Here at Rich's Retrievers, I treat your dog with the same love and care that I treat my own Labrador's with. I believe that a huge part of having a great hunting retriever is to have one that loves you and wants to please you. I am an avid duck hunter, so I know the many factors that a dog faces in a hunting situation. I know how to teach dogs how to strive in these situations and be the best retr

iever that they can possibly be. I also like to stay in touch and have one on one conversations with the owner throughout training to help me better understand just exactly what their dog is going to have to face in the duck blind. I am also experienced in the hunt testing game, and will be running many dogs for their titles in the fall. Anything that you need for your hunting dog to do, there's a good possibility that I can teach it.

Off to a great start this hunt test season. So far we have passed 24 out of 26 tests and have obtained 4 new titles. Looking forward to moving up to finished with several of these dogs later this spring. Congratulations to all of the owners!

Started off the hunt test season right and got to put the new dog trailer to work. We’re just getting started for the year. Next up we have Amite River HRC on the weekend of March 16th. Looking forward to seeing what all we can get accomplished this year with this fine crew of dogs.

Got 2 more yellow dogs in this weekend! on the left is Scout. He is a 5 month old puppy with high retrieving drive and energy. He should turn into a great duck dog. On the right is Stella. Stella was here last year and was trained up to the seasoned level and picked up a good many birds last year for her owners. We are going to further advance her handling while she is here and polish up on a few things.

Added a couple of spotted dogs to the pack this weekend. They are littermates, and both of their parents were excellent quail hunting dogs. Super excited to see what all we can teach them. Welcome Chief and ROOSTER!

Added a Golden to the crew today. Welcome “Gumbo”. Gumbo is here for obedience school/ started duck dog. His dad wants him to be a duck dog and his mom said that’s okay as long as he can stay inside and be a pet too. I told her I’ve seen many of them, including my own personal dogs, make duck dogs and be pets at the same time.

Want to welcome in ”Bella” our newest duck dog in training. So far she has been a little fireball with a great little personality, hence the smile for the camera. She already loves fetching and loves the water so I am looking forward to seeing what we can make of her!

Spots are filling up quick for the duck dog kennel so contact me today if you would like to bring your dog for training or would like to get down on the books for later in the year.

Added a new chocolate dog to the crew this morning. Meet “Baxter”. Baxter will be here until hunting season comes back around. We have big plans for this guy.

Special congrats to Curt Ganey and now HRCH Five Star Midnight Breeze “Bree” on getting their Hunting Retriever Champion title. They sure don’t just give that title out. Takes a special dog like Bree to get it. I’m thankful to have had a small part in the building process of this fine retriever.

This is the crew so far for the 2023 training season! Wanted to let everyone know we are back full swing. With duck season being over it is never too soon to start preparing for next season, and that includes having your duck dog ready! Preparing the dogs for North Louisiana HRC’s hunt test with this finished blind. This was a tough one but the dogs handled it very well.

7 month old "Drake" owned by Aaron Heflin starting to pick up some long marks!

Looks like Hunter McLain is doing a fine job of working the dogs while I'm gone. He sent me this video of Heflin's Drake "Drake" owned by Aaron Heflin. Drake finished force fetch recently and is now learning hand signals and being steadied on marks. Looks like he is steady as a rock on that big splash right in his face. Going to be a fine pup that will also be on the hunt test trailer in the fall! Great job Hunter!!
