!!!!! IMPORTANT INFORMATION !!!!!!
Due to an outbreak of a highly contagious respiratory infection Strep zoo, that has already taken the lives of 3 dogs at the center, the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center will be closed to the public for the next 30 days to protect the health of the animals in the center. We know this is sudden but staff must stop the spread of this illness. We want to be clear this is NOT the canine flu.

As a result!
🚫 Adoptions of all pets are paused for the moment.
🚨 No animal surrenders or strays from the public. Anyone with an existing appointment to surrender a pet will be notified of their cancellation. If you find a lost pet animal control can still scan the animal for microchip information but cannot bring the animal to the center.
💉 The Rabies and Microchip Clinic on March 2 at the Southern Regional Center is cancelled.

Again we know this is sudden and hard to hear but we want to keep everyone updated. The staff at the center are working tirelessly to treat affected animals and prevent further spread. Our team is in communication with staff and will update everyone as changes occur. For now we ask you please keep the staff, volunteers, and animals in your thoughts.
