💌To our Border Paws family💌
This update is long overdue! We’ve gone back and forth for months because Border Paws means so much to us, and stepping back in any way has been an incredibly difficult decision.
After a lot of reflection, we’ve made the difficult decision to step back from operating as a full scale rescue with a facility, we realized we were running on empty. Burnout hit us hard, and we realized we couldn’t give the dogs the level of care they truly deserve while trying to manage everything. Even with our amazing volunteers, it just wasn’t maintainable.
✨ What’s changing:
• We are now foster based only, no more physical facility.
• We can still board dogs when needed, but the number of transports will be much smaller.
• This means we need committed fosters! The more fosters we have, the more dogs we can save.
• Volunteer opportunities will be limited, but we’ll still need help with fostering and the occasional events.
• We’ll still hold events - including 2 coming up in October, so stay tuned!
✨ Where our focus will be:
We want to return to the heart of why we started, saving street dogs, puppies, and medical/special-needs dogs. Somewhere along the way, it began to feel like we were running a shelter instead of following our original mission, and we don’t want to lose sight of what inspired us in the first place.
✨ To our transport partners:
Please know that while we’re still committed to saving dogs, we’ll only be able to take 3–5 dogs at a time. We’ll do our best to work with everyone, but our capacity is much much smaller now.
We’re still working on finalizing adoptions for the last few dogs in our care, and once they’re adopted, we’ll fully transition into this next chapter and save some more lives! This change is bittersweet, and while we’re heartbroken to take a step back, we know it’s what’s best for us and for the dogs❤️🩹
Thank you to everyone who has supported us including fosters, volunteers, adopters, and donors. We couldn’t have made it this far without you, and we’re excited to continue saving lives, just in a way that’s more sustainable for the long term.
