In 2017, Ghost became the official Ambassador Dog for the North Carolina USO-RDU organization. As an Ambassador for the USO, she participates in USO events that benefit our military & their families. She is such an intuitive creature and identifies immediately with autistic children and soldiers with PTSD. Ghost has become familiar with the military uniform and can pick her soldiers out of a crowd. She has also been active in American Legion Post 116’s Children & Youth Program for 3 years and is currently participating on a regular basis.
Being an ambassador for the breed with her participation in the AKC RDO days for the RTPGPC club for the past 3 years, providing an educational opportunity for the public, representing the Great Pyrenees breed in the breed parade, and representing the club has endeared her to us and our community.
Ghost is the foundation dog for the Pet Therapy Program developed at the NC Department of Justice in September 2017, where she continues to participate on a regular basis. In January of 2018, she had the Title of AKC “Therapy Dog” (THD) added to her accomplishments. Ghost participates in many Therapy Dog and Animal Assisted Therapy functions with children, disabled individuals, veterans, seniors, bereavements, hospice, college students, and corporate events (for stress management) on a regular basis. Ghost is also trained as a Mobility Service Dog.
At the 2018 “Great Pyrenees Club of America” National Convention, Ghost was awarded 2 Versatility Titles; Versatility Ambassador (VA), and Versatility Emissary, (VE). She was also awarded the title of Animal Assisted Therapies & Activities, (AATA).
At the 2019 “Great Pyrenees Club of America” National Convention, Ghost was awarded her Versatility Excellent (VX) and was presented with the prestigious “Thea Hynes Memorial Versatility Award”. The GPCA National Specialty Awards ceremony honors the Versatility title applicant who has accomplished the most varied Versatility title qualifications during the GPCA club year. Ghost was the 1st ever recipient of this national award.
