For those who over the years have asked me about my breathhold training and what I would do to increase it- while not the same as Ted Harty Immersion Freediving, it’s the same principles, a d the same reasoning: the watch is not what’s important, it’s being comfortable and extending your comfort zone, and saving energy while performing any given task, and realizing that your brain burns more energy than your arms and legs……

You’ve dove against the reat; time to take the test, a d try against the BEST!
The Los Angeles Fathomiers Scrambles meet is next Saturday. A no holds barred, give it your best shot challenge for the toughest spearing tournament of the summer! No boundaries, 3 fish (one per species) , no max weight limits….. just be back to the weigh in by 3pm at Palos Verdes park.
There is a great raffle, with all manner of suits, guns, floats, gear galore.
AND, we have added cash prizes for the winners this year:
1st place: $1000
2nd place: $500
3rd place: $200

Finally got a minute of rest- can post up about last weekend, a pair of great runs on the boat.
Friday night, boat prep and top off the fuel. Found a pair of Arco stations that have regular at $3.99 . Helpful when you are topping off two 92 gallon tanks! 😳
Saturday was forecast for afternoon wind, so I took my wife Hannah Bae, and Dave Galich to the west wnd of SCI. Started with rockfish, and we smoked ‘em. Then, Hannah comes up with a squid she snagged and said “What are we gonna do with it?” I jumped at the opportunity, pinned the hook back through, and told her ‘Send it right back where it came from!!!’ It only took maybe ten seconds before her rod wicked over, a good fish had piled on, and a few seconds after the double-shaking told us she had a pair on. And up came the shallowest Cowcod I have seen; we were on a dome in 276ft of water. (Dear DFW….. they are well recovered, open them back up.) once I got the drift right, we were limited out on reds….(2is a joke) and plenty of widows, bank perch and boccacio, so we went inside to dive. I manned the boat, while Dave and Hannah looked for fish. WSB and YT were seen, but not cooperative. Then the wind started ripping, so we split; easy ride home.
The next morning, I was joined by Mike Raabe, Richard Balta, and Dave Ploessel for their first trips on the boat; I knew with a hard hitting crew we were going to find the fish, and make it happen.
At 8:30, we hit the water. And in 20 minutes, I put a decent YT in the boat. Then Dave, then Mike and d Rich, and we made steady contact with the fish, and kept putting fish in the boat. Eventually, Dave and I were able to find some WSB who wanted to die, and Richard came back to the boat after having a run in with a ‘pretty frickin’ big’ great white. 😳 We took this as our cue to go take some pics and head for the barn. A great batch of fish- 8yt, 2wsb, a whitefish and a barracuda for me and Dave (weirdos shooting weirdos!) 😜
We wrapped it up with a great sunset, and just reveled in how lucky and blessed we are to get days like this…… hope they last forever.
