a week volunteering to keep this place going.

There is such an animal crisis that we cannot get help adopting these animals or enough rescue help to move them up north. I have spent countless hours up at all hours of the night reaching out to rescues. We've had dogs here for a year that came in when they were 5 weeks old. They are still here. Some have never had one person show any interest in them. What are we to do with that? We have to look at these pitiful faces looking through a kennel fence just wanted to be petted and loved. We have to sleep at night knowing they need to be euthanized, but its just too hard to do that because we feel WE failed them. I know in my head it wasn't us, it was their owners, but that doesn't help my heart. All this has taken a toll on my health and mental health.

I am reaching out to everyone I know in the industry to see if they can help, or put me in touch with your rescues - anything to help. And we have a lot! We currently have 56 dogs and 17 cats in our care. Eight of those dogs are going to a rescue.

I do want to thank each and every one of you who have volunteered, donated, adopted, give us discounts, run errands, worked, got this place up and running, cut our grass (which it needs it again right now) shared our posts, stood up for us, or anything else you have done for us. We are truly grateful for every way this community has supported us in 6 years. To Ashley Bentley and her crew at Clarke County Animal Clinic, they has done more for us than any of you could imagine. They have been right here with us every step of the way. I know sometimes she gets tired of seeing us pulling up in the driveway. We could not have done it without you all! There's so many I could thank, but I don't want to overlook someone.

Where do we go from here? I don't have an answer on that yet. We approached the Board of Supervisors and they WILL NOT take the responsibility of a county pound which is what is needed with full time help. Even though we tell them time and time again just how bad the problem is, they just don't realize - but they soon will. A one mil tax raise would help fund a county pound.

I just have to trust something excellent will come up in our next chapter. We aren't closing the book just yet - but rather stepping back, taking a breath, and finding change. We are praying a miracle will happen and we can get a proper shelter.

Please don't let this stop you from donating or volunteering. We still have to care for these babies until they are all gone. Please, if you are thinking about getting a new pet, please look in our animals for adoption folder and come adopt.

Thank you,
Jennifer Bozeman

I have some Very Great news about Bud. I wish that this Specialist had been present for Buds first consultation with the Vet.

So after Months of raising enough $ to cover the cost of his surgery we finally had a date set.
I get him there and this Wonderful Doggie Dental Specialist comes in named Dr. Scott.
He told me that he didn't want to do the intial surgery because it would cause more facial paralysis. My Heart sank for a second thinking we were back to square 1.
Dr. Scott started explaining to me that Bud still has options. He explained how a Dog's tooth Enamel works if the Body doesn't Produce it in the first place. This is part of Buds Challenges.
Dr. Scott explained that the Dogs Body will naturally put out a (correction) film that fills in the course porus portions of the teeth even with excessive plaque build up.
Dr. Scott put Bud through an Extensive Teeth Cleaning and discovered that Buds teeth have gone through that filming process.
I can't pronounce what that is called so I am not going to try.
Dr. Scott said that Bud is Resilient and is Very Smart and that if I just do Dental Cleanings every 4 months that his teeth could last for for quite a few years.
Well we have enough money raised for that to be possible for at least 2 years.

I want to Thank Every Single Person who Donated to make this Surgery happen that actually didn't need to happen. I am Eternally Grateful for the Support that our Community has Shown to Bud as he is Well Worth it.

Update: Bud Didn't get his name Balloons like I wanted. We opened up the B balloon an it was not a B. It was a C. So my friend Susan went back to DG to exchange it and was smart. She opened up the B balloon package to discover that ALL the B Balloons on the Shelf were C's.
We were Very Disappointed

Got these Balloons for Buds Fundraiser Event this Saturday at the Farmers Market in Quitman.
Got a helium tank so these babies will stand out.
Look for the Big Buds Name above my Shade tent and come check him out and possibly buy a Tshirt $25 to help with his Jaw Surgery to correct a birth defect. He has Overcome so much already learning how to be a dog while having vision and neurological challenges.
He is the Happiest Boy and would love to meet lots of new people.
There will be a Raffle for a Free Grooming as well $10 a ticket.
All Proceeds Go to this Handsome Gentleman.
He will be there helping me raise money for him
Come on over and meet this Sweet Boy.

Fur and hair. While these twos words are often used synonymously they are in fact very different from each other. Fur grows to a genetically predetermined length then stops. Hair on the other hand, grows until it naturally breaks or is trimmed with scissors or clippers.

Most domestic felines are fur bearing. This does not mean they all have the same length, each has their own length determined by genetics. However, there are breeds such as Persians and Himalayans whose coats do contain hair that naturally breaks.

There are various textures among hair bearing canines from the straight coat of a Yorkshire Terrier to the ever curly coat of a Poodle.

There is a huge variety of fur bearing canines. Some with very sleek coats such as the very popular French Bulldog to fur that is several inches long such as the German Shepherd Dog. Again, it's not the length that makes the determination.

Combination coats include those with fur in some areas and hair in others. This is not a reference to the mixed coats such as doodles and many other mixed breeds. Canine combination coats include breeds such as the Afghan Hound as well as both English and American Cocker Spaniels. Feline combination coats include the Maine C**n and the Norwegian Forest Cat.

Old Lady Maybree is such a Sweet Gal. The first time I groomed her, her Mama wanted to stay with her to make sure she would be ok.
Because of their bond I wasn't able to get pics.
When Maybree's Mama called for another appointment she was ok with leaving her with me for a couple of hours. She needed to see just how gentle I would be with her baby before she would trust me...
I got the seal of approval and so I was able to get pictures of this Sweet Old Lady Maybree.
She is Adorable and she lets me do what ever I need to do because I am gentle with her and I talk to her through each process.
Maybree's owner was told she is pure Yorkie.
Maybree has very curly hair which isn't a Yorkie trait. I believe that she may have poodle in her as well.
Her ears are Very hard to get to do the Yorkie Standout because I cut them straight and then she shakes her head and the curls come back and the longer hair on the top of her head that the owner requests doesn't quite lay right, but
She is old and more comfortable and that is what matters and she is so very cute.
Lol

Maxwell the 6 month old Maltese.
Maxwell has had 1 Grooming prior to me and it was just a cleaning up of the privates, feet and some around the face.
Maxwell is Probably the one of my Favorite Maltese puppy grooms that I have ever done.
He was for the most part cooperative even when it came to removing some matting. It's like he heard every word of encouragement and comfort that I said to him. I kept telling him "It's OK Baby, we are in this together. At one point when he was not liking the matt removal...
I took my hat off and started combing my hair and said " Look, I will do it to me too "
He looked at me like I was Crazy, But it worked.
He let me gently remove some brushable matting so I could leave his hair longer at the owners request.
Lots of Scissor work here because Maxwell didn't take kindly to the vibration of the clippers on his Face, legs and Chest.
That's ok because that's part of the process of learning.
In my Book he did Absolutely Amazing for his First Full Puppy Groom.

This is Aspen and She is Deaf. Aspen was Terrified of Everything when I first met her. Her Mama Betty Evans has been bringing her to me for Grooming so she gets used to more people.
Aspen and I have a special way of communication which took a little time. I don't use sign language. I use Touch Energy and Eye Contact.
In the Video you see her make eye contact with me when the dryer turns on and I give her the Calm Energy Touch that let's her know she is Safe.
I Groom A few Deaf Dogs and When a Dog is Deaf thier other senses are highly sensitive which means Grooming them sometimes can be a Challenge, But Ms. ASPEN Has Conquered her fears and I am so Very Proud of Her.
I talk to her as if she can here me...
That is All for Me... she hears me through my touch.

We get there and Right off the Bat Vet Techs are Fawning Over Him.
I take him into what I thought was a more Private part of the Lobby so I can fill out Paperwork for his Exam...
Apparently Bud Has this Magnetic Energy that just Draws Everyone to him to say hello.
Even though I am trying to fill out Paperwork I am right there with him letting him Relish in the Attention, but at the same time thinking to my self...
I hope that one of those other dogs that are waiting aren't in any distress while my Special Bud is Flirting and Stealing the Show.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I said to be nice because he isn't used to hands approaching his face that are not mine.
He doesn't see very well. He has never been mean.
