Daddy 🤣 has more@immediate meaning this week as someone on my other “reel” life called me OLD this week! The nerve! 🤣
Made me think about this old guy I had the pleasure of walking and getting to know…sweetest boy, little set in his ways, knew when he wanted to walk and when he didn’t. So we just went with the flow…and I learned from him. Didn’t care what I thought, knew what he wanted and needed, and did it his way 😁👍🐾 Something very secure and confident in that.

Hope everyone's holidays are off to a great start! Since I'm out walking a lot and always have dogs and pets on my mind, thought I'd share a couple things I've seen and a link on keeping pups happy and safe:

Been seeing a lot of evidence of chayotes in places I don't normally -- right on sidewalks, in medians on busy streets, from RSF to Solana Beach to Del Mar. Just a friendly reminder to keep a close eye on your dog, don't let small dogs get far ahead on retractable leashes, and be aware of early mornings and evenings...even right in your backyard (heard a number of sad stories recently).

The other day I started our walk with two of my fave girls and the one just wasn’t feeling it! We got to the trail and hit a patch of sun and all she wanted to do was sit there.

“But we’ve got to go,” I thought…I’m your WALKER, after all! Nope. Whatever was going on for her she knew what she needed in that moment…just a few minutes in the sun, collecting her thoughts and energy. So we all sat, they were so happy, lots of kisses and ear rubs.

As hoomans we’re always pushing through, muscling up, making things happen. Dogs are like, “I need a patch of sun, don’t feel like moving, and I’m going to take care of that, thank you very much.”

Then we had the best, clear-headed and beautiful walk. All of us.

Life’s lessons learned from man’s best friend.

It’s that TIME! Losing an hour of daylight tonight so a good time to remember a great idea for nighttime walking: get a light-up leash or collar to make sure your pup is secure AND easily seen in the dark! Lots to choose from online and at your favorite store 💡 🐾

OK, full disclose…those of you who know us know this is my sister’s sweet pup. She has been such a huge part of all our lives for going on 15 years…goofy, sweet, and tons o’ personality. Seriously, she smiles! And makes us do the same ❤️❤️❤️🐾

Little things can mean a lot when it comes to a dog’s security and confidence. One simple and gentle training tip is to never let the dog go through a door a gate before you. It easily and gently establishes that you’re the leader of the pack, and starts every walk on the right foot 🐾
