Training Update for Charlie!
Charlie and I have started working on his resource guarding through some very structured games of tug. The goal is to show him that it’s way more fun to engage and play together than to keep the toy to himself.

We’re also shifting the ownership of the toy to me, and he’s learning that he gets to earn the game through cooperation and good choices. He did a great job today—go Charlie!

Training Update for Dexter!
Dexter, our smart and spirited visually impaired pit bull, had an important session today!

We focused mainly on off-leash manners and helping him respect his handlers—especially the ones he’s been trying to push around a bit. Dexter’s clever and definitely knows what he can get away with, but today he showed that with clear boundaries and consistency, he’s ready to rise to the challenge.

Proud of his progress and looking forward to more growth!

Training Update for Griffin!
Griffin made big strides today! His handler was able to regulate him without any help from me or even touching the leash—a huge win for their teamwork and trust.

Over the next week, they'll be focusing more on leash work, using this new skill as a foundation to help broaden Griffin’s world and build even more confidence. So proud of this pair!

Weekly Update from the Hornell Humane Society!
We had some amazing training sessions today—stay tuned for videos coming soon!

This week, we focused on:

Resource Guarding

Leash Manners

Confidence Building

Impulse Control

These pups are making great progress, and we’re so proud of them! Love working with these dogs and watching them grow every week.

Griffin, our reactive Collie at the Hornell Humane Society, is really starting to come into his own. During this session, my husband was filming behind the camera—something that would’ve triggered a reactive response from Griffin just a few weeks ago.

This time, you’ll see him glance back, acknowledge the presence, and choose not to react. That small moment speaks volumes. It shows that the training is working, and most importantly, that Griffin is beginning to feel safer and more confident under calm, consistent leadership.

He still has work to do, but this kind of progress is what it’s all about. Griffin is learning that he doesn’t have to be on high alert—that he can trust, follow, and feel secure.

Meet Dogmeat, the insecure German Shepherd who’s been running the household!

Today’s session was all about shifting the energy—helping Dogmeat’s humans step into a calm, confident leadership role so she doesn’t feel the need to take things into her own paws.

We focused on leash sits and leash manners, tuning into her reactivity to really understand where it's coming from. With the right guidance and grounded energy, Dogmeat started to settle in and follow her humans’ lead beautifully.

She’s a work in progress, but today was a huge step toward a more balanced, connected life together!

Basil – Training Update
This week at the Hornell Humane Society, we’re continuing Basil’s work on impulse control, leash manners, and reducing jumping behavior.

Basil is a bright, eager girl with a lot of enthusiasm—she just needs a bit of structure and consistency to help her channel that energy in the right direction. We’ve been focusing on helping her pause and think before reacting, especially in exciting situations.

Leash work is coming along steadily, and we’re reinforcing calm walking with minimal pulling. The jumping is improving as well; with every session, Basil is learning that patience and polite greetings get her the attention she’s looking for.

She’s making great progress and continues to show a willingness to learn. With continued guidance and the right environment, Basil is going to make a fantastic companion.

Charlie – Training Update
Charlie continues to be one of my favorite dogs at the Hornell Humane Society. He’s full of personality, charm, and so much potential—it’s been a joy to work with him.

Right now, we’re focusing on improving leash manners, shifting his mindset, and addressing his jumping and demanding behaviors. Charlie is a smart, energetic dog who sometimes gets stuck in excitement mode, but with each session, he’s learning to slow down, think, and respond rather than react.

We’re working on helping him understand that calm behavior gets him what he wants, and he’s starting to catch on. With consistency and a little patience, Charlie is going to thrive in a home that gives him both structure and love.

Dexter, the sweet and visually impaired pit bull at the Hornell Humane Society, is making quiet but meaningful progress.

During our most recent session, I spent time simply giving him affection and touching his face—something I later learned he hasn’t allowed from anyone else. The fact that he allowed me to do so speaks volumes about the trust we’re building. I made sure to take full advantage of that moment and offer as much love as he would accept.

I have a feeling Dexter has experienced some harsh handling in the past. When he feels too much pressure on the leash, he goes into a stress response, so we’re taking things very slowly and gently. His vision impairment also means we have to be especially careful with our movements and communication.

When we first began working together, Dexter would nip at my legs and swipe at anything that entered his limited field of vision—likely out of fear and confusion. Now, with a slow, consistent, and respectful approach, he was able to walk with low frustration and no nipping. That’s a big win for this sensitive boy.

He has a long road ahead, but Dexter is showing us that with patience and compassion, he’s willing to trust again.

Scout – Training Update
Yesterday marked my second day working with Scout, a nervous and reactive Doberman at the Hornell Humane Society. This time, I was able to safely take the leash and really start building a connection with him.

By stepping in as a calm, confident leader right away, Scout was able to settle and begin to fall into his role at my side. That shift made a big difference—it helped him feel more secure and gave him the structure he needs to relax and trust.

Scout is a sensitive, intelligent dog who just needs clear direction and steady leadership. It’s early in the process, but we’re already making strides, and I’m proud of the progress he’s shown in such a short time.

Faline’s First Step Toward Freedom and Safety
Today was a big day for Faline as she began her training with the invisible fence system. Learning to respect invisible boundaries takes time, consistency, and trust, and Faline handled her first session with a calm and focused attitude.

This is an important step in helping her enjoy her yard safely and confidently while still giving her the freedom to explore within safe limits. With continued guidance and support, she’s on the right path to understanding the boundaries and gaining independence.

We’re proud of her progress and look forward to seeing how she continues to grow.

Weekly Training Update – Hornell Humane Society
It’s been a full and rewarding week working with the amazing dogs at the Hornell Humane Society!

Big news—Wrangler has been adopted! It’s always such a joy to see these dogs find their forever homes.

This week, I was also able to get the leash on Scout, our nervous and reactive Doberman, and start building a real connection with him. Cronk, the beautiful Anatolian Shepherd, completely won me over with his strength and sensitivity. Dexter, our visually impaired pit bull, showed real growth as he began to trust and walk with less frustration.

Basil, the silly ball of energy, is coming along with impulse control and leash manners, and Charlie—one of my absolute favorites—continues to show heart and progress every time we work together.

These dogs have so much potential. With the right leadership and patience, they’re all becoming the best versions of themselves. Stay tuned for more updates, and as always—if you’re thinking of adopting, supporting, or just following their journeys, your encouragement makes a difference!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to work with Cronk for the first time at the Hornell Humane Society. He’s a strikingly beautiful Anatolian Shepherd with a strong presence and a confident personality.

When he first came out, Cronk displayed some reactivity toward me—nothing unexpected for a dog in a shelter environment who hasn’t had consistent leadership. Once I took the leash and approached him with calm confidence, he responded quickly. The reactivity melted away, and a much softer, more trusting dog began to emerge.

Cronk is the kind of dog who needs structure, clarity, and a steady hand. He’s not for the faint of heart—but with the right leadership, he’ll be a loyal, loving companion.

He made incredible progress in just one session, and I’m looking forward to continuing our work together. He truly is a special dog who deserves a chance with someone who understands his needs.
