CHUKAR DOG DELUXE—“Kobe” is the GrandSon Pup of my Covenant’s Radbach Joshua von Greif. 45lbs of Hell on Wheels and Tufffff!!! Owned by my Chukar Hunting Buddy, they hunted almost 6 hours this 2nd day/4 of the hunt and he was 5/40~ shooting, while Kobe logged in 51.29 miles that day. Kobe is Three years old now and we’re excited to finally be able to use him as our Stud Dog🐾🐾🐾🐾

On Thursday my Bend High buddy Marc’s GSP pointed at the base of a Rimrock. He took this photo and then stepped up to shoot some Chukars. Instead a huge Cougar jumped out 5’ from the dog and scaled the 20’ cliff!!! Directly below the computer hand you can make out the Big Cat’s face!?

FACT: Longer Barrels produce faster fps(velocity)especially with slower burning powders in Shotshells. Wild Birds are tough and we need every little advantage to efficiently harvest them. Note: I only hunt Wild Chukars so my strategies may not apply to Grouse, Quail, etc.

"Start Fast, Stop Fast" my shooting mentor once discussed with me regarding shorter/lighter barreled shotguns. He also told me, "The Hand is Quicker than the Eye"! I mount the gun plenty quickly when I take the time to actually "See the Bird", first. Plus, I prefer a long single sight plane in our wide open terrain, too.

ALL Animals deserve our Best whether Rifle, Bow or Shotgun!

WOUNDING vs KILLING: My Quality Extended Chokes(Left))Mueller Decoy Choke at LM/IC with #6 High Antimony Lead Shot(1 1/8) for early season when there are mostly young birds and Coveys hold well. 2) Briley LM Choke shooting #5 High Antimony(1 1/8) for Later Season as Coveys get jumpy. Also, they help prevent UNINTENDED Wounded Birds with better patterns. I personally like a Longer Sight Plane for Chukars shooting a 28" barrel with Extended Chokes. "The Hands are Quicker than the Eye!" We'll soon discuss slower burning Powders with Longer Barrels to increase fps & reduce psi for pattern soon.

WOUNDING vs KILLING: The Dreaded "Going Away" shot.
We'd all like to avoid these shots but they are inevitable regardless of how we approach our Dogs On Point. PE*******ON from a Lethal Load is the only viable way to access Core Vitals. Chukars have been clocked to reach 40-60mph quickly depending on escapement. Shooting Trap Club like Shotshells with lighter loads to gain pattern you should keep your shots under 25 yds. Personally I shoot faster, heavier loads that Pe*****te with extended tighter chokes to reduce Wounded Birds—intended and unintended! The Birds & Our Dogs deserve better.
