Think globally, act locally.

I’ll start with a heartfelt apology to our teachers and school staff. I’m sorry we haven’t valued you more. I’m thankful every day for our public schools and truly appreciate everything you do. I’m sorry we haven’t taken better care of you.

My children NEED public schools. Our community NEEDS public schools! We were lucky on Thursday that nothing happened. But Thursday left permanent scars on students, teachers and parents. We must act now, we cannot wait another minute, hour, or day. Next time we might not be so lucky. And without changes, there WILL be a next time.

Our children need to feel valued, loved and part of the community. Every budget cut, overcrowded classroom, lack of supplies and teachers, continuously shows our children (and teachers) that we don’t value them. For some kids, school is their safe place and now that’s been taken from them. We continually take and take from the schools but expect our teachers to simply figure it out, make it work and keep teaching. Our children see and feel this. Our children are reaching out for help but we as a community aren’t listening—or doing anything to fix it.

I woke up Friday morning wanting to change the world. But I was thinking too big.
My mom told me to start with myself. I did, and I saw my lack of involvement. I’m not volunteering, I’m not checking in with my kids’ teachers, I’m not seeing what needs the schools have. I get my kids to school every day and just expect the school system to deal with everything that happens. Well, this stops today! I can’t change the world, but I CAN make an impact on my community.

Here are two things I’ll be doing as a solution to this issue:
1. I will personally become more involved in the schools. I’ll join the PTA, I’ll reach out to my children’s teachers to see what help they need and I’ll help when and where I can.
2. As a business owner, I’ll give my staff options so they can become involved with the public schools - volunteer hours WITH pay. And I’ll add a line item to our budget for local schools.

Thursday, my business lost hours of productivity as another parent and I frantically tried to check in on our kids and stay up to date with the events that were playing out. How much better would it have been if those hours were used for the schools, for something fun and positive?
I challenge every local business in our community, large or small, to personally give back to our public schools. This could be in the form of paid volunteer hours for staff or a monetary contribution – large or small. Every little bit would help right now.

Without healthy schools, we don’t have a healthy community, and an unhealthy community impacts every one of us. – we have to do better!

We might think globally, but our actions must start locally. Small changes have big impacts. Let’s start acting on this issue today.

We need your help!!!! He is currently at our kennel but needs a new home asap.
This is Hank, he is a 10 month old Shepard mix! He is fixed and up to date on all his shots. He was rescued from an abusive home. He is looking for his new forever home. Hank needs an experienced owner who can give him the patients and love he needs. He does have food and water aggression. I believe he will do best in a one or two person home with no small dogs. More adorable March 🎓 graduates 🎓. Norman, Hazel, Lola, Lake and Cerberus. These pups did amazing and loved playing before and after class (sometimes even playing durning class ❤️). Congratulations pups! You were a very fun class!

Look 👀 at these adorable graduates!!! These are from March and had to share. Mandy, Odin, Auggie, Pepper, Koji, Bingo and Bacon were all so sweet and did amazing. They were all pretty young and handled the new commands like champs!

Chuck is home! After spending almost a year in foster care this sweet dog traveled to Kansas to his new home! Happy Adoption Day Chuck … you have came so far and we can’t wait for updates on all your adventures in your next chapter !

Congratulations Advanced class March 2024! You may recognize a couple of these pups from preschool and/or basic classes and they are still growing and learning so much! Way to go Grady, Thistle, Marlon, Maybach and Maisy. You were such a fun group of dogs and humans! See you in the next classes.
