What a fun time at the Arabian US Nationals! Congratulations on Top Ten winners Kathy Bunn and CSP Take Me Backstage in the HA Hunter Pleasure AOTR as well as EF Hallelujah Baska and Mike Top Ten in the PB Pleasure Driving for Doug Schultz and Ted Webber (Ted also had a good ride with “Holly” in the AOTR English Pleasure). Renee Smith and Nite Trane CA had a good ride in their Country Pleasure class and Heidi Ness with SW Fazt Times made it to the semi-finals in the PB Country Pleaure Select with great rides and was just out of the Top Ten. Not bad for it being the first National show for both Heidi and “Fin”!

We’re all home safe and sound-and ready to get back to work. Cheers to a great show season!!

These fillies grew up together outside and came in this spring for training. Both have developed into really fun and game 3 year olds. When the weather is nice I try to get them out together for a little kiki. They run around for a few minutes then stand and groom each other. Two girls building each other up for greatness!

What a week at the Region XI Championship show-it’s like the CHEERS Bar in horse show form. Great people, great horses and great competition. As always a gigantic THANK YOU to my clients who trust me with the care and training of their horses and and extra THANKS Trista Ruckman for your hard work!

While we’re preparing for the Region XI Championship show, I can’t help but think of a favorite Region XI memory. I had been showing Karla Morschhauser’s PSL Jack Daniels in show hack and having a pretty good time (in 2001???). But Regionals were coming up and I knew Terri Platner Sherman’s Simply Safire had a good chance of winning as well. So I asked my friend and Show Hack Goddess Juli Goder Larson if she could catch ride for me and, lo and behold, we end up Reserve and Champion! Cheers to making great memories. See you in Springfield!

I’m looking back at horse show photos and had to pause at this one. AP Danger Zone was by a Supreme Sultan son, Times Roman and out of a Perkal daughter, purchased by Donna Zick and Terri Platner Sherman. He was big, beautiful and had a presence about him. So much of a presence that he could part the sea in a warm up arena. Horses just knew. And he loved to do a sitting, marching trot as a warm up.

He won the HA English Pleasure Junior Horse at Region 10 with John White. A few years later after a bit of r&r, I won a pretty competitive class with him at Region 10 in the HA English Pleasure Open. What I remember most is Jessica Cole watching through that space in the Milwaukee arena between the organ booth and the Region 10 sign. During a thrown shoe time out, she said to me something to the effect “If I were you, I’d march that horse right up and down that arena so the judges can see him.” And I did and I won.

Like most horse trainers, I can honestly say if I’d known then what I know now things could have turned out different. But we did ok with what we had. And, boy, what a good time we had! Mike Grimm
